First guy charged pleads guilty, and gets an absolute discharge. Fuck I wish there was a bigger "seriously" face than this.

Before everyone jumps in on this, the judge has sentencing parameters from past law. He must consider the individual(not mob) impact and probability to re-offend.

The important thing is the guilty verdict allows the owner to sue with civil action.

Cacnio finally charged. Looks like her "apology" wasn't enough :troll:

Two more charged in Stanley Cup riot; 30 people now facing charges - Yahoo! News

"..VANCOUVER - The two more people have been charged in the Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver, including a woman who issued a lengthy apology for her conduct last June.

Vancouver say 21-year-old Dustin Anderson of Burnaby is accused of taking part in a riot and assault, while Camille Cacnio (KAK'-nee-oh) of Richmond, who's also 21, is charged with taking part in a riot and break and enter.

After she was identified as a riot suspect, Cacnio issued a public apology for her actions, saying she takes full responsibility for what she did and is ready to accept the consequences.

Thirty people are now facing a total of 77 charges related to the riot, which broke out after the Vancouver Canucks lost the Stanley Cup final to the Boston Bruins June 15.

Police say their investigation is continuing and they expect hundreds of people to be charged eventually.

Last week, the first guilty plea was entered as 20-year-old Ryan Dickinson of Coquitlam admitted to participating in the violence.

New wave of riot charges sought brings total accused to 100 - News1130

Quote:

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - One hundred people have now been accused by Vancouver Police of taking part in the Stanley Cup riot.

The department has come out with a third round of charge recommendations. Sixty-three new charges have been recommended against 20 suspected rioters. A total of 278 charges have been recommended since Oct. 31.

Integrated teams of officers are still looking for suspects.

VPD Insp. Les Yeo says the riot website has been a big help, and promises more suspects' photos will be uploaded in the coming weeks. They issued a warning Tuesday that police have not given up, even seven months later.

"We have our investigators working on a fourth round and I can tell you those charges are coming along very well," says Yeo. "It won't be long until those charges are [recommended]."

So far, only 30 people have had charges against them approved. Eighty-five men and 15 women are accused, and their average age is 21. The youngest suspect is a 15 year old boy.

Eight-two per cent of those accused are not from Vancouver.

Impact on the courts

Can BC's already strained court system handle a third wave of accused Stanley Cup rioters?

Two months after the preliminary round of charge recommendations, judges are still dealing with the first appearances of the first accused.

Many haven't even appeared in court yet, but Yeo is not worried about burdening the courts.

"We talk to Crown daily," he explains. "I've talked to Crown probably three times in the last two days and I'm confident that they will work through those charges. My job is to get those charges [recommended]."

He can not confirm when more charges will actually be approved.

By the numbers

Charges

• 100 charges recommended for participating in a riot
• 1 count of participating in a riot recommended against every suspect
• 82 charges for mischief recommended
• 50 charges of break and enter recommended

26 are from Surrey
• 18 are from Vancouver

• 4 are from North Vancouver
• 3 are from Vancouver Island
• 3 are from Port Coquitlam
• 2 are from Coquitlam
• 2 are from New Westminster
• 2 are from Abbotsford
• 2 are from Delta
• 2 are from Langley

First person convicted in Stanley Cup riot Ryan Dickinson, 20, sentenced to 17 months

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Stanley Cup rioter Ryan Dickinson has been sentenced to 17 months in jail after pleading guilty to taking part in the June 15th smashup and breaking a court order.

The 20-year-old is the first person to plead guilty in the riot.

The Crown was asking for Dickinson to spend up to two years in jail while the defence wanted half of that.

Hundreds of charges have been laid against dozens of other people accused of participating in the riot.

So a guy I know who kills his best friend drunk driving gets 2.5 years for essentially man slaughter and this guy gets 1.5 years...

That's fucked.

Gridlock 02-16-2012 02:31 PM

Oh, you can wrap a whole bunch of justice related facepalms to this.

On the news right now, the guy that struck and killed the good samaritan in Pitt Meadows can't even be brought into a court room, and is at risk of having his case thrown out for taking too long...but we have room for rioters.

Spending god knows how much money on that computer lab in Indiana...while we're broke and cutting money from the justice system.

I am not saying let them walk, in any way. Thankfully, we're seeing some justice, but 17 months? That should teach the next guy to plead innocent.

Here's a better article...

Vancouver Stanley Cup rioter gets 17 months in jail - British Columbia - CBC News

He was already on bail for another offense, and was blamed as an instigator.

It's not fucked, that's how the laws is once the riot act has been read to rioters.

If you read the riot act,it clearly states, any crimes committed after the riot act has been read, people charged could face life in prison,so in my point of view, white trash boy got off easy.
