Why would you buy a NEW mac off fleebay?

Razor Ramon HG 12-17-2016 02:19 PM

He bought AppleCare not the laptop

extracrunchie 12-24-2016 09:17 AM

I was waiting for the new MacBook pros while the design is very nice. I opted for the mid 2015 model, bought the refurb 15 inch 2.5 quad core with AMD vid card for $2500.

At least i get a SD card slot hehe, i hope i made the right choice.

My sister did the same. She changed her old 2009 MBP 13" to a 2015 that's sold on Apple's refurb site because she didn't want to deal with carrying extra items when traveling.

Here's a comparison in 13" size from 2016 to 2015 to 2009:

Jeez...makes me thankful for my 11 inch Air lol

This generation is a transition period.. either 2015 or 2016 won't make much of a difference a couple years down. We still don't have high Amp USB C chargers etc. USB C cable has already coming down in price (see last year's Google 6P)

I still remember people crapped their pants when iMac G3 came out.. when G4 came out everyone is using USB already.

I am actually looking forward to the new iMac with USB C so I can retire my Thunderbolt display.

I think the main reason why apple went with USB C is because they can make the laptop thinner and that is their 'innovation'.

That's one also they can reduce their build sheet because USB C is built into the Intel chips.. Thunderbolt was a bit of a handful for Apple in terms of security. It is wise to get Intel to at least split the cost.

I don't oppose to new technology, but i get the impression that the sole goal for apple now is to produce thinner laptops.

But i think steve jobs said it best here, it's hard not to take note how much his influence has diminished since his passing. Because now it's a marketing game.

I did the same. Decided to go for the refurb instead and haven't regretted the decision. I've been using it everyday for projects and photo editing and it's been good enough for me.

I'm not really sold on the touch bar either after trying it out in the Apple Store. Thought it would be nice to have quick functions mapped on there but I do fine with hotkeys. It could be really useful for me if it's possible to use it for different scripts and to configure it to open/close different programs kind of like Alfred.

Finally pulled the trigger on a 15" with TB

Question -- what dongle are you guys using? I'm looking to spend $100 max and I want something that does HDMI and VGA -- haven't found anything that has been confirmed to work with the new MBP's yet

godwin 12-25-2016 04:42 PM

I am using the Aukey one.. have it left over from my Pixel.. works just fine with the 15" MB

This is the one I'm getting:

In the mean time, I'm just using USB3 hub with a USB-C to USB adapter.

Iceman_2K 01-07-2017 06:21 PM

I've been using the 11 inch Air for pretty much what you do and its working out well for me. Honestly, I could have waited a week and got the 12 inch, but in all honesty, it wouldn't have made much of a difference with regards to the size.

BNIB MBP 15' $2000.. worth it?

Still using the first MBP 15" Retina, still runs great... not sure if worth the upgrade or should I buy and make some profit :D

Razor Ramon HG 01-09-2017 10:28 AM

2015 or 2016?

I think for 2016 model its a no-brainer.

Armind 01-09-2017 10:32 AM

Nice design, but I bet it's going to cost $200 USD :lol

roverT 01-15-2017 09:20 PM

With that device the 2015 will be lighter and smaller to lug around with the ports we need to use today. This dongle stuff is a mess right now. I can't wait until two years from now when there is some standard that is widely used.

Tim Budong 01-15-2017 10:01 PM

isnt the standard already usb C haha

Go to best buy and see how many usb C devices you see. Also all older Thunderbolt devices do not work with OSX including external graphics dock. You have to install Windows to get older devices to work.

Pumbaa 01-16-2017 04:33 PM
