Grouse and Seymour also exist and are way less terrible in terms of that.

77civic1200 12-23-2021 08:10 PM

Seymour has some kind of permit/parking pass thing now, I don't know the details but you'll want to check before heading up

westopher 12-23-2021 08:40 PM

Yeah it’s a BC parks pass. Cypress has the same. It’s free but you have to book online.

StylinRed 12-24-2021 07:53 AM

It's dumping in Ridge fat flakes that r sticking

Edit: and it's stopped n the sun is peaking thru :lol

^ oh man ... is it the falling ice slush off the bridge phenom again?

StylinRed 12-24-2021 09:19 AM

Yeah it's too windy for them to deploy the ice scrapers

whitev70r 12-24-2021 09:22 AM

Again ... brilliant engineering on the Alex Fraser and Port Mann ... who the hell forgot that ice, slush can build up and need a safe way to eliminate? The P.Eng who signed off on the design should be fired if he hasn't already.

GLOW 12-24-2021 09:32 AM

i thought it was the builder that cost cut, i mean value engineered, the heat trace out of the project?

whitev70r 12-24-2021 09:39 AM

whoever it is ... if it is builder, (I'm sure P. Eng still has to sign off on it being not included in final build) .... he/she/they should be the ones climbing the poles to release those rings to de-ice.

Every year it happens and it just makes my blood boil!

BIC_BAWS 12-24-2021 11:33 AM

What's more infuriating is that there was no warning at all. They should have signs way before Alex Fraser on ramps to tell people to detour to Hwy 17, the interchange is a good example of where.

Everyone's just waiting on Nordel to get by, as per usual on a stormy day. Just to find out AF is closed.

bcrdukes 12-24-2021 11:58 AM

Be thankful that ice didn't fall onto your new Civic and write it off?

You're kidding ... so how do people gtf out of there?

whitev70r 12-24-2021 12:17 PM

Here is warning ...I guess you're suppose to check twitter ??!!

whitev70r 12-24-2021 03:42 PM

Please tell me that they have explored heat tracing systems. Surely there is tech like that or something else that can solve the corner cutting cheap construction build of the damn bridge

Can't really blame engineers since the bridge was built in 1984. Still better than Port Mann which was built in 2006. They should have at least thought of ice bombs in the 2000s. Good thing is the cables are on the side vs the port Mann on which the cables cut across the lanes.

StylinRed 12-24-2021 08:58 PM

It's like the golden ears bridge, they knew about ice bombs, the company that made the bridge had a history of making the same style Bridge with the same ice bomb issue, but they were still like /shrug

Well you just keep driving down nordel (both directions) until you hit the turn for the on-ramp and find out that Alex Fraser is closed both directions [emoji1782]

Yeah so the DriveBC tweet went out at 6:20 apparently. I could hear sirens from my place at around 6:40. I figured it was another crash, as usual, nbd. I detoured around nordel for about 15 mins after finding out it was closed. Just to loop back around to make a right turn to 17 instead of a left turn to AF. Just frustrating that there was no warning at the intersection - I would have just went directly to 17 if I had a warning.
