Heads up for you and anyone else interested. Dayton boots newsletter just sent me a promo for the holidays, buy any gift card and get 25% off

So I've already paid the $265 deposit but now I'm gonna buy their $250 GC to pay off the balance and I get it for $200 so save $50

If anyone hasn't purchased them yet and wants to you could buy a $500 GC and get $100 off

Oh and if you don't get the newsletter when you go to buy a GC at checkout enter the code "holiday14"

Do you know when the promo is good till?

Hondaracer 11-28-2014 12:11 PM

Doesn't say in the email.

Also I'm trying to see whether or not I can use a GC to pay the remainder on order because it says in the email "not valid for existing orders"

I phoned and he's gonna call me back

Edit* yea so kind of wack, can't use the GC's on any existing orders :/

Expresso 11-28-2014 12:46 PM

Can you Cancel your order. And re order?

Hondaracer 11-28-2014 01:42 PM

I dunno probably not since I've already out the deposit down...

Although they haven't emailed me a confirmation yet.

Hmm..kinda stupid considering I basically lost $100 by not ordering 5 days later than I did.

Might email them directly and lay it out

trollguy 11-28-2014 01:53 PM

soo..... uhhhhh for the W+H/dayton collab.. what happens when you put shoe trees in them.. AND, when you're wearing them, wont they just look .. flat?

haha

adidas Men's AP Pant | adidas Canada

adidas Men's Ultimate Fleece Pants | adidas Canada

Got these 2, 40% off downtown store.

Best sale I've seen today, and it's what I was looking for vs. paying over 2 bills at Lululemon :).

SushiWushiRoll 11-28-2014 07:41 PM

There's a ck underwear sale at the bay for $10 a pair. Got 6 pairs for the regular price of 2 :joy:

Got this bag in size small for $80 tax and shipping in from liveoutthere during their black friday sale. The quality is top notch. It's incredibly durable and some reviews have said it keeps the insides waterproof.

I would've gotten size XS if I knew how big the bag was... Meant to use it as a gym or sports duffel but after seeing it in person, will be using it as a bag for overnight trips.

What boot oil / cream do you use?

I just bought a pair of Brown Wolverine 1000's, and need to put some oil on them. Found a good post on StyleForum that talks about boot care, i'll leave it here. Obenauf seems to be the most popular choice, I'm just not sure if I want to change the colour on these yet, I haven't even worn them out. Venetian Shoe Oil seems to be the best neutral shoe cream but gets a lot of criticism because it has acids which many believe will deteriorate parts of the shoe.

Quote:

Cleaning: Lexol cleaner or kiwi saddle soap. Lots of debate on saddle soap, and less debate seems to be around lexol. Lexol is easy to use since it's a spray.

Conditioning: Boot oil is highly recommended. Varying opinions but general consensus from all the threads is Obenauf's and Filson's boot oil are winners. Both will darken the leather. Lots of debate about Neatsfoot oil and whether it will eventually rot the boot stitching. Seems to be no consensus on the matter, but lots of people swear by it. If you go with Neatsfoot oil, make sure it's "pure" and not a compound. Whatever boot oil you use, 1 coat is minimum, many people do 2 coats. As mentioned, this will darken the leather so if you want to avoid that, then skip any of these products and the waterproofing ones. (Note, it will initially look darker at first, and after a few days, it will lighten up a bit but still be darker than before the oil application).

3 Alternatives To Boot Oil That Seem To Get Mentioned:
Venetian Shoe Cream I've read so many glowing recommendations of this and people universally seem to say that it won't darken your boots.
Lexol Conditioner this gets recommended as well, but from far fewer people. Doesn't mean it's not good, just that it doesn't seem to get as much love on the forums as the other options listed.
Meltonian shoe cream comes in various colors so get the closest one to match you're actual boot color. Added advantage is that the coloring will help clean/fill in scuffs.

Waterproofing: Further protection with intense waterproofing can be had through use of Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP (aka Obenauf's LP) or Sno-seal. Depending who you ask, you'll get different recommendations, but they all converge around these 2. There is debate on whether you need this at all if you aren't exposing your boots to the outdoors a lot (or water/snow). These will also darken the boots.

Brush: Get yourself one or more horsehair brushes. If you're just using it to clean and buff non-colored washes, one brush should be OK. If you're using colors waxes/polishes, get one for each color to avoid any transfer.
According to this http://www.reddit.com/r/goodyearwelt...er_care_guide/ coconut oil is the best for leather care as it doesn't affect the natural finish.

Hondaracer 12-08-2014 04:17 PM

on the 877's all i use is a mini horse hair brush, and the Red Wing boot oil, i'll post pics of the oil and the boots later tonight

According to this Introductory Leather Care Guide : goodyearwelt coconut oil is the best for leather care as it doesn't affect the natural finish.

I have the wolverine 1000's in brown as well and have used Montana Pitch Blend. It has worked great for my boots, would def recommend.
