One minute of googling bro. Without endorsing any specific shop, there is one in Richmond that has their prices on their website. |
I have a couple of 27" Thunderbolt displays (which has a hub built in).. honestly moving from Thundebolt2->3 and being incompatible is not such a big deal. T2 devices have aged, things like USB 2 etc. I am really looking forward for the iMac 5k to have USBC so I can use the LG display. As sleek as Apple probably not, besides Apple's display is about 1/2 inch offset (lower) than the slim iMac, so even Apple is not perfect. The only thing that I would be miss is 1394.. but honestly I rather use old hardware for audio anyways.. since it is nearly impossible to get drivers that are "certified" qualifications from the manufacturers with newer OS and hardware. You can try the Hackery and see what they have. What happened? Quote:

New toy is here... :D https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/409/32...89c58a18_z.jpgLG Ultrafine 5K by JayPhoto, on Flickr full 5k is massive... damn... https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/584/32...80d24c47_z.jpg5K resolution! by JayPhoto, on Flickr |
Just got this today... Something Apple should have made when they went all in with TB3/USB-C https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2900/3...5d70957d_c.jpgDSC06178 by JayPhoto, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3759/3...eef334b5_c.jpgDSC06182 by JayPhoto, on Flickr Quality is not too shabby. Sits completely flush and color-matched well. (unless you use it flipped. For some reason the bottom part is just a shade lighter) But it does feel a bit filmsy though. I'd have added slight more thickness/weight to feel like a premium product give its target market. https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3669/3...3f4a51ff_c.jpgDSC06185 by JayPhoto, on Flickr Now pretty much all the necessary ports are back. Great item for MBP owners who take it on the go. https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3736/3...fdd87a0f_c.jpgDSC06190 by JayPhoto, on Flickr BTW, I have one in each color for sale. Ordered for a friend and he's getting the OWC one. |

Not sure if it's been mentioned here... i've been wanting to add mag safe to my Dell XPS 15 and pre-ordered the Snapnator (Snapnator-MagSafe is back!) but with them still having not shipped them out I recently bought this (https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produc...-00B3-00005CVF) from newegg. Once it comes in I will be able to charge my dell via usb-c and no longer have to worry about my kids tripping on the cord. If any of you miss mag safe from your older macbooks, one of these might be a good option. |

The power brick that comes with the XPS is 130W and even the MBP 2016 15" is only 87W. |

I have a question if anyone can help. I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and i have installed a 500gb ssd myself. No problems with it but i was looking at my storage and found that i'm using quite a bit of storage on "backups" and "movies". I have looked everywhere to try to locate and delete these files but I can't seem to find them. I did instal Omnidisksweeper and it only able to read 185GB out of the 350GB used. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks |

This is what I see on my Hackintosh on Sierra. Should be somewhat similar? If it's backups, have you checked under Time Machine? |

Thank you for the help |
Another question for you all, Currently, I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 15" with 2 Ghz i7, upgraded 500Gb SSD, and 8 Gb of Ram. Should I upgrade to a 2016 Macbook Pro 15" with 2.6 quad core, 16 Gb of RAM, 256 Gb SSD, Retina, touch bar, and lighter. Reason why I am considering is my currently Macbook weighs a ton, overheats at times, will not upgrade to the new OS, will not give me imovie for some reason, and no Airdrop. Wanted to know what you guys think who already have it and can give me some insight. Thanks in advance |
^ Things to do: 1. Upgrade your ram on the 2011 MBP to 16GB 2. Weight on the older MBP is a good work out, will contribute to your overall calorie burn 3. No real benefit of new OS's... 4. imovie... I didn't know people use that 5. I've got airdrop and I'm still in school... Over the last 4 years, I've used it 3 times. The rest of the time, things are shared via dropbox Keep your money! |
What USB-C docks are you guys using? I'm looking for something that can provide a few USB-A ports and a USB-C port capable of supplying full 87W of passthrough power. Aside from shelling out $200-300 for a TB3 dock, it seems like this Aukey is the only decent one able to do that - http://a.co/3TXGMFl I liked this Satechi, but I think it can only supply 34W so my laptop would run on battery during loads - http://a.co/1kp1a9B EDIT: Looks like the Aukey one can only do 55W according to System Report. Might just keep it for now and return it when my Sonnet Breakaway comes in the mail next week since it has 87W PD. |
Received my Sonnet Breakaway box the other week and put in a RX 580 (basically the Apple eGPU Developer Kit). Got external graphics working on both macOS and Windows 10. https://egpu.io/forums/implementatio...-10-13-4-win10 |
Any news on if/when the macbook pro will be getting an update? Looking to upgrade my 2011 one. Will probably be my daily and replacing the home desktop as well. |

Only expected change is the processor. |
Anybody else find the touchbar useless? I get it for movie editing etc scrolling through footage but for everyday use I could do without it. I wish they made the 15inch without a touch bar and saved $300. |

Luckily for me, situations where I require precise function key usage is usually when I'm docked. |

Anyone have a USB C hub that has the power passthrough as well as allowing a USB C drive connected at the same time? I've got the Satechi one, but its either power passthrough or a USB C drive. |
