Boourns. Looks like official release date is Dec.22. Guess they don't need to worry about Xmas shopping since all preorders are pretty much sold out anyways.

TRDeol 12-07-2011 10:59 AM

If i wanted to get one of these to use as a laptop replacement for school, do you guys think that would be viable? I have a laptop right now but the battery life is gone and i just use it at home now for movies/gaming. As a university student, I figure it would be ideal to have this smaller tablet/keyboard dock to take around and type on.

Is it microsoft word compatible though?

So it wouldn't work well as a school only laptop replacement just to type notes/papers?

!MiKrofT 12-07-2011 12:30 PM

Yeah they changed the date yet once again. Still doubtful about getting them before xmas.

LuHua 12-09-2011 06:00 PM

Just got an email from NCIX; summary is that the worldwide shipments of the Transformer Prime are being delayed because the Wifi isn't working properly. Will most likely not be expected before Christmas. There's a $25 coupon code for anyone who preordered from NCIX for any other tablet that's in stock.

!MiKrofT 12-10-2011 01:08 AM

Yeah just saw this on RFD.. FTL!

Jayboogz 12-10-2011 02:33 AM

Boourns....

Dear XXXXXX,

On your recent visit to BestBuy.ca you pre-ordered the Asus Transformer Prime Tablet (Web ID: XXXXXXX). We’ve recently been informed by Asus that there are unexpected delays in receiving the products and as a result, are unable to ship them on the date originally planned. We’re sorry to be the bearer of this news; however, we will contact you as soon as we hear about the updated release date from Asus.

Please accept our e-certificate gift of $25 to use towards a future purchase with Best Buy. Your e-certificate code is:

XXXXXXXX

If you have any questions, or would like to cancel your order, please contact customer service at 1-866-237-8289.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to sending you the Asus tablet and keyboard when they’re ready to launch in Canada.

Sincerely,

BestBuy.ca

btw. Futureshop pre-orders should get the same deal too.

bigzz786786 12-14-2011 01:15 PM

at least they are giving you something for the trouble, 25 bucks can get you a sleeve for the tablet right?

!MiKrofT 12-14-2011 01:20 PM

I was hoping to get it this year. I tried applying the $25 to my preorder lol. Didn't work. I'll use it for the keyboard dock.

I was wondering about this too. I looked into it and seems like microsoft's skydrive web app system for their windows office products might be a viable alternative. If anyone can confirm whether it works on android browsers, that'll be great.

Taking notes should be no problem.

But most mobile word processor apps do not have a strong grammar checker like msword. Not does it hVe anyways to adjust margin or bibliography manager

Simplex123 12-19-2011 07:23 AM

Anyone order from TigerDirect.ca?
TigerDirect Canada now shipping the ASUS Transformer Prime, should arrive Wednesday | MobileSyrup.com

kkttsang 12-19-2011 10:46 AM

i want to get one in store but i guess i'll have to wait till jan.

!MiKrofT 12-19-2011 11:34 AM

Damn.. nothing from Bestbuy yet.

*edit* Apparently someone on XDA with a BestBuy Canada pre-order got shippnig notification today and he ordered on 11/23. Damn I ordered on 11/22 and didn't get any confirmation :(

BTW. Apparently all stock will be primarily sent to US customers and then priority to Canadian pre-orders.

From XDA:

Quote:

1) WiFi was identified as a potential issue on a number of pre-retail units that were sent out to reviewers. Reviewers complained about poor signal strength in a number of these units.

2) Asus agreed there was an issue but they needed to investigate the cause - Asus did not believe it was a design issue but rather a production issue. As a result, Asus pushed back the initial release dates out of an abundance of caution.

3) Asus confirmed internally last week it was in fact a production issue and not a design issue. The Prime has two WiFi antnennas and Asus discovered production issues on the line with respect to the physical connection of one of the antennas. This is why Asus has stated there are no issues with WiFi and no changes in plans to distribute to the US on 12/20.

4) Asus recalled all retail shipments for inspection of the antenna connections and correction if necessary.

5) Asus has reallocated all stock to its primary US partners to fulfill US pre-orders. As a result small US retailers and Canada have been notified there is a good chance of delay in getting them stock, however, pre-orders will be a priority and there will not be instances where US retailers have stock on shelves while Canadian pre-orders have not been filled.

6) There is a good chance some Canadian pre-orders will get filled on the 12/20 date as planned - at this point Asus does not know how many as it will depend on the ultimate takeup by its US partner pre-orders.

I was called my memoryexpress today. Apparently, they have one reserved for me. Let me know if you want to take it in my place. They said they'll only save it for 48 hours.
Oh available for pickup today or tomorrow (dec 20) So if you're waiting to get it for someone for christmas here's your chance.

!MiKrofT 12-20-2011 06:16 PM

FeistyBearH22a 12-21-2011 07:26 AM
