Don't count on the GPS. It'll pick up but probably not fast enough for navigation.

LuHua 02-03-2012 08:07 PM

Wifi works alright for all intents and purposes, speed is ok. My wired desktop gets 15-17Mbps down, TP is getting 12Mbps down around 2m away from the router (-30DBm) and drops down to 1.6Mbps 1 floor down and 20-odd meters away (-70DBm). So yea, range is nothing good, and it's not dual band so expect speeds to drop. Good enough for Youtube and the like though.

GPS signal: I left the damn thing on in my car, outside, on an overcast day. It locked on to 1 satellite -.- Just cross it off of the feature list, it's useless.

asian_XL 02-04-2012 06:52 AM

GPS is completely useless if you are surrounded by buildings especially. I hope someone will find out some simple way to mod and fix the antenna.

kkttsang 02-04-2012 05:46 PM

Picked one up today at NCIX... its doing its 8hr charge before first use..... cannot wait to play with it later.

KO7 02-08-2012 06:56 PM

Got mine from Futureshop today, still in its box while I finish up dinner. No keyboard dock available at that location though (Park Royal).

KO7 02-09-2012 01:36 PM

I feel silly for asking this, but how do I watch a video without my music stopping? Winamp or the default music player just stops whenever I open a video file.

My silly question. Why do you need to listen to music and watch video at the same time? Not sure if it's possible since each application needs dedicated access to the hardware.

I download and watch a ton of pro volleyball videos and don't need to listen to the Russian or Polish commentary and rather have music running. So it's not possible then? :( Thought it would be an easy "multi-task" for the hardware.

!MiKrofT 02-10-2012 10:39 PM

It is easy. However both programs are fighting for realtime access to the same hardware interfaces.

For example I can run my music player and run gps at the same time cause the gps doesn't need realtime access to the audio output. The video player should hog everything.

Anyone flash Virtuous now that the bootloader is unlocked?

!MiKrofT 02-24-2012 11:11 AM

Not yet. Waiting to see if they figure out a way to unlock the bootloader without sending the serial# to ASUS to void the warranty.

If nothing in a few months I'll unlock it.

dyan 03-30-2012 06:44 PM

Picked one up today.. playing with it now :fuckyea:

dyan 03-30-2012 09:23 PM

Where can you buy a dock locally? everywhere seems to be out of stock :S

asian_XL 03-31-2012 08:22 AM

^ call up ncix. If it's not the dock, I wouldn't consider buying the TP

roastpuff 03-31-2012 09:08 AM

A few London Drugs still have docks in stock. $149, same price as NCIX.

Kerrisdale 1, Surrey Guildford 2, Richmond (#3) 1, Burnaby 2, Georgia&Granville 4 (wtf lol), Delta Scott Road 2, etc.

seems to be in the same budget, and im debating which route should i go with

is there anything that you cant do on the prime but can be achieved on the small lap?

I'd say it really depends on what you're looking to do. Even though I just got my prime and I'm still waiting for the dock, the basics are there for both. I had a 13" laptop before and I would much prefer to carry the prime around opposed to that. Although the storage capabilities is greater on a laptop and it would be a bit faster, if gaming is not a requirement then the prime is definitely more useful as the battery life with the dock is around 16 hours.

bigzz786786 04-01-2012 11:08 AM

when it comes to storage, you COULD use a external hard drive, since it has usb ports

imagine if it was usb 3.0! that would be dope

but yeah, like bigbaddie said, if pc games are not a factor then you would probably enjoy the use of the prime

or you could wait for a windows 8 laptop

JKam 04-01-2012 11:26 AM

depends if you have a desktop/main laptop already.

If you plan on using the tablet for movies/comics/music, where do you plan on getting it from? (assuming you don't pay for it...)

I use my tablet in tandem with my laptop. I consume all my media on the tablet because it's more portable/better battery. I get all the media from the laptop.

DHP 1 04-01-2012 12:12 PM

I had an ipad2 before and sold it afterwards due to not use to the touch screen without a keypad. However i notice laptop tend to have over heating issues further down the road. It seems tablet dont really have this type of problem? COuld a tablet get virus too? WOuld that require a reformat?

Probably just looking for something tats easy to carry around, reliable....able to do most of the regular stuff. Browsing, watch movies etc etc nothing fancy

!MiKrofT 04-01-2012 12:13 PM

It's not a laptop replacement so if you need to do real work I would still opt for a laptop. You should also look at ultrabooks.

dyan 04-02-2012 11:26 AM

So i tried to dl files for school but it wont and in turn will give me a =-1. Its not just on school sites though.happenedto me on sites like file share where it would just stop halfway or something and giveme download failed.

Any help is appreciated. TIA

LuHua 04-02-2012 11:39 PM

Just a note, the metal strip above the charger port is VERY malleable, it bent down without me noticing and I bent it back into place with little effort. And, anyone else notice that theirs isn't perfectly flat? Mine looks a little convex.

if you use your laptop to encode video, programming or 3D graphic, then TP is definitely not a desktop replacement. It just takes so much effort and time, by the time it is done, you are already home.

Finding programs that fits my purpose is difficult, there are not many powerful all-in-one software like adobe, autocad, winavi, office, acdsee, music editting tools for android. I am glad there are some good apps for remote desktop and synology NAS, otherwise I would have already sold my TP for an ultrabook.

Yeah I don't use my Prime for any of those. It's mainly to surf the web, play games, email, basic tasks, etc.
