or worst tear your inner fender wall into crap... and rip up any lines you have in the vicinity.

If you are picking between chains or winter tires.. winter tires hands down.. chains are a pain in the ass to put on and take off.

at best the fall off on the outside

at worst, they fall off inside and get tangled up around your axles

looked at the cable chains that lordco is selling.

the box says "do not exceed 30 mph"

would driving over that make the cables snap?

yes.

i remember awhile back looking at something different... it was from japan, goes on like tire chains, but was a rubber mesh instead of metal links, and was studded, and it was speed rated for city speeds. i have to look for it online again...

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-24-2009 07:48 AM

bought the chain last year

looked like a pain in the ass to install on lower cars so i was like fuck it

beside it said you cannot go over 50-60km, so that means you cant drive on the hwy? pfff

!Yaminashi 11-27-2009 10:30 AM

Damnit it all to hell. The one day that its dry I have to work. Would've been a good day for a switcheroo and a wash

*facepalm*

I have to fail myself right now... I bought two sets of tires/wheels anticipating my 2010 Lancer Ralliart, which comes with 18" OEM wheels wearing 215/45R18. Nice BBS summer wheels with 235/40R18 Dunlops. 5x114.3 pattern, of course. 215/45R18 Blizzak winter tires.

THEN I went and fell in love with a 2010 GTI Mk6 which comes with 225/45R17 wheels and tires. With a 5x112 pattern. And signed for the car.

*facepalm*

Weather Network is so inaccurate but if they're right, it could be getting pretty cold.

Picked up some almost brand new Pirelli Carvings off Craigslist for $260, another $60 for putting then on steelies and voila, winter mode!

Yes.

But to be fair, if you're driving in conditions that require cables, you wont want to be going that fast anyway.

Well, I finally got them on tonight... Man feels so weird driving with narrower tires (going from 205/55 to 185/65)... so much more sidewall flex too when doing sharp turns.

Road noise isn't very noticeable, but I do feel more road vibrations.

this is my first season driving with snow tires, and they are so very different compared to my summers. The grip is lower, the sidewall is so flexible, tight turns make screeching noises on those painted lines on the floor, and a lot more vibrations on the highway.

Went from 225/45/17 -> 205/55/16 on Toyo Garrits kyx

I'm still running all seasons. I'm hoping this weekend will be dry so I can slap on my winters
