We have the whole entire team to blame, no single scapegoat here. Samuelson Sedins Burrows KESLER bernier demitra RAYMOND were all underachieving
The only people IMO that did well was Erhoff wellwood.

Grandmaster TSE 05-12-2010 11:52 AM

agree, the whole team is to blame, not just one individual

heres to next year!!!

I like how you say the whole team is to blame yet you all caps 2 players from that list.

We come in every year with no major change in the team, and we are expected to win a cup?!
we cant even beat chicago for the second stragiht year and they cant even win the cup. What makes people believe we have what it takes?

Major changes this off season guranteed

You have to admit, we're a much better team this year than the last. However, the young core of the Blackhawks, with the addition of Marian Hossa, are also more skilled and experienced this year as well. Remember, a lot of analysts are calling Chicago to win the cup this year.

I assure you, there might be 2-3 major acquisition in the off-season, that's about it. To me, our top 6 forwards are Sedins/Burrows/Kesler/Raymond/Samuellsson, and they are not going anywhere. Based on the way Ehrhoff/Edler/Salo/Edler played this season they aren't going anywhere either. There won't be major changes, guaranteed.

Well the g/f just told me a funny joke she heard today.

What do the canucks and titantic have in common?

They both look really good until they hit the ice :D

The right personnel are here, but as the series wore on, it's clear that the adjustments weren't made. AV was signed to a four-year extension this year, but he was out-coached again. Gillis will have to check his own ego and make some tough decisions over the summer.

I agree. I'm sure it was a tough decision for the Penguins to fire the coach a season after a SCF showing only to win the SC the next season with another coach.

But hey, Crosby is elite; Luongo is not. :)

Agreed. There's no point in blowing up the whole team and starting fresh. It'll put the team in a worse off position. Do you really want to follow the steps of the Maple Leafs? We've seen what that has done to the organization.

The Canucks have a decent core as we've seen in the regular season. The only real work they'll need to do is get more depth on the blue line. It's unfortunate that the Canucks burned their bridges with Schneider (the D man, not the goalie) at the time they did because I think having him around would have helped immensely)

Their effort would be better spent on trying to develop some team chemistry and perhaps having a specialist work with them on the psychological side of the game since we all know that their demise isn't from the lack of skill.

In either case, Luongo is going to have to step it up. Like it or not, he's a huge catalyst for the team and they lean on him a lot - not just to stop goals but as a motivation-wise as well. Hopefully he's not one of these "I got my fat contract so I'm just going to cruise on through until my next contract renewal year" type of players.

He's not only good at blocking shots, he's the BEST.

And isn't faceoffs and blocking shots the #1 thing you want on a PK? And knowing how important it is to have a good PK (as we saw during the playoffs), wouldn't you want him on your He's playing 4th line minutes anyway so what more do you want from the 4th line when playing 5on5?

Johnson is a must resign in my books.

Now imagine if we get Volchenkov on the team....ULTIMATE PK SHOT BLOCKING!!!!!!!

fobulaus 05-12-2010 02:14 PM

Man, I'd love to see Volchenkov with a Canucks jersey.. but I think hes asking for at least 5 mil per season, otherwise the Sens would of extended his contract already.

trancehead 05-12-2010 02:21 PM

Well im looking forward to next season already. We do have a decent core like syee said.
A Selke worthy forward in Kesler
Art Ross winner Henrik and maybe even Daniel if he wasnt injured

Along with Schroeder, Hodgson coming up (maybe shirokov?) we should expect even more depth scoring.

I hope MG can bolster our D and get a TRUE #1 defenseman...such as the Dan Boyles, Doughtys, Keiths, Webers out there. Or hopefully Edler can step up into that role like everyone projected he would become the "next lidstrom". I really believe that is what is stopping us from becoming an elite team. Imagine if we got Chris Pronger instead of Philly at draft day last year.

Luongo isnt really to blame. Not 100% at least. You guys are leaving him out to dry just like our defensemen in game 6.

But one thing about Lu is that he SHOULD NOT BE captain. SJ Sharks stripped Marleau of it this year and hes having a career season. Lu should be man enough to handle it. I wouldnt want him to be Captain for the next 11 years either or whatever his contract stipulates with the emergence of Kesler and possibly Hodgson(who we all pray to god plays like he did for Team Canada)

i dont think the team can "make" Luongo give up the C, Luongo has to surrender on his behalf ?

Gh0stRider 05-12-2010 02:38 PM

It can be taken away from him. Like when they took it away from Marleau and gave it to Blake.

Edit:

I really wonder where all those smug posters from Game 5 are now who were spamming their "I told you so's" all over. It's funny how 1 good game can instantenously blind someone about the immediate previous 3 games into thinking everything is all good.

Can't believe what I'm reading on this board.

Do we not watch the same games? The guy made flinging his body at a slapshot an art.

He often leads or is in the top 5 in the league in shot blocking.

This year he had crap load of injuries so he wasn't able to do as much.

He's a 4th liner getting paid peanuts.

Who would you want to replace him with? Another "tough guy" like Hordichuk?

I know this is REALLY ill-timed as we just embarassingly got blown out of the playoffs but it's his style of play that wins big games.

How many players did you see lay down to block a shot in the playoffs other than him? None. All you see is Kesler half-crouching down in front of the shot and all we did was see the shots get thru to the net and banged in on the rebounds. It happened against LA and it happened against Chicago.

Given what's happened and the fact that he IS a 4th line player (knowing the high turnover rates for 4th line players), he'll prob be gone next year.

yes i have watched him in games. i have watched him blow defensive coverages while in our zone. i have watched him skate around without a clue on the PK. i have watched him "fling himself" at a shooter only to get side stepped.

yes he blocks shots fearlessly, that is to be respected. but the book is out on him that he takes himself out of position by doing so. fake a shot, side step his body, and you've got a clear shot to the net.

Yes!

You know what I like about Hordichuk? His intentional open ice hit on Marty Turco (when Turco was getting cocky on how far out the net he will play the puck). The Canucks lacked that kind of dirtyness against Chicago and Byfuglien went to town on Luongo and destroyed Edler.

Now I understand the guy is no Ovechkin but the purpose of his acquisition was far under-utilized IMO. Or maybe AV didn't know how to properly utilize that asset to his benefit. Who knows how the Hawks would approach the Canucks if we had someone that could return the favor tit-for-tat on the Hawks key players.
