Nice! I'm accepted as well after finally getting my interview. I just need to get some formal training under my belt to speed up the selection process. That will take place this summer, so hope to go next spring.

and without a Aesa as of now. Rafael will take it.

The French make good planes. I would love for Canada to run the Rafale.

15 actually. Two centre-belly missiles are slightly hidden by the forward most bombs and external fuel tank.

belka 04-28-2011 02:23 PM

Eurocanards are nice when they actually have bombs to drop.

Concerns that supplies of jet-launched precision bombs are growing short in Europe have reignited long-standing controversies over both burden-sharing and compatibility within NATO. While allied jets have largely followed the U.S. lead and converted to precision munitions over the last decade, they have struggled to keep pace, according to senior U.S. military officials.

Libya “has not been a very big war. If [the Europeans] would run out of these munitions this early in such a small operation, you have to wonder what kind of war they were planning on fighting,” said John Pike, director of GlobalSecurity.org, a defense think tank. “Maybe they were just planning on using their air force for air shows.”,

IMO, run the Rafale over the F-35 if the government cancels the plan. Sounds like a decent alternative if we're that hurting for new planes.

If we're going to put a bandaid on a broken leg we might as well get the F18E/F for ease of transition and training, as well as cost (about 55million/jet).

If the F-35 gets cancelled, it would be between the Eurofighter and Super Hornet. Trust me.

tool001 04-28-2011 10:23 PM

I for 1 would like to see a bid process, then comp, along with re-investment clause, not just go with f-35 where we don't even know the final cost per piece & plus life cycle cost worked out. Its pretty amazing that all indications including from pentagon has stated that the final cost will mulitply (but the haper govt. Is still sticking to its guns). Techincal evaluation by af, along with transfer to tech (in full) should be worked out. Something similar to what india is going thru.
