UPS always charges for brokerage for any items crossing the border... be ready to bend over and spread em... its so stupid. not a YMMV situation, its just something they always do.

Fuck you TEAVANA and your "free shipping".

Can I just refuse the package and have it sent back then?

nabs 12-19-2013 08:54 PM

You can refuse the shipping, they will try to deliver twice. BUT no guarantees you'll get your money back from TEAVANA

Did some searching.
There's endless customers on their facebook page bitching about how their items still haven't been shipped...etc. But no one seems to ever had any problems with brokerage fees.

My tracking shows its a "UPS Standard".

Is this the right chart I should be looking at? Given my order is under $20....I think I'm still safe?
UPS: Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada

You are NEVER safe from UPS.

They wanted me to pay $67 in fees for a $20 item. Even the driver thought it was ridiculous and told me to refuse it.

I did, they sent it back, and I called the selling website, told them what happened, and asked them to ship it again by USPS - they did, and I didn't pay anything.

Also, there is a "method" on RFD to bypass the brokerage fees by just importing the things yourself.

It does require some phone calls and visits to a customs office on your part though, so you choose the lesser of two evils.

Weren't you making $300~ a day as a consultant, sitting inside watching tv, etc?

I quit/got fired.

Told them the job wasn't for me because I wasn't doing a whole lot of anything and asked if I go into doing rig ins. They informed me they hired me for that one job and let me go.

Also mg1 I appreciate the offers, but if I can't pull myself out of this, it's darwins way of not letting me continue.

Anyone with Rogers have their 3G connection going on and off?

I have my fido internet connection going quite unstable since yesterday. Usually a quick turning off and back on of data resolves the problem for awhile before it starts up again for me

Grand Opening at Hard Rock today. Limited pins to first 200 people. I'm #32. Opening is at 5:00 pm, LOL. The pins will be worth a lot when the place shuts down in three months, hee hee. Btw, I have a fair collection of pins. Got them on that cross continental road trip I took a few years back. I didn't have the downtown Vancouver one, so I had to get one on eBay.

Maybe this video deserves it's own thread but since one of the most recent topics was on the topic of handouts, what do you guys feel about this?

I think it just reflects badly on all Chinese people because outsiders aren't going to be splitting hairs when they see this, they'll paint all Chinese people the same way which is a shame.

It's also a cultural thing since you see mostly older Chinese people do it. Since older generations are to be respected and "can't do no wrong" you get situations where assholes take advantage of that.

fliptuner 12-20-2013 02:57 PM

You don't have to look any further than our own food banks to see people taking advantage of people's generosity and literally taking food and clothes away from the truly needy.

It's fucking disgusting.

This is why some people band together and actually go to the DTES to give their donations directly.

Was just at the Hard Rock. Not a fan. More of a tourist joint than a gambler's casino. Maybe I'll come back in a few months, when the novelty wears off.

Did you catch the fireworks? Pretty impressive, but only because they were detonated on the rooftop of the parkade. What did you think of the hostesses? I kind of liked the chick in the mini skirt made of records. Free food was a nice bonus. I got a free Hard Rock t-shirt and the limited edition pin.

I go to that casino only when they send me free slot play and other promotions. In fact, last month, I won 200 bucks for filling out a survey. I cashed out as soon as I got the card. Apparently, they give these cards out often. The casino doesn't really lose, as most people gamble it away and then some. Not me. I took the money and ran, hee hee.

I've never seen that casino this full. Like you said, the novelty will wear out.

fliptuner 12-20-2013 11:12 PM

I didn't go til 10pm or so. Most of the fanfare was pretty much over.

fliptuner 12-21-2013 05:32 AM

On one hand, it sucks that winter has only just begun. :okay:

But.....

The days only get longer from here on in. :alonehappy:

-_- TV I wanted to buy was a $150 cheaper a few days ago @ best buy during a no-tax sale than it will be on Boxing Day

I missed the sale, when I had found out about it best buys website was down for maintenance and when it came live again the sale was over

Speed2K 12-22-2013 12:11 AM

^which TV & how much was it. I can keep an eye out for it & if I see it go on sale somewhere I'll let you know!

StylinRed 12-22-2013 12:42 AM

Hey thanks! It's the Sony 70" was $2049 a few days ago, on boxing day it'll be $2199 -_-

Speed2K 12-22-2013 09:52 AM

The Sony KDL70R550A? Nice!

StylinRed 12-22-2013 10:42 AM

yeah that's the one! i should have checked online earlier that day during the no-tax sale :/

I may go with the 65" it's a bit smaller but the tv is a better model only because i feel cheated from the higher "sale" price with the 70" :lol but it's $1999 that's not even a Boxing Day deal it was on sale in store for that price last month

Speed2K 12-22-2013 01:41 PM

So I guess you don't think it's worth waiting for the 4K stuff to come down in price?

StylinRed 12-22-2013 04:45 PM

^^^ I was thinking about it but there just isn't any 4K content yet except for some youtube videos and some sony online videos, the bitrate for those will make the 4K resolution moot + there is some Hz or some other issue (can't recall exactly) which makes 3D not the best under the current 4K sets so by the time 4K sets will be worth it (content/tech wise) I'll upgrade again then

I went into Henderson Place earlier and they've got an Openboxco store and they've got that same 70" Sony for $1799 I almost went for it but I can't remember what the reviews are like for openboxco so I figured I'd wait and see

I'm also looking at the 65" set (W802A or something) I was looking at them side by side earlier today and the 65" clearly has the better picture but I like the larger size of the 70" it's only 5" but there's such a huge difference

Hondaracer 12-22-2013 04:51 PM

The 70" samsung 4k tv at BB was $22,000 lol don't think it's a matter of waiting for the price to drop on that size

Don't forget, at Future Shop and Best Buy you can negotiate. I've personally done so successfully. I'd ask to speak to a manager and tell them you'll only pay the previous sale price, I'd bet they accept the offer.
