Been to Lake Louise a few times and stayed at the Chateau last year.
Lake Louise is an iconic place, so the room prices are going to be like staying in HK with a view of the harbour, something like that (except Fairmont is the only choice).
At Christmas, the lake is going to be frozen over, so the view (in my opinion at least) is less iconic than during the spring/summer months.
Also, daylight is minimal.
With that in mind, if you really want to stay there, consider maybe a room facing the forest instead of the lake? I'm not sure a lakeview room is worth it tbh.
Also, it's an old hotel, the rooms are tiny and average.
So yeah, if I were to do what you are suggesting, I'd go for the cheapest forest view room and then spend the day outdoors and in the hotel lounge, then save the room for just sleeping.
Since you mentioned walking around Banff (which is about 30 mins away from Lake Louise), why not stay in Banff instead? Banff Springs is iconic, or Rim Rock just down the street.

Banff itself is also an option, yes. Would be nice to re-visit the hot springs as I do like that as a unique winter activity. I remember as a kid dipping in the hot water until I was too hot, running out and getting cold from the snow then dipping right back into the hot water lol. I guess it's basically a Canadian Onsen experience but with snow.

There are three fairmonts out in the rockies.
1. Fairmont jasper, cool layout it’s more like a camping cabin.
2. Fairmont lake louise. Recently renovated, best location for views and skiing. $$$ though
3. Fairmont banff. Inside banff, old hotel kinda meh but historic.
Other good hotels are rim rock but closed for the summer.
I recommend kanasaski mountain lodge, book a massage therapist at the kananaski spa for subsidized entrance fee. It’s like the Scandinavie spa in whistler.

When Lake Louise freezes over, you can skate on it during the winter months or you can rent kayak/canoes during the Summer. Both great experiences IMO

I just got back from Jasper and it was surreal to see half the town and part of the Fairmont lodge backdrop burned. The locals are still hurting from what happened - thankfully most of the town is still around. Overall it was worth the visit to support them as they recover and rebuild.
Here's a view from the dock:
(the water is still so pretty)
And a photo of the charred remains in Maligne Canyon: |

There's no such thing as pictures of Brampton. Anybody who takes their phone out would have it immediately stolen.

We were put in a cabin rather than the main building and it faced out onto the golf course and it was just awesome. Had dinner outside one night and a reindeer walked right up to us:

And a photo of the charred remains in Maligne Canyon: | Jasper is truly one of the most incredible places in canada. I spent so much of my youth there. I remember my grandparents would drive me and a friend when we were like 13 to ride at marmot basin and just sit in the lodge and drink coffee and hot chocolate for like 7 hours while we'd go riding. The snowboard shop I worked at held a comp there every year. I got snuck into my first bar there at Petes at 15 years old. Had my first one night stand in that town. I haven't been there since the fire, but I hope the town can rebuild and keep the character that it has. Banff is incredible as well but so much more commercialized and touristy. Jasper is just a beautiful small town in one of the most beautiful places on earth and has so much more charm.

I dunno, I think if you ever get in a situation where ICBC is questioning whether you have business insurance or not following a collision, all they have to do is ask if you are writing off vehicle expenses for tax purposes. Because there's ultimately a gigantic paper trail that confirms vehicle use for business purposes, the risk of not having the proper insurance doesn't seem worth the reward to me. | You'd think, but I haven't heard of this happening to anyone. I understand that you're cautious and you're very well within your rights to do so. Just cause my clients or people that I know haven't been caught, doesn't mean they won't be ever.
Hell half the time ICBC threatens people about denying insurance when it's improperly classed - pleasure vs regular, but nothing actually goes through. Or when people commit fraud by "hitting an animal" and even if there is a significant amount of investigation and paper trail, there's no real consequence LOL. Or another example, a past personal tax client (self-employed) didn't pay his car insurance for over a year and got caught. He was issued a ticket from the PD. The ticket is cheaper than paying for insurance lol (he also tried to get us to expense this ticket - which fines and penalties are not eligible business expenses). You also don't really need to pay that ticket, if you don't have plans on renewing your license and plan to driving illegally, which he is by driving with no insurance anyway. Another example of this is someone who bought a car from me didn't have a license (suspended), still drives around, is known to police, but that's too low priority for police to be concerned about.
In regards to the paper trail, I doubt ICBC would have the authority to request that information from you. NIL, but I'd imagine they'd have to subpoena you for this information. To my knowledge, CRA is not interconnected with ICBC, with the exception of if you obviously provide a GST # for the exemption. But even then, to get that information from the CRA or to get the CRA to start an audit on this basis, would be unlikely. The CRA doesn't even have enough resources to staff phones anymore, let alone take responsibility of regular audit timelines. Quote:

Honestly those pics of TO encased in ice look pretty awesome.
Visited in the winter before it snowed with all the leafless trees however, was depressing AF.

This has been driving me nuts lately and I'm curious if anyone has noticed drivers doing this more often nowadays.
I feel like people have lost the idea of what the "right of way" rule is when on the road.
I've noticed that when I'm approaching an intersection on a green, looking to make a right turn, and another vehicle is within the intersection waiting to make a left, as I approach the intersection to make a right I have the right of way. I'm finding more often now drivers don't understand that rule and think that a car slowing down to take a right in their cue to go ahead and blast a left through the intersection.
I'm seeing it more and more and it's pissing me off, almost got smoked on the driver side a few days ago as a result of that crap.

All you need to do is not use your turn signals.
