I want Daytons but they're pricey, they'll also last though. I'm not really expecting these Steve Maddens to last, but they'll be good for a few years. Next pair is probably going to be some Redwing Beckhams, which seem to be a good middle ground. Do Daytons ever go on sale? I'd love to get some service or parade boots.

I've been told to get my boot oil from RedWing Shoes and to not use any of those BS sprays.

Edit:

Cancelled my order after all that...

Steve Madden website says items will be shipped to Canada with either USPS or Fedex. I called them to ensure the item gets shipped USPS so that I don't have to pay brokerage but they say they have no control over which shipping company they use. So after I factor in exchange rate, sales tax, brokerage and potentially duty I'm at like $175 per shoe... for Steve Maddens.... may as well just look for some Red Wings on sale online

Picked up my Beckmans for 260USD online last fall from shoebuy.com. I'm sure a site like that will have some sort of sale over the next few days. Shipping was no hassle either. No surprises on delivery.

Hondaracer 11-27-2014 12:34 PM

Don't buy Steve madden shit, complete garbage. Both pairs I've had from them were some of the most uncomfortable shoes I've work and they both basically fell apart in under 8 months.

I think it's worth it to spend the extra 80-150 for get somthing that will last

Armind 11-27-2014 12:54 PM

+1 My Steve Madden is starting to tear apart..

Aldo shoes are better quality than Steve Maddens, worst quality shoes you can buy.

AAnthony: that quote from bonka. he has no clue what he's talking about.

here's a photo of my 1k's which i've owned for 2 yrs now. the right one was just cleaned up. i only wear them during the fall/winter. that means i'm walking in water and snow (random fact: i didnt have any waterproof boots for snow shoeing so i actually wore these. looked like a fool but my feet were dry and warm.. lol). they've since fallen out of rotation and now are used 90% of the time to walk my dog at mcdonald beach. that means i'm walking in wet sand, and water.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7335/...1723e286_b.jpg

and what's replaced them are Alden Indys. Also with a leather sole. Which I've worn in the rain, and snow.

Oh and as another "you have no clue what you're talking about bonka": i was wearing my red wing 3141s and got stuck in a snow storm last yr in philly. i had to help push cars stuck in snow. wearing my red wings. sure it has a crepe sole, but rain/water/whatever does not ruin leather.

If you know how to take care of your shit, they'll last forever. save manufacturer defects. LOL.

Hondaracer 11-27-2014 04:11 PM

I'll take a pic of my RW 877's when i get a chance, bought them two novembers ago now

since then i've probably oiled them 15 times? imo they look nicer now than they did when i purchased them, and they get relatively heavy wear during the winter months

As for Red Wing either the Beckman, Iron Ranger, or Blacksmith

The bay has some Frye's on sale right now for $245, Frye's are probably my least favorite of the 3 because they're more distressed and older looking. Shoes | Casual | Arkansas Boots | Hudson's Bay

1000 Mile is probably my favourite as of now http://img.wolverineworldwide.com/is...&fmt=png-alpha

Edit: Brutal, just saw this now, guess that rules out 1000 Mile, and the Iron Rangers this is Raincouver after all

You can get them resoled as well if needed, I have the Beckmans and 1000 miles and prefer the 1000 miles a little more.

Expresso 11-27-2014 07:21 PM

I don't think anyone on rs has experience with re soling yet.

Energy 11-27-2014 08:03 PM

I just pulled the trigger on the Dayton Service Boots in charcoal nubuck as well. I loved the wings + horns and Dayton collab a few years ago but couldn't afford it back then. I hope the boots are as good as everyone says.

Bonka 11-27-2014 08:45 PM

LOL it's a known fact wet (add salt for winter) will deteriorate leather soles quicker especially when most people don't know how or won't maintain them properly. You might maintain them but how many will use shoetrees or dry them completely on their sides?

bcrdukes 11-27-2014 09:18 PM

slowguy and his hipster boots. fucking hipster.

jonwon 11-27-2014 10:13 PM

I agree with you 100% that maintenance is key :hotbaby:.. BUT.. just to clarify.. concerning the soles itself though, you dont have to worry about it from my experience.

i treated the 1k's soles ONCE with montana pitch blench when i was still trying to figure out a maintenance routine for them.. but the soles themselves dont need much in terms of care vs the uppers!

really? dang.. i regret not getting the beckmans!

bcrdukes 11-28-2014 08:25 AM

The best way to prevent your hipster boots from deteriorating is to not wear them. All you stupid hipsters think you know everything. The secret is to immortalize them by snapping Instagram pix duh
