Are there any places other than Macstation that does trade in? thinking about trading in a Macbook for the new Macbook Air with Haswell. The one for trade is those old white ones.

Iceman_2K 10-22-2013 03:45 PM

Can't believe the 13inch and 15inch retina's are so cheap now.....i don't think i can hold out any longer, my 5 year old Macbook Pro 13 is beginning to "feel" out of date.....

RickyTan3 10-22-2013 04:08 PM

Good luck on the wait... the non-retina 15 inch has been silently discontinued. The 13 inch is next on the chopping block.

skholla 10-22-2013 05:37 PM

Good deals on the last model retinas...

I think you're in the wrong thread.

Ah since this thread was bumped up...

I finally turned to the dark side two weeks ago and retired my old Alienware M11xR3 for the 13 inch Haswell Retina MacBook Pro.

Loving the new laptop, especially the display, and also OS X. Now I understand why Apple is slowly taking market share away from Microsoft.

Simply Computing.

skholla 11-09-2013 11:05 AM

Macstation or Simply for trades, or buy new and sell your old one on consignment at The Mac Market. I've done so many times, Rick is great to deal with.

theevilslave 11-09-2013 01:23 PM

I just made an amazing discovery the other day.$Did you know that you could increase/decrease brightness and volume by quarters?

Alt+shift+volume/brightness
My mind was blown.:dizzy:

There are so many mac hacks. There are websites dedicated to them... go search!!

just to clarify, you've done consignment many times?

and what do you guys do to erase everything in a way that people can't dig up CC info or passwords and stuff.

skholla 11-10-2013 07:23 AM

I've sold a couple iMacs, power macs, and a few MacBooks with the Mac market. Always worked out well.

To wipe your data reinstall OS X from the disc, recovery partition or home made boot stick (google disk maker x). Before you start the install go the the utilities menu and open disk utility, select secure erase, a 3 pass should do fine...

So what skin or case do you guys use?

I'm looking for a clear skin or a case that is very thin and transparent. Recommendations?

BrRsn 11-24-2013 06:30 PM

^ I use the speck transparent case -- I'm on my second one.
If you drop your macbook while inside your bag a lot .. the case tends to break lol.
But .... both times my case broke my macbook was completely unscathed, so replacing a $50 case didn't hurt that much

Btw, if you do get the speck I recommend it because they leave a small gap in between the case and the macbook pro itself, so if a small piece of dirt/debris gets in, it can't chafe and scratch the hell out of your unibody.

Another option is the Moshi Iglaze -- I've been thinking about buying it if I break my current case (which I probably will...)

I always went bare with my Powerbooks and MacBooks until a couple years ago, then used a matte black Speck shell case. It looked pretty cool but added some serious weight (approx 1 pound), after a year I ditched the case, rather have a few scratches over extra weight.

I never understood those cases either. None of my MacBook Pro's or Air's have been scratched up.
Get a proper laptop bag with a separate padded compartment and only keep the Macbook in there.

I've been really tempted to sell my Early 2011 MBP 13" to get a Haswell MBA 11" just to shed some weight cuz I take it with me to school everyday but Macbooks seem to have pretty bad resale value. I probably will get $800 max for it which is such a huge loss

LOL Macbook have poor resale value? Maybe you should see windows laptop. after 2 years you are lucky to get half of what you pay for and that's for laptop that's over $1200. If it is a cheap one don't expect to get anything.

kevin7352 11-25-2013 12:07 PM

It's not as bad as windows laptops, you're right but I can't justify losing $500 on the MBP especially when there's nothing wrong with it. Which sucks cuz I really want the MBA. Suggestions?
