man, i dont know if it's b/c i ride my rear brakes too hard, don't modulate the brakes well, but i changed my pads (front and back) 1st week of February, and my back brakes are already worn all the way down ! Black SwissStop's ....

My shimano pads lasted from september - february through the winter...

hud 91gt 04-09-2013 12:13 PM

Stop using your rear brake so much :p Shimano pads have always been a harder compound in the MTB world. We always swapped em out for some softer pads for a little better performance. Unfortunately, they never last as long.

Rim brakes :fuckthatshit:

I got my headlight today! It's charging now and I'll throw up a review sometime soon.

So minor annoyance putting on the gp4000s. Seems like they are a tad more plump than my 700x25 conti sports... The clearance on my crud mk2 fenders are so tight that the rear 700x25 tire is rubbing on one particular spot on the tire and fender. I thought at first it was the middle ridge that runs along the middle of the tire.. It's like a mold line/excess rubber so I took a shaving razor and carefully shaved it off. Still rubbing hard.

Inflated to 110psi like my old ones... Bah. I don't wanna take the fenders off till the weather is actually consistently dry out

Either than the rubbing issues with your fender. How you liking them so far? Seeing lots of good reviews with these tires.

Anyone order anything from this site?

$1400 for a ~15lb bike seems very tempting...

604CEFIRO 04-09-2013 01:06 PM

You're not the only one. I tend to ride the rear brake a lot more compared to my front

I think dat_steve did and one of my co-worker's did.

604CEFIRO - Come join the dark side. Sell your 105 group and get at least a SRAM Rival groupset. :fullofwin:

bcedhk 04-09-2013 02:24 PM

where are some good social groups or classes to get some advice on cyclocross?

604CEFIRO 04-09-2013 02:39 PM

No thanks to sram :P

When my income rises to the next tax bracket and if I'm allowed to get another bike, it will be electronic shifting

Campagnolo Super Record EPS, right? :troll:

604CEFIRO 04-09-2013 02:47 PM

The day i have a $10k + bike is the day i'm a MAMIL

but probably by then, i'll have the legs to drop kids in their early 20's to justify something uber blingy like a dogma ;)

[edit]

I do dream nightly about upgrading to the next groupset... but really, i dont see myself wanting to upgrade to ultegra... or even dura-ace. I don't see the moderate gains affecting my ride very much. my 105 shifts amazing already... i've already felt what ultegra is like. and i've shifted di2 before and it's ridiculous.

I'd opt for something di2

bcrdukes 04-09-2013 02:52 PM

Oh yeah, I was at Strada Cycles the other day and got to play with a Super Record groupset on a bike build they were doing.

My initial toughts:
- Thumb shifters - They remind me of Shimano 2300/Sora shifters. You press down to shift into a lower cog (more speed.) Swing the lever shifter inwards into a higher cog (gear down.)
- The shifts are very mechanical - *Click click click click*. It has this mechanical accuracy that is very beautiful and precise.
- I like their hood design. Fits my hands nicer than SRAM.

Conclusion:
- Campy is too damn expensive
- Campy is a bastard child of Shimano and SRAM. You get a bit of both but on extreme ends, both physically and mechanically (i.e. shifters, hoods, shifting precision)
- Shifting up into a higher gear takes some effort, somewhere along the lines of Shimano, but shifting down is very effortless. I didn't like this as I felt it being inconsistent.
- Like anything Italian, their stuff is nice when new, but when it gets older, shit breaks like crazy and it gets expensive and time consuming.
- Campy sucks. :D
- IMHO, SRAM is the best compromise between Shimano and Campy
- I will own a Campy group set one day because I love shitty Italian garbage

That is all. :D

15.4lbs is for the Team version of the bike, full Dura Ace and Ksyrium Elite wheelset, $3500.

the $1400 Pro version is basically 105 with low end heavy R500 wheelset, expect it to weigh ~18lbs

Anybody interested in carbon fiber handle bars? I'm looking to change to something with a conservative drop. I've got a 2012 Easton EC90 SLX bar in 44cm. It's a year old and like new. Asking $100 for it.

Pictures for reference - Easton EC90 SLX3 Pro Ergo Road Bar | Buy Online | ChainReactionCycles.com

Width - 44 (center-to-center)

:ahwow:

bcrdukes 04-09-2013 06:27 PM

The drop on these bars are too aggressive for me. If I were taller and skinnier (re: size 28 or 30 waist) yeah, I'd keep them but sadly, life can play sick jokes on you as you age.

dat_steve 04-09-2013 09:01 PM

@heleu - ordered my fixie off bikesdirect. get it shipped to PR and you're golden!

on that note @604cefiro - ride a fixie and no need to worry about brakes!...

604CEFIRO 04-09-2013 10:40 PM

So apparently the gp4000s are just a hair wider than the continental sports in the same size... cant run the 700x25 i just bought even tho my old tires were the same size. doesnt fit under my fender.

Anyone want to buy a brand new Continental GP4000S in 700x25? $40 ;)

Alphamale 04-09-2013 11:00 PM

Anyone wanna ride this weekend? Either Sunday and/or Saturday.

I'm thinking deep cove or something.

bcrdukes 04-09-2013 11:11 PM

By ride, you mean at a casual pace, right?

Ch28 04-10-2013 08:25 AM

Does anyone have any experience with the "dhb aeron" line of bib shorts? I'm looking at them on wiggle right now and they seem to get excellent reviews
Posted via RS Mobile

604CEFIRO 04-10-2013 09:03 AM

I haven't had hands on experience with DHB, but my Rapha bibs do use the same brand of chamois as the DHB (different model chamois tho)

With the hundreds of 4+ star reviews, you probably can't go wrong.

The most important part of a bib short is the chammy, and Cytech is one of the best / most comfortable out there.

I would go on the Cytech website, and cross reference which chammy the shorts you want to buy is using, and read up on it. Each model chammy does a different thing (thickness, breathability, etc).

It appears the different models of the Aerons use different fabrics in the body. Race fabrics are generally lighter/ thinner ...

Good buy though for something under $100

Ch28 04-10-2013 10:47 AM

I'm looking at getting the dhb aeron pro, because review says their chamois is super comfortable. Do you guys prefer thicker fabric? Will it be more susceptible to tear since it's thinner, or is it just as strong?

OTG-ZR2 04-10-2013 10:50 AM

I have a DHB high-viz rain jacket and it is superb quality. Watch their sizing though, they apparently are off target for North American body sizes. I ended up with an XL when I'm usually a small/medium....Mind you this is for a jacket.

I should be in for a ride this weekend. Saturday is better, but Sunday is doable too.
