I use a DIR655 which isn't that strong signal wise already and I don't really have wifi issues with the prime. Checking the serial# is probably the best method.

Roastpuff where did you get it from? Is the code c3? A review would be great! Also please provide feedback on the wifi and did you register your tfp for a free gps dongle?

I got it from work, London Drugs. C3 code (we have mostly C3, one C2 left which was returned by a customer).

I'll include wifi review in my impressions, and yes, I registered for the dongle. Free stuff is always good.

wtf...I just noticed a little glowing spot on my display, looks like a bright spot of light is shining through the lcd matrix. Definitely not a pixel issue.

bigzz786786 04-18-2012 12:34 PM

^dang, hope you can return it or resolve the issue.

has anyone purchased from staples? On the website it says for model numbrr C1, but that was the first batch,do you think maybe they just forgot to update the website?
i emailed them a couple days ago, but no reply

They probably didn't update the website. YMMV as you won't know what you're getting.

I ordered mine from Staples 2 weeks ago and it's a C1. If you're referring to "Model TF201-C1-GR-CBI", I don't think they've ever updated that.

There's no light bleed on mine, Wifi seems fine, but GPS is nonexistent indoors (haven't tried it outdoors though).

!MiKrofT 04-18-2012 05:30 PM

They all have GPS issues. But really GPS isn't meant to be used indoors so I don't know why everyone tests it indoors. Not saying you but in general a lot of ppl online seem to bash the gps cause they get nothing indoors and don't even bother testing it outside.

roastpuff 04-18-2012 10:41 PM

I ended up returning my TP.

The wifi being super-weak made it almost useless for me... sitting close to router and my phone is beating it in terms of wifi performance. If I go to my bedroom it keeps dropping connection because of low signal. Kinda sad...

bigzz786786 04-19-2012 06:55 PM

^lol i guess having the upgraded WiFi didnt help, or maybe ot was defective? Are you getting a replacement to see if it was just that one?

LuHua 04-26-2012 02:56 PM

Just got my gps dongle, testing it in a bit. Honestly though, it's too big to carry around all the time and it won't fit in the case.

Well, it helps. A lot. Used GPS Test app to see how it helps, went from 0 satellites in view to 8 in view and very usable. Now them main thing is the size of the damn thing and its power draw.

!MiKrofT 04-26-2012 11:17 PM

That was fast. It shouldn't drain that much more battery. Review online says it's hardly noticeable. Regarding it being big. Who needs to carry it around all the time with the gps attached? I might use it in the car which at that point wouldn't matter.

!MiKrofT 04-30-2012 12:56 PM

Just got my GPS dongle. Like LuHua it works great! However if I leave it connected all the time when not in use it causes random restarts. Hope a software update fixes this. Not too big a deal for me since I don't plan on using this as GPS anyways.

bigzz786786 04-30-2012 02:50 PM

I'm buying my prime from staples this weekend (employee discount) so far there have rarely been a return on the prime at the #3 location. Once I get it, I'll test the wifi comparing it to the tf101, galaxy tab 10.1 and the ipad2, all are owned by my friends, I'll test it about 30, 40 and 50 ft from my router and another test on the second floor(of course I'll delete all cookies, history and what not (already asked them if that was ok))

bigzz786786 05-06-2012 07:17 PM

i have a question, do i really need the extended warranty?

!MiKrofT 05-06-2012 07:30 PM

I've never bought nor ever needed extended warranty. Unless it's dirt cheap or the similar to visions' I wouldn't bother.

asian_XL 05-06-2012 09:22 PM

anyone finds the internal data transfer speed for this thing is slow as hell, wonder if they will speed things up in the upcoming models, I would pay more if it reads and writes 1/5 of a normal SSD would do.

bigzz786786 05-06-2012 10:06 PM

i got the extended 2 year protection plan/accidental plan. Meaning if i purposely drop it and breaks or throw it in a lake, then i get the full price i paid or a new prime, im just thinking if its worth it, i paid 130 for it. I too have never bought an extended warranty for anything, this is the first time

dyan 05-06-2012 10:10 PM

^
Extended warranties are almost never worth it.. it's 100% pure profit for the company you bought it off of. Unless you're those clumsy people and tend to destroy items.. even then not really worth it

bigzz786786 05-07-2012 12:07 AM

^hmm true, i guess i'll go refund the extended warranty and save 130

jlo mein 05-09-2012 10:43 AM

I'm looking to get a device that can:

-web browse with Flash, very little lag
-download torrents
-play 720P .mkv videos
-create/edit/view Word docs, excel, ppt

Can the original TF101 Transformer do this reasonably well, especially fast web browsing? I've read that 720P mkv videos are a stretch even on the Prime, and reencoding video is suggested.

Pricing them out with docks, I can get:
TF101 (used) $375
TF300 $550
Prime $650

bigzz786786 05-09-2012 10:51 AM

i would go for the tf300 then. since your looking for fast web browsing and good wfi connectivity. plus you still get the higher resolution screen and quadcore with tegra 3 compared to the tf101. and i think the tf300 has a usb3.0 port

just a little update: i went to staples to order my prime on sunday the 6th. the prime is "in stock" but in toronto. so my manager is gonna email asus to send one straight to our store (should be this week!). the docking station, isn't on the website nor is it in stores because they are making room for the tf300 in stores and the docking station is harder to get then the tablet....BUT my manager told me he had a customer who bought the prime 32gb and the docking station and picked it up yesterday(may 5th) and actually returned in this morning (may 6th) because he wants to preorder the tf300 instead (the guy likes the blue colour). SO, i couldn't pass up on the docking station, (the prime tho, i want a 64gb version). since its open boxed, i got it for 25% off. but when i took a look at the docking staiton, the ports were never used(still had the rubber thingy) and the docking port was untouched. not a single scratch either.

!MiKrofT 05-09-2012 11:46 AM

^All 3 of the Asus tablets are the same resolution 1280x800

I would go for the TF300. You get a much faster tablet that's brand new for a bit more.

Editing office documents on any android tablet is not that good. It's passable but I wouldn't use it as a dedicated method.

Is it much faster though? I've searched a lot and there's very few real world use comparisons between the TF101 and TF201/TF300 in terms of speed and performance. Most articles post benchmark tests which mean nothing.

If there is actual noticeable difference in web browsing performance between the TF101 and TF300 then I would be happy to pay more.
