Some people/companies are suggesting to

I put mine outside stacked one on top of the other, i'll let you know if fail happens

+Kardboard+ 12-15-2009 06:33 PM

I keep mine stacked in bags in the garage. Mild fail haha

StylinRed 12-15-2009 09:24 PM

when i got rims i kept my stocks stacked up in the garage inflated, couple years later when i put them back on to get my winters placed on the rims they were fine

!SG 12-16-2009 06:09 AM

tire totes.

cant deflate, might not be able to reinflate without a bead blaster, at least the rear 2...

godwin 12-16-2009 07:08 AM

Remember clean and wax your tires before you store them !! Use extra coating of wax at hard to reach places so when you have remounted you won't get brake dust in hard to reach places.

Get the Michelin Tire Totes, $8 a pair from a place called MFT at the Langley side of GEB.

How are you guys storing your all-seasons/summers? I have mine on a vertical tire stand from CT in my garage. But then I've heard that the tires should be placed in bags, as airtight as possible. Does it actually matter how they're stored for a 4 month period?

My understanding is that you're to minimize oxygen contact as that it hardens the compounds, just like rubber. But we're talking about YEARS/DECADES here, so 4 months is nothing. Personally I didn't bother with bags. You'll wear out and replace your tires way before this will become an issue. However, if you were leaving them out in direct sunlight, I'd move them to the shade.

Why can't tires touch concrete for extended periods? This is news to me.

I have mine stacked, but that's just because it's the most space-efficient. The other reason in theory is to prevent flat spots if you store them upright, but the weight of a rim + tire is nothing compared to the weight on them when they're mounted on your car and you're parked. Again, more overkill.

Gh0stRider 12-16-2009 03:50 PM

i just threw my rims/tires on the ground of the garage.

I use the tire totes from Canadian Tire and the cardboard cutouts from the TireRack when they shipped my wheels so as not to scuff the faces.

I washed my wheels and dried them and also put a coat of wax before "bagging" them up in the totes and they are stored in "guest room" as there's no room in the garage.

Swapped on Saturday... didn't want to autocross on winters when it's this warm out.

slammer111 02-04-2010 11:19 AM

Swapped 'em out. AMGs back on. :D Tried my new torque wrench and breaker bar too. 3x easier than before. (used to use my factory wrench) Now to pick up a hydraulic jack..

This is so much better than last winter.
