Is my GPU about to die?

I've had the recall issue on this MBP before and they fixed it but now this is happening :( I'm not sure if it falls under the same issue. It's a MBP 15" 2011

nabs 05-02-2016 07:16 PM

^^^

It comes up under a quality issue for MBP 15 2011. They replaced my logic board for free. Happened to me 3 months ago or so.

ForbiddenX 05-02-2016 07:28 PM

Will they still replace it even though they've already repaired it for the same issue?

Actually not the same issue but they replaced the logic board already :(.

During startup progress bar stops halfway then solid grey screen displays. Issue persist in safe mode + recovery mode as well
This time it's just the green bars. I guess it's not the same but totally sucks.

BrRsn 05-05-2016 02:46 PM

^Shitty.

I'd take it back to apple.
They replaced my logic board then my screen started acting up, so they replaced that too. Can't complain

New Macbook Pros announced today: Apple announces new MacBook Pro with touch strip - The Verge

TouchBar is really interesting

Sir_Loin 10-27-2016 10:47 AM

$300 USD increase for a OLED touch strip lol.

ForbiddenX 10-27-2016 11:10 AM

Yea I was waiting out to get a new MBP for these but I think I'm just going to get a refurb.

Price is just too outrageous $4.5K for the 15" with apple care and taxes :\.

After thinking about it more, I usually have my macbook on my stand with a keyboard + mouse so I'd really only ever use the Touchbar when I'm not working on my desk.

touch bar actually looks very handy...good work Cook et al

Technically they only raised the price by ~U$100. The U$1999 basic 15" model didn't have a GPU. For the GPU, it was the U$2499 mid-tier model. And if you build the now basic model with 512GB SSD to be a fair comparison, it's only U$2599, which is not bad really.

Also, Canada is now the cheapest place to buy rMBP. The 2999CAD is just a tad under 2250USD.

Got my refurb the other day. Pretty happy with it so far, definetely beats my old MBP 2011. Was worth the upgrade for me.

Even though the CPU and GPU are a few generations old, I don't think I'd notice too much of difference now for the type of development and work that I do. Maybe when I'm editing photos and videos but def would beat my 2011.

Hoping this lasts me as long as my 2011 MBP.

Armind 11-03-2016 12:14 PM

Waiting for an update that's worth upgrading from the first retina display MBP.

Still running good with 16gb of ram.

Razor Ramon HG 11-03-2016 12:23 PM

Tried out the keyboard at RC.

Keyboard is frustrating to type on from three minutes of usage. Many mistakes on TypeRacer. Definitely need adjusting. Your error rate will go up by at least double.

I've never really liked the butterfly keyboards. Tried them out as well but most of the time when I'm doing real work I use my poker. Which is also another reason why I thought I might make full use of that touchbar, it seems nice when I'm on my couch or a cafe, but if I want to get any real work done I'm hooked to an external monitor and my keyboard/mouse.

roverT 11-03-2016 04:31 PM

Yeah I use my Logitech illuminated keyboard and external monitor when I'm doing serious work. I reckon it'll take some time to get used to typing on a new MBP keyboard but I'm sure it'll work out with practice.

I was just looking at all the MBP 13" 2015 refurbs and they are all just about gone. Left are the old 2012 with DVD drives and prices that seem to be stupid high for what they are. LOL

RickyTan3 11-03-2016 10:59 PM

I just picked up a 13 inch Pro for now non-touch id.
I may opt in for a smaller laptop due to travelling. Thats what I am only using the laptop for.

So far the typing is similar to the Imac Keyboard.

initial testing of the screen is that its very nice, not sure if they changed anything but it seems similar to my 5k Imac. The large oversized trackpad is fucking awesome, makes my old macbook feel tiny.

threezero 11-04-2016 07:37 AM

Been waiting for an upgrade for my first gen retina mbp. So very very frustrate that Apple remove ports and MagSafe on their PRO line up too. Yes yes I can use adapters. I don't need a upgrade that bad to buy 1x adapter for all the places I use my mbp at.

roverT 11-04-2016 08:15 AM

The new changes won't be for everyone. But this change will force all electronic manufacturers to use the USB-C format so that in a year or two, this MacBook change will be for a larger number of people than now.

Nabatron 11-04-2016 08:34 AM

removing the magsafe, and all the ports and just adding usb c for everything is just retarded...

Armind 11-04-2016 08:50 AM

Big fan of magsafe.

inb4 $60 adapter.

ForbiddenX 11-04-2016 09:10 AM

It does suck they removed magsafe, it's saved me countless of times from my macbook falling off my coffee table or dinner table. Also the Griffin adapter is only $40 :troll: https://griffintechnology.com/us/bre...-c-power-cable

I think it will get much better once UBS-C is the standard. If I had the new LG Monitors at work, I could plug in all the peripheral's I use (admittedly probably using a USB -> USB-C hub) and all I would need is the SINGLE USB-C from the monitor to provide power, as well as all of my peripherals.

Right now I'm plugging in about 5 cables into my macbook everyday.
