The same could be said about BBM

Although BBM's popularity is due to the fact that they were the first one to have such an app.

But like I said any many others have as well, iMessage needs to be it's own separate app with much more features. I'll stick with Kakao for now.

But can someone explain this to me, how come native iphone apps like iMessage and mail that get the incoming messages update on their app right away while 3rd-party apps update AFTER you open the app?

I got the same thing as you. Says 14th but in the e-mail it says 19th

For people who don't have a legit copy of WhatsApp Messenger, it is free right now in the app store.

I find that people only care about encryption when it's a feature they have. For instance, if it wasn't encrypted, you wouldn't see people going "I'm never going to use iMessage, because it's not encrypted"

For day to day chatting, what do you need encryption for? It's not like you're using it for your banking or other sensitive information (at least, you shouldn't be).

When BBM has an outage in service it makes worldwide news. When Whatsapp has an outage the only place you hear about it is in some forum or tech blog.

BBM is popular because you can trust it (well, up until this week). :)

There's a reason why the enterprise likes BBM - it's secure and encrypted.

Not worried one bit. The same could be said of Gmail, Google Docs, Dropbox or any other similar service.

The big difference is iCloud is sandboxed. The easiest way to explain it is if you have 10 Apps storing documents & data in the cloud then you will have 10 secured "directories" on iCloud. App #1 only has access to data in directory #1. Even if a malicious App made it onto Apple's servers and you installed it on your phone, it still can't access data in "directories" other than the one it's been assigned.

How do you change between imessage and text? Or does imessage have priority?
Also, so many of my friends have iphone4, most of them dont even bother to update.. Makes me think like wtf is wrong with u. And no its not that their phones are unlocked.

bluejays 10-13-2011 06:51 AM

iMessage is in the text app, if you are texting people without iOS5 then the send button will be green; if they have iOS5 the send button will be in blue

hotjoint 10-13-2011 07:15 AM

So from what I'm reading, if I backup my 3g, when I get my iphone 4s, I can restore from backup with all the info I had back up from my 3g?

We saw the 'virtual conversation' thing with Cleverbot already. Hell, I remember virtual chatting with AI back in the BBS days.

That this piece of software, that would work on any phone, is being touted as a huge feature for the 4S is such :failed:

It is 'neat' to play around with for a bit, but seeing him try to dictate simple messages and add calendar entries was just painful. It would be so much faster just to type it, or if it had a simpler 'push to talk' recording interface... It took him over a minute to send "I hope you're feeling better, I'll see you tomorrow"

Ride 10-13-2011 07:39 AM

another important feature thats been added finally deleting individual callers from caller list

Another q about iMessage since my friends don't have iOs5 yet so I can't test it.
Does it show whether they read your message or not like BBM? or Just the receipt if enabled

G 10-13-2011 12:57 PM

^It shows when they read it IF they/you allow it in the iMessage settings.

bluejays 10-13-2011 12:58 PM

^ yup, shows if it's delivered or read and at what time
