I think a chunk of used tire looks more bad-ass.

I'm off for a Stanley park run right now. I'll be aiming for that time ;)

hud 91gt 04-04-2013 01:37 PM

Had to work hard in the rain to keep warm lol

Threw down a big effort on the Prospect Point Climb and a PR of 3:19 :D

I heard you did that climb in under 3 minutes.

ForbiddenX 04-04-2013 04:38 PM

I'm looking at getting a new road bike and was wondering what you guys would recommend?

I don't want to spend a lot of money on it right now just something I could use during the spring and summer for bike rides. Probably around $300-$500 max if that's doable or would it be worth it to spend a bit more?

$300-500 doesn't get you much for a road bike. At that price you would be buying pre-owned for sure, and even then the quality is questionable. It's not a lot of fun riding a bike with gears that don't shift too well, a road bike that's almost as heavier than some mountain bikes.

If you spent $600-800 on a pre-owned bike, it would be overall much better quality which would help to improve your riding experience, and also easier to resell at less of a loss if you decide its not for you (or you love it and want to upgrade).

For that price, maybe consider a hybrid? Like UFO said, you won't get anything worthy with that price range.

Unless you're willing to pony up at least $800 to $1200, you might be able to get a crappy used hipster bike that rides like a tank for $500 (hipster tax included.)

Bravo good sir, Bravo! 3:00 is just around the corner! Time to step it up a notch thats for sure. WOW

Ch28 04-04-2013 05:26 PM

You're going to need to spend at least 600$ for a decent used bike, and even then your going to have a hard time finding good deals

Keep pushing it. I had a friend send me a screen shot of his ride. I was exhausted when I saw it. 80km at 30.8km/h. I said to him "You must be pushing it so hard everywhere, like no coasting". His reply "I'm always pushing, on the downhill, I just push a bit less". And it's true. Even on a lot of the uphills, keep your RPM up and even though you don't think you can push that extra gear, just do it. Mind over matter.

hud 91gt 04-04-2013 05:32 PM

If you can wait a bit. Sport Chek might have the same deal as last year with the Jamis line up. Blow out last years bikes, combined with a 20% off team assist coupon (Are they out this year yet) you can get a smokin' deal. My 105 spec'd Jamis was $900 with a $100 worth of free gear. The model under which would be fine for the recreational ride was around the $600 mark with the coupon.

604CEFIRO 04-04-2013 07:12 PM

Totally agree.

both flats and hills, i always try to keep my cadence around 100

+1 for Wiggle.com

Ordered on the Sunday, showed up on the Thursday, free shipping for over $100, and no duties.

Had to order 650c tubes&tires for my friends hipster single gear road bike, didn't even realize they made tires that small and Cannondale rims no-less. Can't believe she rode up to Grouse Parking on this thing, makes me look pathetic LOL.

604CEFIRO 04-04-2013 08:35 PM

^ damn I'm waiting for my wiggle order lol. Ordered Saturday just landed in customs today pending clearance :(

I think it was West Point Cycles or Bike Gallery who made that bike, or rather, got it ordered.
