how can this guy just get off the hook like that for $40k..

No. I didn't want to keep spending money on lawyer fees to get nothing in return. I accomplished enough on the US part. Just need to wrap it up in BC.

Anyone know a decent civil attorney up there that doesn't want a $5K retainer before they will give me the time of day?

Maybe a fellow car enthusiast that would give me a break to see this guy burn?

The FBI agent that bought my old Supra told me to take everything I have and personally go down to the Seattle FBI office so they may take it more seriously because to him it's a clear cut case of international wire fraud and he said they have liasons up there that could go and arrest him. I guess I better get my ass moving on that.

Mike, yes we do have a FBI agency here in Vancouver,so get your ass in gear and do what you gotta do.

Generally a good lawyer won't take a file if they know they can't win or get anything...

They wouldn't take it on a contingency basis. They'd do it for an hourly rate though. $5000 retainer is a bit steep. The attorney I used down here had a $10K retainer but they felt bad for me since I wasn't the typical corporate client they deal with so they cut it in half for me. Whatever I ended up not using they refunded me.

If you aren't willing to pay a lawyer, consider suing him in small claims court. The max you can sue him for is $10K, but you can do this without needing a lawyer. You will lose your claim for the other $30K, but at this point, it is probably better to write off part of the debt. He'll either have his wages garnished if he ever got a "real" job, or you'll screw him to the point he will never bother to get a real job in order to avoid paying you and his other debtors. He is probably trying to rack up as much debt as he can before declaring bankruptcy. Loser. You should pursue him criminally through the FBI anyway.

bing 11-17-2012 08:17 PM

^he can sue up to $25k in small claims.

But he'll probably need this scumbag's address. Without it, you can pay a $600-900 fee to have him tracked down by skiptrace (they may or may not charge you if they can't find the guy but you'll have to inquire).

As far as tracking him down that hasn't been an issue. The only time I needed to know where he was was when he got served court papers while he was hiding out by LA. That's when there was no use hiding out anymore in the Motel 6 so he begged his mom for money to get home.

Sweet lamp.

lol.

I haven't really paid much thought to this for a couple years or whenever it was that they got booted from the house in Surrey.

I'm pretty sure they are still living at his mom's house. People think I can't find him or that he's a wanted man. That's not the case. I'm just taking my time wrapping up the legal stuff because there is no sense paying an attorney to go after nothing.

I wouldn't say it's gone. I just haven't wrapped up my end to start trying to collect legally. You know what happens when you ignore a lawsuit? You lose by default.

There are 2 parts to this: US judgement followed by registering it in BC.

Ahhh, I see where you're going. Problem is, I doubt he has any assets worth 40k for you to get your money back :okay:
