33 more people charged.
Quote:

VANCOUVER -- Another 33 people have been charged in the Stanley Cup Riot in Vancouver in June of 2011.
The B.C. Criminal Justice Branch says the latest accused include 23 adults and 10 young persons, and some of the newest charges were sworn as far back as last October, but are only being revealed now.
In addition, the branch has identified six more people who were charged in June of last year, but whose names were held back until now.
Most of the charges include taking part in a riot, mischief, and break and enter, while some people are also charged with assault and having their faces masked.
So far, charges have been approved against 194 people, and 133 of them have pled guilty, with 65 already having been sentenced.

11 Stanley Cup rioters face further charges after violating terms of sentences

A former University of B.C. student who received the lightest sentence of all adult Stanley Cup rioters sentenced so far is scheduled to return to court Friday to answer a new charge of breaching conditions of that sentence.

Camille Cacnio, 23, is one of seven adults charged with breaching court-ordered conditions after either pleading guilty to or facing riot-related charges, Vancouver police said Wednesday.

Four young offenders from the riot have also breached their conditions.

Cacnio, who was caught laughing on camera as she looted two pairs of men’s dress pants from a tuxedo shop, last September received a suspended sentence — which meant no jail but conditions that included a yearlong 10 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew, known as house arrest.

“Many of those same people who showed such disrespect for our community are demonstrating the same disrespect for the courts by violating the conditions of the sentences they received,” Supt. Dean Robinson said.

“We strongly suspect that if we had the resources to look more closely at the problem that we would find that the numbers are even higher,” he said.

Vancouver police said its riot investigators are now focusing on ensuring 42 rioters, 27 of them adults, abide by their house arrest conditions or undertakings to appear in court.

With the help of neighbouring police departments, VPD will be checking whether they’re at home when they’re supposed to be — the most “efficient” way of ensuring conditions are being met, police said.

Cacnio was charged in January with the breach of her conditions and pleaded not guilty through her lawyer the same month, but details of the charge weren’t made public.

She is scheduled for trial on the breach Friday in Vancouver provincial court, according to court documents.

Her lawyer, Jason Tarnow, told court in January her defence would be “lawful excuse.”

Crown prosecutor Daniel Porte at the time said he would call one or two witnesses.

Police also said Wednesday they had laid a breach charge against Armando Jose Garcia, 19, of Surrey, who is one of several men charged with the alleged assault of a Good Samaritan during the June 15, 2011, riot that caused $4 million in damage after the Vancouver Canucks lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final.

Garcia, who is scheduled for trial in December on assault and riot charges, is set to appear in Vancouver provincial court on Thursday over the breach, which police allege happened on March 23, 2012. He will also attend a pretrial conference.

Others rioters or riot suspects facing breaches are Spencer Kirkwood, Dustin Wade Anderson, Atabak Nosrat, Timothy Lau and Derek King, police said in a release.

The four young offenders charged with breaching conditions can’t be named. One youth is facing six breaches.

Police recommended charges against 315 adult and youth riot suspects in total; 133 have pleaded guilty and 65 of those have been sentenced so far, according to a Crown spokesman.

Crown dropped cases against 32 suspects and another 61 formally charged have yet to enter pleas or have pleaded not guilty.

Crown is continuing to process the remaining 89 cases to determine whether there’s enough evidence to approve further charges.

That girl needs to move out of this city/province after she's done with this fiasco. No one is gonna hire her. Participate in a riot and turn yourself in. Fine. Deal with the consequences like a good person and learn from your mistakes. We assumed she would but damn. Apparently her real character is showing up based on these allegations.

Gumby 03-14-2013 10:42 AM

Her real character was shown right when she posted her blog entry!

Stanley Cup rioter wants media, public banned from courtroom | News1130

Quote:

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The lawyer for a convicted Stanley Cup rioter accused of breaching conditions of her sentence wants reporters and the public banned from the courtroom.

Camille Cacnio was caught stealing two pairs of pants and a necktie from Black and Lee during the riot in June, 2011.

Her lawyer argues banning people from the courtroom would be in the “interests of public morals.” He’s concerned his client’s medical condition will be reported.

He says Cacnio has become the face of the riot and has been bullied.

The judge calls this an “unusual application” and is open to hearing more. Cacnio’s lawer says they can’t have a public ban, they’d settle for a publication ban instead.

You kidding? Not even convicted murderers get that much.

Then again, with the way our justice system works...

adambomb 03-15-2013 02:22 PM

According to the The Province, she was pulled over at a roadblock at 10:20pm. 20 minutes after her curfew kicked in. She's only allowed out past curfew for medical reasons. I'm curious what medical reason requires you to be out past 10pm. I can't think of any drop-in medical clinics that are open at that time. :suspicious:

sonick 03-15-2013 02:58 PM

Wow, just sounds disrespectful in general

Cacnio, who was accompanied by her parents, was rebuked by the judge for bringing a coffee into court. And she had to be called back into the court when she left the room before it was formally dismissed for the lunch break.

Also, live tweet of her hearing. Bolded for hilarity.

Susan Lazaruk ‏@SusanLazaruk

Rioter Camille Cacnio pulled over by VPD roadblock b/c her headlights were off. She said she had no drinks. Officer smelled faint alcohol.

She was asked to take breathalyzer, blew within legal limit -- .009. Her riot conviction, curfew came up on police database, arrested.

Officer asked her why she said she had no alcohol and she said she had had 2 margaritas 3 hours earlier but "didn't think that counted."

Cacnio's car towed b/c boyfriend Rob didn't have a DL. Cacnio was swearing at BF from back of cop car, blaming him for car being towed.

When officer testified about Cacnio swearing at boyfriend, she screwed up her face with a whaaaat!?! look. (lol wut)

Cacnio was in skirt, mesh stockings, looked like she was going out for night on town, not night on couch, officer testified.

Officer said Cacnio didn't appear to be in medical distress. She didn't request help, BF didn't request help. Psychological distress? No.

Cacnio said she was going to Burnaby, officer said. Her lawyer said she was going to get some medication.

GLOW 03-15-2013 03:10 PM

medical reason was that a tree was in poor health and she had to give it cpr....

Gumby 03-15-2013 03:23 PM

This girl has issues...

But out of curiosity, you're not allowed to bring drinks into the courtroom?
