#of IR LEDs is just a gimmick. Your wind screen will absorb most of it, and it won't project far enough to illuminate things down range. You still need good driving lights to record at night.

Here's a video of of the KCI Black Box in the rain I recorded a few days ago. The semi swerve into the path of the firetruck on highway 91 and hit it.

there are cheaper models of course
but like anything in life, you want better quality, you have to pay more.

That one looks quite nice. Small and discrete.

:yuno: so expensive

Sky_High 11-15-2011 02:49 AM

These ones looks so much better:

2.7" IR Dual Lens Dashboard Dash Camera Car DVR+GPS logger,Wide 140° | eBay

5MP IR Car Vehicle Dashboard Rotable Camera DVR Cam | eBay

HD 720p IR Car Dashboard Camera DVR Lens Rotate 200° | eBay

Too bad they can't make one of those without the screen, so it can reduce the overall size even more.

EmperorIS 11-15-2011 03:27 AM

anyone find one where you can just attach to the back of the rear view mirror?

not that bad

godwin 11-15-2011 04:23 PM

You can remove the IR filter on the front of the camera if you drive mostly at night. For camera of the same size and price I think Hero2 is has the best night performance out there.

to the guys sporting dash cams - are you guys not scared that someone might break into your car and jack the cam? or do you religiously hide it when parked?

kaka I noticed that everyone ignored your question on the other page too! But I'm pretty sure that everyone else just leaves theirs mounted when parked as the more expensive ones are small and well hidden. When I get the one from Diicii, I will be custom attaching it to my passport 8500 X50 radar detector and will be taking it off everytime I park as I normally do now :)
