I just topped up $20 of Shell 91 V-Power and indeed - no ethanol as per the sticker. This was the Shell located at the corner of Clark & E. 12th Ave. Throttle response and acceleration is better compared to the Chevron 91 I had filled up a week ago.

Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but after using chevron 91 right after they introduced ethanol one of my high mileage cars started to knock. Since then I've been filling Chevron 94/Shell 91 but the knocking continues.

I thought Chevron 91/92 always had a certain amount of ethanol in it....it's the 94 that contains no ethanol.

^This is true because 91 is placed with 87 and 89 which contains ethanol and has a "may have up to 10% ethanol" sticker beside the gas pump. The 94 gas pump is by itself and always says "contains no ethanol".

Only if you're running E85 on a constant basis in a car not designed for it. E10/E5 isn't going to damage components.

Effects may be minimal and likely unnoticeable for cars with fresh hoses, but you can't say E5/E10 is exactly the same as non-ethanol gas in terms of performance/economy and wear and tear on rubber and plastic components.

All things being equal, non ethanol gasoline is still the better of the two if given the choice.

Also have to consider the effects of growing all that corn to create ethanol.

From what I've read, the US gov't hugely subsidizes corn farmers in the states, which is creating a surplus of corn (most of which is inedible when unprocessed) every year even after it's used in Ethanol. This makes it super cheap for food producers to make foods with High Fructose Corn Syrup and other processed corn-based food products which ends up in our diets.

I'll check Shell or Chevron in the SFU Burnaby area in maybe 2-3 weeks. I'll also try to check at Esso on Saturday as well.

Does 10% ethanol really kill engines? I thought all modern cars (ie last 10+ years) were designed with this fuel in mind. Tons of stations have it already blended in, and you don't see cars stranded everywhere.

Newer cars will not have problems running E10. The only negative is that you MAY notice higher gas consumption, but the difference should be somewhat minuscule. For me, it's roughly 12.5l/100km vs 13l/100km.

Because there is a difference, I'll choose no ethanol. Shell V-Power (91) gets my vote.

Ethanol is supposed to be more resistant to knocking, however, I find when I'm running 91 w/ Ethanol @ Chevron, my speed3 posts more Knock/Retard alerts on my Dashhawk.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but Domo (No3 and Cambie in Richmond) has no ethanol in its 91 octane gas.

May have been previously posted already. But Chevron mid-grade 89/91 is essentially a mix of 87 and 94, which is why there is ethanol content from the 87 portion of the mix even though 94 is 'clean'.

Same thing with Shell, their 89 is a mix of 87 and ethanol free 91.

I gotta say the whole premium gas brand is pretty BS. (you could look it up on google, it has been debated for countless times) As a matter of fact, I can't tell any difference on my E93 from Domo 91 vs V-Power in terms of throttle response.

But coming back to original topic, no ethanol for me as long as I have a choice. I'm paying for gas, why do you put something that's not gasoline in it?

I guess we are a little luckier here in the Okanagan, we don't have any ethanol blended fuel, unless you buy from Mohawk or Husky!
