Anyone have experiences with the interior design program?

I'm pretty much a drifter at the moment. Went to Langara for a few years right out of high school without much of a direction. Took a year off and travelled. Then I went to VCC last semester for the hospitality program, which itself was nice, but not really sure if it's what I would like to do for a career.

Been going down the list of programs at BCIT recently and the interior design program sounds interesting enough, as well as the digital design and development program. But the latter I would imagine would be much harder to find a job.

BCIT also has a workshop for it in a few weekends - http://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/intd0100 - "Do you dream of becoming an interior designer and think it may be your calling? This weekend workshop is the perfect place to find out!"

I'll be done with the Interior Design program (diploma) in 5 days. What would you like to know?

All you need to know; Hot girls, hot girls everywhere.

The building where you will study is shit, the workload is shit, the program will drive you insane, and getting a job will be hard anyways.

But you will be surrounded by hot women all day long.

Agree to the pretty girls part. Unfortunately they are married, about to get marry or in a relationship, but it doesn't hurt to check them out. To be honest, my class and the other class that will be graduating has 0 guys. Most of them stopped at the certificate level.

All I gotta say is..

1. If you are planning to take Full-Time course load you will not be able to work.
2. Be prepare to not have a social life
3. Be prepare to understand loads of terms and materials
4. It is going to be VERY stressful.

The Interior Design program at BCIT is about concept and technical thinking. If you are able to master the concept part, you'll do fine!

It's fine I guess. They recently change the curriculum for the certificate so I don't know if there will be more hand drafting or everything will be AutoCad. If you are thinking of going to the Diploma, you should get a laptop that runs AutoCad, Sketchup and Revit/Vectorworks. For sure AutoCad will be used most of the time, you may feel comfortable using SketchUp or Revit/Vectorworks.

Biggest advice for CAD/SU/RVT/VW, learn to use the programs efficiently and effectively.
