Best in the world when? 2010 olympics, he was piggy backing on other players' success.

So true. So painfully true.

Can't always blame him. They were basically playing with 3.5 dmen this game. Not so great dmen all the other ones. Put some decent players in front of him and he'll rip it up. Take the Olympics for example.

I didn't think I would say this at the beginning of the year but..

THEY BETTER RE-SIGN KYLE WELLWOOD!!

What a perfect hockey world you tools live in.

Don't worry man, most of them are looking at just the score alone and not even looking at how the goals were scored. Yeah, a few of the goals were weak today but you don't see them mentioning the huge saves in the first that kept it 0-0 into the break.

Luongo has 0.895 in playoffs, facing the 4th most shots in the league with a completely crippled defense corps. Don't even bother comparing to Halak; he's posting incredible numbers that far well surpass even Roy back in his prime. Definitely an outlier.

If you look at the stats, it's clear that Luongo isn't as bad as people say he is. But it's easy to run down the street and yell out that he's overrated, especially without any specific evidence.

MG1 05-11-2010 08:50 PM

In a way, we are fortunate to have been eliminated in this round. We were limping as it was. We would have been annihilated in the next round. We don't have a tough team. Tough as in durable and big.

Did we even make a dent in Chicago's armour? SJS are like, "Fuck you, Canucks. Why couldn't you soften them up for us?"

maybe.

but there are some goals that he let in that has to be stopped. The Kanes goal tonight for example. That had to be stopped.

He is the last line of defense and even if the dmen is playing shitty, he still need to make saves...that's why he's being paid the big bucks. With the big bucks that's being paid, i would expect him to 'steal' more games for us than he did.

I've always agreed with that, but what can you do? It's not his fault. Hard to live up to god like status. Just today, the Blackhawk players were saying he is the best in the world. How can you be the best in the world? Best in the world when?

I really wanted Andrew Raycroft to make an appearance. Just one game. To see what would happen. I guess even after the fifth goal, they had to avoid that at all costs.

Luongo = yo yo (up and down, up and down).

I'm not saying he's shitty. Just be realistic and don't put all your eggs in one basket or depend on him to save your ass. He's not that great, so play harder in front of him.

I know I am just trolling a bit ;) But I thought they should have pulled Lu in game 3, and let Ray get the start in game 4. Who knows, maybe he would have had hot run to the finals like we have seen so many times in the past. Maybe not...

But they pretty much HAVE to let Luongo play every game, or he'll fall apart. Plus he's the captain for some stupid reason.

I agree. He's worth the money. Besides, who else can the coaching staff bully so easily?

RTS 05-11-2010 08:51 PM

Team 1040 panel: Luongo should NOT be captain. NO SHIT.

Anyway, as I said in January, we were not going to make it past the 2nd round with this group of D and depending on Luongo (who always chokes in the playoffs) so much.

I went to about 8 games this year. Less than usual since I didn't live in Canada most of the year. I was really impressed with O'Brien and Samuelsson. Not impressed with Demitra, Luongo (most overrated player in the NHL) or Bieksa.

I also don't think the Sedins are built to be playoff warriors. I seriously doubt we'll be Stanley Cup Winners with them and Luongo as the core. We shall see...

sLiCkRiCk 05-11-2010 08:52 PM

LOL A Chicago fan wished us a Happy Game 6 Anniversary on TEAM 1040

BASTARD!!!

Oh okay. So which goalie should we have in net (that will take us to the cup)?
I'll let you take your time to think of a specific name.
Or are you just whining like everyone else?

Harvey Specter 05-11-2010 08:55 PM

I think the Sharks will take the Hawks in 5.

For fuck's sake. Nobody is saying he sucks. He's just over rated and the team relies on him too much. Get it?

I saw the same game as you, buddy. He just lost it and came unravelled, again. He's too emotional. He loses it. When he lets a couple in, it turns into multiple goals in the time it takes to........ at loss for words.

We need him, of course. We also need to be more down to earth and take some heat off of him. I really don't think he's a playoff type goalie.

invader 05-11-2010 08:59 PM

Well, I want to Hawks to win the Cup now.

In a way, that makes sense. We lost ot a team that went on to win the cup. It hurts a lot less. Hats off to Joel Quenneville. He's a pretty good coach.

BLUETIGER 05-11-2010 09:07 PM

Luongo: so how do u do it?
Halak: wut?
Luongo: u know, win game 6 and carry ur team to game 7.. twice
Halak: lol noob

MG1 05-11-2010 09:10 PM

Well, I tried. I contributed as much as I could to the "reach 1000 pages" movement. LOL.

See you guys next season.

Huh? Posting incredible numbers that surpass even Roy in his prime? What the hell have you been smoking? I'll use the years he won the Stanley Cup as "his prime"

85-86 GAA: 1.93
92-93 GAA: 2.13 SV%: .929
95-96 GAA: 2.10 SV%: .921
00-01 GAA: 1.70 SV%: .934

Halak so far has a GAA:2.45 and a SV%: .932 . Not exactly far surpassing eh? And when you talk about the stats and Luongo not looking bad... Are you talking playoffs or regular season, because before tonight's game, has was 13th in both GAA and SV% for playoffs...

Ch28 05-11-2010 09:16 PM

Luongo during post game:

"Unlike last year, I battled for 60 minutes and kept it under seven goals."

Yeah...very reassuring statement there Lu.
