^ Most of the oil/coating products will darken the leather. It's all up to your preference and what condition you wear it in.... Some people beat the shit outta their CDB's without any oil/coating and it has a different type of look that I really like. Lent my buddy my Montana Pitch Blend for his Beeswax CDB's and he liked the darkened look. I think this worn pair looks pretty nice http://www.ajchen.com/wp-content/upl...larksbdb_1.jpg Treated with obenauf which darkens the leather (not mine) http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/4...10img08081.jpg |
wow, that untreated pair looks horrible... for me, i condition all my leather shoes.. here are my 1k's, left untreated; right treated. keep 'em conditioned and you'll never have to worry about them.. but i suppose at the price point of the CDB, it doesnt really matter.. ? i've been using MPB since day 1 and it has substantially darkened it.. i have a photo somewhere of my friends brown 1k's compared to mine which i'll have to post. his almost looks like the rust colour in comparison. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7335/...681723e286.jpg |
I second that as well. Especially the welt area to provide some protection against rain. Although that crepe sole is a whole other issue with moisture. Using obenauf's at the moment, will darken leather. |
not a big a fan of the super dark obenauf db maybe ill throw on mink oil every now and then and depending on how things go if I wear it in the rain i'll maybe condition it with more hardcore stuff on another note, anybody have linen uniqlo shirts? how does it compare to jcrew ones, more boxy? they're much cheaper that's for sure |
Anyone know if a shoe cream/conditioner that will not darken leather boots? I use mink oil on my beeswax DB and it darkens it a bit which is okay However, with my Wolverine 1k's in brown, I want to be sure it wont get any darker than the stock color I heard Venetian shoe cream is the stuff to go for but I can't find anywhere to purchase it from that wont charge $50 after shipping from the states.. any pointers? |

how often are you planning on wearing them and under what kind of conditions? |

I only have about a weeks worth of wear on my 1k's since i just picked them up so I'm guessing I wont be needing any treatment anytime soon. Just been looking around for future reference but I will try a bit of mink oil when the time comes and see how that goes I'm going try to wear mine as often as i can on non rainy days through spring and fall. Definitely not in the winter as the weather conditions are harsh here in Calgary. Actually thinking about picking up a pair of red wing iron rangers for the winter since it's got a rubber sole, i would imagine it would offer more grip. Anyone have experiences with those in snow? EDIT: btw where'd you get your shoe tree and how much |
A light coat won't really darken it so don't sweat it! :) You actually could wear the 1k's in winter, but you're spot on about the lack of grip.. lol! Oh yeah, even with the Iron Rangers, I'd still wipe them off after as the salt will dry out the leather. Those particular shoe trees were from Nordstrom Rack. Not really great quality (the spring tension isnt the same for both), cost me $20. I'd suggest buying shoe trees from Jos. A Bank when they have their sales. I believe Jos. A Bank trees are the same as Allen Edmond cedar trees. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2919/...226ecb0d10.jpg |
Dpending on the sole, if the rubber is hard you will still be sliding everywhere especially on ice. But at least it won't be asorbing moisture though. |

The firsts were around 50% off if I recall correctly, Seconds were about 70% Of course they had a pricelist so the actual discounts might vary a bit but yea. I felt the RC stuff was very reasonably priced for their quality material WH was on average 10-20$ more than the RC equivalent. EDIT: And yea I wanted a blanket as well, $90 retail was more than I could chew but $45 for a super soft fleece blanket might have forced a kop haha |
just went today. got 2 colorblock shirts and a plain white tee. very happy! wish i can go again but i have work tomorrow and monday! |
I'll go tomorrow and grab some stuff. It was way too busy at the friends and family preview on Wednesday. I still managed to grab a camel mac for $300 though. Very pleased, considering I paid like $500 for my tartan mac and it's hand down the best piece of outerwear I've ever purchased. |
Can someone going to the warehouse sale tmr help me buy something? I'll compensate you for your troubles! PM me. |
