All I can say is all weather Nokian WR's does not equal snow tires. Good thing for 4 wheel drive and a center locking diff.

Wanted to do some testing in my QX up on SFU. Couldn't brake worth shit, couldn't turn worth shit, and couldn't start from a stand still on a hill worth shit. Snow tires on my S2000 was way better.

Oh yeah, and some punks throwing ice balls at cars. They nearly shit their pants and ran when I stopped and started backing up after them.

1exotic 01-14-2012 01:10 AM

^ crawled home at 5km/h, barely made it... all season on RWD + heavy snow is brutal.

TjAlmeida 01-14-2012 01:12 AM

Whats the penalty for sliding in the snow in public parking lots like a mall?

OTG-ZR2 01-14-2012 01:14 AM

made it 90% in 2 wheel then had to put it 4x4 cause of the stupid hills and lights...able to launch from a stand still like it was dry out :smug:

1exotic 01-14-2012 01:14 AM

0:32 > 1:50 .. nothing much in the video besides the cop.

HonestTea 01-14-2012 01:15 AM

Sticking like crazy in Coquitlam

adambomb 01-14-2012 01:18 AM

I can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on an extra set of rims and good quality snow tires when it only snows in this city maybe 1-2 weeks the entire year. :heckno:

I guess everyone who swapped their rims in Metro Van is getting their moneys worth tonight, but is it worth it? We all know the snow will be gone by the start of the week. All that money for a couple days of stress free driving. :considered:

Snow Drifter caught by cops - YouTube

Did he get towed? I was there then saw police lights and got the heck out of there. Had no idea it was illegal.

Yeah just as I was leaving a tow truck pulled up.
I overheard the cops giving him shit about sliding around.. so not too sure if its completely legal or not.

Meowjin 01-14-2012 01:23 AM

jesus had to drive down from SFU.

murd0c 01-14-2012 01:25 AM

I used to drift at Guildford parking lot all the time back in the day. The cops used to roll up say be safe and take off. WOW things have changed the past 13yrs with that lol

OTG-ZR2 01-14-2012 01:32 AM

I just do the rounds at SFU, never any cops, just security if you stay at one lot for too long.

Couple years ago a security guy busted us, said he doesn't care we were doing donuts but it just has to look like hes telling us to gtfo cause of the cameras. LOL.

And how much would an at-fault accident cost you?

It's not just about money. It's also about being responsible and not endangering yourself and others when the condition is not ideal.

It may only snow a few weeks a year in Vancouver, but temperatures hover near or below freezing for months and all season tires are not designed to operate in temperatures below 7 degrees. A couple hundred dollars a year amortized over the life of winter tires is a small price to pay for the added safety and security over the entire season, nevermind not having to take a gamble everytime you drive when it snows.

FN-2199 01-14-2012 01:38 AM

Damn, I'm itching to go for a drive right now..

TjAlmeida 01-14-2012 01:46 AM

When I was at Coquitlam center one person was pulled over, and another SUV cop was on pipeline and turned on his lights like a smart guy until he realized he was not even at the entrance of the mall parking lot so he turned of his lights to not get the people sliding their cars attention but messed up and all the cars left asap. I thought it was funny, must have been new to the force police.

mad run on sentence, before grammar police crack down on me.
