Spotted a red 67 or 69 Mustang in the staff lot across from the SE6 lower level entrance. What a beaut!

Hows everyone feel about the referendum vote for new building. Personally, paying for a building Ill never be able to use for my benefit is a definite no.

coneZONE 03-31-2017 07:31 PM

I have no idea what is happening, but why are they concerning us for a building in 5-6 years? Everyone in the audience should be graduated and outta here long before the building arrives. And also feels like the dude is looking down on the trades, like aren't we supposed to be the best technical school? Why do the trades have the shittiest buildings?
We only happened to be there during lunch, and he mentioned something about trades being "technically full time according to BCIT", well hell yeah we are full time for the amount of time we spend there, not being at work, idk how much tuition fees the regular long programs have to pay, but we have to pay around a grand for seven weeks of school too, and there's a lot of turnover for trades, idk why he's making that point?

Endrant lol

If it was done being built while i'm still in school and able to use it. I wouldn't mind paying the $40/term. I also wouldn't mind if alumni's have access even after they are done their diploma/degree, cause i'd wanna study there for the CFA since it's close to home. But if it has the same access privilege as the ehpod where you need a student ID. I wouldn't want to pay for it.

When is it built by? I remember paying the building fee ($100ish?) for the Langara science building.

They're targeting Fall 2017 as a fund generator for some reason, most students here in Fall 2017 even if they just started BCIT wont be around when its done.

Yep. Probably won't get in. But if I do, I want to do dual degree. Mix travelling into work

Jmac 04-09-2017 06:55 PM

BCITSA keeps spamming my BCIT e-mail, my work e-mail, and even my D2L pages with this crap despite the fact that I'm ineligible to vote.

Please give them a solid middle finger on my behalf next time you see someone associated with the BCITSA.

What's a dual degree? I'm looking into the exchange program. Options aren't that good. But i'm open to Austria or Korea atm. Anyone know how application to exchanges work.

On the other note. Working my ass off to make sure I get >65% in accounting/taxation/finance, other wise the conditional offer for the degree gets cancelled lol.

I was open to Korea until I found out that it's a degree completion. So you would only get 1 degree - a Korean degree.

Austria/belgium/Vienna is dual degree. You finish your bba here, and then you get another degree over there for the same cost.

Didn't realize the exchange gives you a degree from the host country. Thought we would go over there and do the general electives there instead of home. I just wanna finish as soon as possible. Just found out I have minimum 3 - 4 more semesters to complete the degree.

Just got a conditional offer yesterday for the FT Degree!

Btech or bba?

Gerbs 04-14-2017 07:56 PM

Btech! They changed the name to Bachelors of Accounting this year and changed the curriculum. I actually kind of wanted to go into BBA since you'd meet a more broad spectrum of people. But didn't know what jobs i'd look for afterwards.

has anyone taken the collision estimator courses (ABOD0101, 0102) at BCIT?

Applied learning

Your education will go beyond the classroom and will involve the people, environments, and tools that you will encounter in the real world.
BULLSHIT!

I just went through 12 weeks of sitting in class listening to straight lecture and our instructor expected us to memorizing all 12 weeks of study without a cheat sheet. In the real world, people google shit they don't remember!

I hate finals!

BIC_BAWS 04-20-2017 05:25 PM

Rip. Got my application results. Didn't get it, I guess it's gonna be plan b

tell me about it, im in electrical engineering and they keep throwing you assignments and labs right up to the finals. I had my finals this week and had 2 freakin finals TODAY.

We dont even have enough time to study well and our instructors made our finals ridiculously hard. My marks before the final was in the 70% now im just hoping I pass... and I haven't slept for 2 days.

The whole concept of BCIT is that it known to be tough so I feel that all programs try their best to make their curriculum to add pressure onto their students. But is this any effective? I am not even learning anythin anymore, just tryin to memorize and make it through /rant

That's how I feel. Profs do extra shit to make the curriculum harder than it needed to be. Just because of the expectation that BCIT is supposed to be tough.

Biggest pet peeves are the profs that don't release the solution key for lab assignments for certain classes. Like if you wanted the students to do their best for the exams and learn. Wouldn't it be best to release the answer keys? Rather than go to lab and scramble to copy everything down just to redo everything later. I also feel that they shouldn't make lectures and labs mandatory. That way students can balance work and school at the same time. How the fuck are we suppose to apply for jobs when we grad after 3 - 4 years without working and everything requires 1 - 2 years experience ?!!??!

That being said going to try to look for work next semester and balance 28 - 36 hours of work. Since the degree program is only 4 courses a semester.

I feel the other way around. Midterm and finals marks should be scrapped. It's not an effective way to learn. Students are just studying to get through it. And most of the classmates I talk to, they say they just forget about everything afterwards. It's good to have a midterm so instructors know how far you're falling behind. But it should count towards marks.

BCIT should honestly be about applied learning. When we work on projects, we learn so much. Lectures and written quiz and lab assignments, we just forget about them.
