anyone know the % addmission to get into ECET? And then the ECET admission % to get into EE?

% to get into ECET isn't that high. I'm guessing 70s would do. % to get into EE from ECET is around 70 - 75% depending each each year. ECET/EE is hectic workload wise. I'm in the third term of the ECET program doing the Automation option.

Any of the engineering programs are brutal as fuck

Does anyone here study computer science or a related field at BCIT? If so could you please PM me? I'm thinking of doing a second degree and am considering SFU/UBC vs BCIT and would greatly appreciate your opinion.

ECET is fucking hell. I tried it, hated every day of it. Dropped it after 1 term. But yeah dlo I know what you mean, starting second year FinMan for me come September.

Just to make sure, I apply for the ECET diploma, then switch into EE after first year?
1) How many courses was it a semester?
2) Besides the heavy workload, were the courses themselves difficult? If Math/Physics 12 is a 3, (from 1-10), what were the difficulty of the courses a semester? Thanks!

Man I really miss BCIT. Did my Marketing Dip and BBA there about 7 years ago. Was a great experience and has helped a lot in terms of transference to the real working world. Hang in there guys and enjoy every moment, even those cold rainy days when you can't find a parking spot.

Yeah, the first year is common to ECET and EE. Then after first year you choose what you want to apply for. It's 1 more year for a diploma or 3 more for a degree or you can do the btech degree part time while working (what I may end up doing).

First and second term are 6 courses each as seen here BCIT : : Electrical Engineering. The courses weren't necessarily that difficult (maybe a 3 or 4 on your scale) but there is a lot of lab work to do. With labs you have to do the lab preb before hand so that takes a lot of time. First term was easier with 3 labs and fairly easier courses. Second term was a gong show with 5 labs and some harder courses.

It's a decent program. I haven't had much to complain about. All the teachers are pretty good and fair.

Arch sci is a lot different than ABET.
ABET is a prerequisite as far as I know.

Keep in mind the first year of ABET is designed in such a way to weed out the quitters. Just be prepared yo have a lot of shit thrown at you.
Dont slack in your BLDG 1200+1600 classes. Your drafting projects will keep you there long hours

And also, do i need to buy books etc before classes start or wait till after first class/week.

I was a summer intern at Flynn Canada as a project coordinator so most likely after school is done I'll be back fulltime. That's the one perk about BCIT, its a good way to get your foot in the door.

As far as books go, you could look to see what books are recommended but usually instructors will tell you which you need for sure and which are optional. Just a tip, always check online for PDF versions and save yourself hundreds of dollars

So it's true that BCIT will almost guarantee you a position in the field you are studying?

I wouldn't say guarantee. I know alot of people in my program that couldn't find jobs this summer or have no experience in the field.

But I know for a fact companies go to BCIT to recruit students upon graduation.

Depends on the program you're taking.. For my marketing grad class, probably 40% found related jobs, 25% went back for BBA, 25% stayed at their serving job because it pays more than entry level positions and the last 10% dropped off the face of the earth.

I took HVAC-R Co-op program, currently employed.
There was a non co-op program, out of the 16, 8 graduated. (note non co-op was 3 months longer)
Out of the 16 guys that started the program 12 finished.
8/12 found a job before the program ended (pay varies for 1st year 12-18$/hr)
4/12 are jobless 2 weeks past

Teachers are wicked, guys in class are super friendly and not your highschool drama queens.
Would reccomend the program, dont do shit last minute, program is REALLY INTENSE, i have 2 buddies in electrical and from what it looks like my program packed in 3 months worth of electrical in 1 month of hvac, lastly have no life for a few months, IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

Thinking of taking UBC SFU? from what iv seen is bcit graduates have a MUCH higher job rate, oh also the fact that most of the trades are 6months-1year long and you have a job?
Go ahead and go to UBC for 2-5years to get your major and then not be able to find a job. Not to mention be in dept from school fees much more than any bcit student.
