I thought it would be interesting to let you guys know about this, redditor tested protein powders for actual protein content submitted by users in closed packets.

Guys! A Redditor just finished lab tests on a bunch of protein powder brands! - Bodybuilding.com Forums

Original reddit topic: Offering broscience service: I'll test your protein powders : Fitness

This deserves a bump, it's pretty important. If a protein is cheaper than it should be, like the shit at costco for instance, it is garbage.

And the plot thickens... The worst brand on the tests claimed that these tests are baseless, and submitted a lab test of their own... but the lab they used is either not real, or owned by themselves, because the website and domains are hosted by the same people

Anything over 70% in this guy's tests is fine, because the protein he used is not always 100% soluble. If the powder didn't dissolve 100%, some of it would have been left out of the test.

American Pure Whey, major WTF

I seriously hope they start to regulate the quality of fitness supps.

Verdasco 06-13-2012 07:10 AM

sorry but i am unable to check the document because i am currently in beijing..... can anyone give an insight if the grid has isoflex and this other protein company that has a picture of an ice cream on the label? :concentrate:

SkinnyPupp 06-13-2012 07:21 AM

They didn't test that one. But only four of them were really bad, and only one of those was an actual brand you'd think would be good. The lesson here isn't "ON is better than Isopure" the lesson is "don't buy cheap crap or store brand stuff you have never heard about before"

When my brother get's home tomorrow I'm going to see what recovery drink he gave me last week. It tasted like watermelon, and felt pretty good. I'm usually sore the day after hockey, but that stuff toned it down to the point where I was ready to play again. I'm amazed as to how some of these sports supplements actually work.

I started taking the Activ-X multivitamin recently, along with 2400mg of fish oil daily, and a night time dose of Serapeptase. The first few days of the multi made me jittery, probably because of the high B12 levels. It has Ginseng and cordiceps too. But an odd side effect is that my body now quits on me. I'm putting in so much time working, playing, and/or working out in order to work and play harder, and the body shuts down. Yesterday I was a fatigued mess, and was in bed at 9pm. Today I'm feeling better, but shit, I could have used another hour or two of sleep. I'm finding now that sleep is better for recovery than any pill.

Is it common to feel good enough to really push your body for days on end, then crash hard?

XplicitLuder 06-13-2012 10:31 AM

will report back today on how craze went. picked it up today and pretty stoked to try it :concentrate:

Totally normal. The harder you push yourself, the more you will burn out. The way to get around it is to eat more.

vafanculo 06-13-2012 02:54 PM

Can someone pls school me on what supps I should look at?

Main goal is to lose body fat, and build muscle. I'm hearing a lot about test supplements?

Kind of a new world for me.. Hearing a lot about ZMA? What exactly is this and what does it do? Should I even bother if my main goal is to shed the fat away first?

GGnoRE 06-13-2012 03:01 PM

If your new to the Supp world, I suggest you start with the following:

Whey protein, creatine, BCAA and multi-vitamin.

I wouldn't get into the fat burners or the test boosters until you really know what you are spending your money on.

First things first if u r wanting to lose fat look at diet

vafanculo 06-13-2012 03:33 PM

Thanks guys.. My diet has been in check lately. I'm happy with my weight loss.. But I want thicker back, fuller arms, etc.. I guess you can't really cut weight and bulk up at same time?

Won't creatine make me fatter?

creatine gives u water weight, allows u to lift more. It doesnt make u fatter, cuz it makes u work out harder and pushs u more so u will be losing fat instead.

XplicitLuder 06-13-2012 06:02 PM

anyways..what can i say about craze. i'd give it a 8/10 just for the lack of better taste LOL apart from that, felt more concentrated and defintely had more power to lift more. At the beginning while stretching i got REALLY warm, so i guess it makes you sweat more :ilied: right nowtho im EXHAUSTED...dunno if its the lack of sleep the last 2 days (gf issues been keeping me up) and cus i felt so energized today i pushed even harder. so maybe its a crash effect..or maybe its other things i noticed. Id pretty much compared this to jack3d lol and i loved jack3d<3

whey protein isn't needed if you have other protein sources, BCAA's either, and multi's in summer are pointless if you're getting enough vegetables

In reality none of those are needed because they're just supplements but imo whey, creatine, multi-vitamins are on the top of the list

SkinnyPupp 06-13-2012 09:23 PM

I don't consider whey a supplement, it's a food.
