My cousin sells this exact product (range from VGA to HD quality ones, some with GPS location record built-in)... but his minimum is 50sets/order I think.

I can figure out more details if there's enough interest.

Make sure we get this cleared by admins first... or down comes the banhammer

Hopefully RCubed chimes in, I wanna know which system he has. I like the lat and long feature of his.

In my experience with doing one on RS, you have to trust the people who are even interested in the item you're doing. To do my mirror one was SO tedious its not even funny. Heads up to the guy who does end up setting one up.

Thankfully, we can quickly figure this out by searching the member's post.

It may sound unfair the new guys but it's a precaution that most should take when considering organizing a group buy.

All the group buys I've had on RS have been successful ones, however, it is mainly due to dealing with people that are regulars on this forum.

for the group buys i've organized on vcc, it's always involved a non-refundable deposit. this has been great to weed out the flakers at an early stage. everyone loves to jump on board when it seems like a great idea but tend to bail just before payment comes up.

As Death2Theft states, they are horrible when it starts to get dark, and I'm not too impressed with the video it takes during the day.

the problem with cameras like go pro that doesn't have the auto on feature, is that it is a bitch to have to manually turn the cam on every time you use it or have to turn it off after you park. im actually looking to upgrade cuz mine doesn't have the auto on/ shut off feature

yes as mentioned, theres a few flaws with the gopro hd

1: its not auto on/off
2: it doesnt record over the files
3: it used to battery powered only, but now new firmware update has enabled the gopro to be charged while recording
4: it doesnt have screen to show what is recording so its a pita to aim correctly

although most of the flaws can be fixed, its just a pita to set it up and get it running properly, not to mention the car suction cup is HUGE

I'm guessing the ContourHD or ContourGPS has the same limitations then? Was looking into that a few months back.

I think we should change the name of this thread to 'ATTN: RCubed'

Matsuda 07-27-2011 11:16 AM

I'll message him lol

RCubed 07-27-2011 11:23 AM

I'm at lunch right now. Lemme get back to the office and I'll post some info. =)

RCubed 07-27-2011 12:08 PM

Im running KCI communications black box.
Smart Black Box | High Resolution Mobile Event Data Recorder
All in one Camera, GPS, 3-Axis Shock sensor.
It automatically deletes older data when you run out of memory card space.
I guess you could wire it to always on, but I only have my on when the car is on.

Heres what the unit looks like mounted.

We are doing a Group Buy on BCMazda3 from Autolismo. You have to register to see the group buys section though.

Mods, if this post is considered advertising please feel free to remove it with my apologies.

The model I am getting is about $110, has auto on/off feature, records in HD, has a 2.5 TFT flip-down screen, and has a viewing angle of 150 degrees IIRC.

^ Maybe they can extend the group buy to RS too?

CP.AR 07-27-2011 01:05 PM

^+1 autolismo is local too so we can just pick em up

Any sample videos for the Autolismo one?

kuri 07-29-2011 09:47 AM

Looks like the Contour HD is on sale for $150 at FutureShop and Best Buy right now. Is it a bad choice compared to the Autolismo one?

CP.AR 07-29-2011 10:36 AM

the Contour one is in HD so 1080p recording, but it seems more for using outside the car

I have been tempted to get one of these for a long time just not sure on which one to get....I really like the GPS and time stamp intergration

DJ Milk 07-30-2011 01:37 PM

I got the same one as RCubed except I got a 90 degree lens instead. The wider 170 degree lens can get more in a shot but the images looks too distorted for my liking. Here's a video I posted after I installed it in my car.

I think I paid almost $400 CDN after shipping, brokerage, and taxes. I also bought the "Fusebox Power Supply" so I can hardwire it to the car. I bought it from the same place RCubed got his. He posted the place a few post above but here it is again Smart Black Box

hk20000 07-31-2011 06:31 AM

Here's what it'd look like if you put a Vado HD (40 dollars from NCIX when they had it on sale) on your dash and dash down the race track.

With that said, if it doesn't have rolling memory feature and no G meter it's strictly a hobbyists' camera....But for $40 it has wide enough angle and clean enough picture for me to not complain about it. The mount is just a suction cup mount located at where my GPS usually goes.

DiiCii 08-02-2011 09:59 PM

^down for that! :D
