yep that's what I'm taking, the instructor is pretty good, Frank Wegner. The material is a bit dry, lots of terms to remember. first half is database stuff, 2nd half is SQL server

Tried to do smt right today and actually pay for parking. How do they expect us to pay when the machine freezes up on the remove card/receipt screen.

Ended up having to move the car when I had a prime spot

On another note, met Matsuda today. Always nice to meet an RSer at school. Still haven't met Gerbs or LP

Has anyone here taken any of the House Inspection courses?

Gerbs 03-11-2018 06:39 PM

Is there any comp sci courses I can take for the electives. I need two, but all the interesting ones have so many pre-requisites.

BIC_BAWS 03-23-2018 06:42 PM

Hey Gerbs & LP, remember when i tried to plan this last year? LOOOL

I'm seeing if a couple friends are willing to go. it's at an odd hour. Most people are working 9 -5 or at school at 3:00. I think we should set something else up at like 5:30.

Yeah in working 9-5 or well 9-9 realistically LOL. If it was Wednesday, I'd be more inclined to go. Cause I have night class, might as well go a bit early

If it's something like 5:30, i'd drop by right after work. Literally 5 mins away lol

I believe so, thought your e46 has carbon fiber front lip, so didn't think that was yours.

Finished the last finals yesterday, almost dozed off during the exam like 25 minutes in. Was so sleepy from work prior. But luckily managed to finish in time.

Now off to campus to learn html. Thinking about career change.

It's far better than working as an accountant so far

Ya I feel, I've been working full time in the accounting industry for a year. When it comes to tax season, it's like you could be making $330/hr (at $33 per general tax return), but shits so boring that I have 0 motivation

If I made $330/hr that would be a different story :ilied:

Not even making 1/11th of that lol. Deciding if I want to switch to comp sci, or finish off cpa. Still got 1 year of school before graduating to decide.

You could easily make over $30 an hour, with a CPA.

My family's bookkeeping practice's regular rates are $25/hr. But since there's no way for me to get a pay raise to above $18/hr without costing my family, I just end up finding my own clients and setting my own rates. I do prefer to do more consulting than bookkeeping/accounting tho.

Point is, if money is the issue, start your own thing. I know plenty of people paying over $50/hr for a glorified bookkeeper (throwing shade at a specific person who claims he's an accountant, but doesn't have their CPA - what's the legality of that)

That's true maybe i'll look for my own clients. Only 2 months into my job though. Still lots of experience to be gained. Will work on learning coding languages in the mean time. Take 2 libs courses and 2 comp sci courses for this summer.

Most clients really just want full cycle bookkeeping / accounting (I really hate bookkeeping), and a couple of financial reports every now and then, that you can just easily find and spit out from your preferred accounting software.

As an update to prices, one of our associated partners charges $75 per half hour for consulting - she's a fresh-ish CPA.

Anyone taking summer courses?

BIC_BAWS 04-25-2018 06:20 PM

So I actually didn't finish my diploma until a month ago when i finished the last course that I needed. But now BCIT is dicking me around and saying that I need to register for a PTS Certificate, finish all of those courses and then register for a PTS diploma and finish all those courses.

That's fucking bullshit. Why would I pay more money to register, when all I fucking needed was one course. I've fulfilled all of the FT program's requirements, just give me my fucking diploma.

What a bunch of cocksucking crooks. Just a money grab.

Gerbs 04-25-2018 09:14 PM

What's a PTS and those extra courses. I've had to technically switch over and register for PT when I initially paid my fee for full time.

It's all weird lingo.
