As long as Shell is offering 91 without ethanol, they have my business.

Rising food price, global food crisis.

There's no global food crisis. When is the last time you had a problem buying anything you wanted to eat?

The problem is 3rd world countries starving cause they cannot afford food. If you give more food to a starving 3rd world country, it only creates more starving mouths to feed. They don't have any population control measures (education, contraception, ....) and the population will always expand/contract with the food supply.

hotong 01-25-2010 03:47 PM

wtf... why!!!!! ethanol fucked up my turbo itr :(

alwaysideways 01-25-2010 03:55 PM

So the government saying the all gas needs Ethanol happened because??? Its worse for the environment, cost the general population more....but the gas companies say its better for their wallets?

Anyways enough whining....when do we get E85? People in the states have been having crazy tunning success! mmm high numbers off of pump!

Gnomes 01-25-2010 04:05 PM

Agreed!!! Well, at least 94 is unaffected... I'd be pissed if the ethanol messed up my engine!!!

yvrnycracer 01-25-2010 05:42 PM

was using petro 94 after one of the VW tuners had said that petro was better than chevron's 94... then they canceled it so had to go back to chevron... at least the 94 is untouched...

hotjoint 01-25-2010 07:10 PM

i'll still use chevron, been using them for atleast 5 years now

Dude, Petro's 94 and Chevron's 94 was the same stuff. Petro got it from Chevron. :haha:

dude they do add ethanol to it

crazyazn 01-25-2010 08:24 PM

I always thought Chevron gas (except 94) contained ethanol like everyone else? Since I got worse mileage using Chevron 92 than Shell 91 (which has NO ethanol).

Shell has been 10%/5%/0% ethanol (87/89/91) for a while

So if you guys don't require 94...then go for Shell since their 91 V-Power has NO ethanol.

Shell V-Power (91) has no ethano, as per their stickers. 87 has 10% and 89 has 5%.

Supafly 01-25-2010 08:38 PM

not a fan of shell gas.....i'd guess its time to re-tune my rocket with a powerchip and run 94... =D

maxx 01-25-2010 09:03 PM

Been using shell 91 for 7 years now

moomooCow 01-25-2010 10:08 PM

Yup. There's a sticker on every pump that says "may contain up to 10% ethanol".

For those of you who don't pay attention... as I've posted many times over many years... there is only ONE refinery in the Lower Mainland, and it's owned by Chevron. Regardless of which gas station you buy from, all fuel in Metro Vancouver comes from that one refinery, unless it's been trucked in from Alberta or the US. The only difference is the tiny amount of additives that each 'brand' adds to their fuel.

Not exactly. Shell, Chevron, Petro-Canada have their own tank farms near SFU that are piped in from Edmonton from their respective refineries through the Trans-mountain Pipeline via Kindermorgan. Trucks distribute from each tank farm daily.

Incorrect. The flame temperature is lower with Ethanol, and it actually creates a cooling effect when combusted. However, its energy density is lower, thus having to burn a bit more to compensate for the heat transfer in the cycle.

WOW are you misinformed.

Have you ever though countries that were very poor (hint china/half of south america) now have boatloads of money to eat affluently?

jlenko 01-26-2010 08:57 AM

n/m.. my source was somewhat incorrect...

jlenko 01-26-2010 09:19 AM

I was trying to figure out which stations still source their product from the US. I love Google sometimes!

Only one I can find that still does... is Super Save. Apparently, they buy from the Arco refinery in Cherry Point, Washington.

illicitstylz 01-26-2010 09:29 AM

Do the gas stations in Blaine put ethanol in their fuels? If not, more reason to fill up in the US...

Doubtful. Incorrect octane level probably messed it up. E10 won't do anything to the average car.
