thank you sir you've been very helpful. i just wanted to hear from a revsceners experience. anyways.. i got it done. porting it tomorrow. |
You should see where you are if you are near any of the towers. Canadian Cellular Towers Map Koodo will offer much better data speed than Wind. Depending on your job and affliation there are some very good deals.. like Fed Gov workers get $60 for 6Gb? nearly the same for Health care workers etc. If you do Sk and Mb plans from BC do watch out.. they might start cracking down. sk and mb plan worked for me :) |

i've already got a line for my mom with wind but now i'm strongly considering going back myself. my moms line is actually my old one, i signed up with them back in 2012 and service was just to shotty for me to continue on. but now with the LTE network coming and these other changes along with the fact they have their holiday plan back, $39/month plus $5 off a month for BYOD. very very tempting. |
What's their network speed like in Van now? |
Latency is very low from all the places that I've tested so far - around 40-50ms. Before it used to be 250-300 meaning there was a huge delay before things started loading. Download speeds are a bit faster at around 5-7Mbps consistently,, but still not where I would like them around 10Mbps. Fine for normal usage, but social media still takes a bit of time to load. Will have to see what happens in Jan. |
Interesting, I'll have to look into wind after they've done their upgrades. $39 - $5 is very tempting |
It's probably worth trying out now. No SIM card fee, $39 activation plan, one month of service for free. As long as you pass the credit check, you pay nothing upfront. If it doesn't work, just go back to the store and they can close your account. |
^^ That sounds like you are opening a new line with a new number. But what if you want to transfer your existing number? Can that still be done after the first month's trial? |

The free month is your second bill. You pay for the first month of service. Wind found out the hard way after giving Mobilicity port-in customers six months of free service.. which a lot left after I'm sure. |
Oh, and another update. Seems like Shaw is getting in the wireless game. Shaw buying Wind Mobile for $1.6-billion - The Globe and Mail |
^ I'm even more tempted now... Lol |
any exp. with wind and iphone 6, (telus unlocked) buddy had iphone on wind..said pages dont load (slow), and imessage doesn't work properly. he has since switched.. looking for other exp.. |

Activates properly, but just keep in mind that you will be dinged for an international text (if your plan doesn't include it) when you first activate iMessage/Facetime since Wind doesn't have Apple servers yet. And with regards to the pages not loading, how long ago did he use Wind? The recent equipment change from Huawei to Nokia has made a very noticeable change in speeds and especially ping. Won't help if he lived in a shitty area though. |
The $39 dollar plan seems really good. Maybe I should open a new line with and wait it out till the upgrade is done? Currently using fido and I am very happy with the service. But since wind is updating their netowrk and with Shaw investing in them maybe is worth it now. Mostly I am around Burnaby (BCIT area), DT and Metro and sometimes richmond. But looking at the coverage some area is still wind's away zone..... |

"Mr. Shaw said as the wireless company improves its coverage and upgrades to LTE (fourth-generation), “I see pricing somewhat discounted, but probably closer to the incumbents as we go forward, which allows us to increase ARPU [average revenue per user]...." In other words, the new WIND under Shaw will be a PREMIUM brand, NOT a discounted brand, and will compete directly with Rogers, Bell and Telus cellular brand. I think it will be great for existing users (assuming that your plans will be grandfathered), but I don't anticipate any of the current Mobilicity/Chat-R users scrambling to jump on WIND. It will be an alternative to the premium brands that's for sure. Shaw to buy Wind Mobile for $1.6-billion - The Globe and Mail |

ended up calling fido..I've been with them for 10 years. Gave me $45 plan.. 2 gb data.and all else unlimited. -$5 for 6 months. So I got second line activated with them instead.. Plus another 10% off for having 2 lines. |

Not sure if the Rogers and Wind band swap happened yet but lately, my Wind signal is zero bar + roaming all the time at home. Used to be 3-4 bars. |

Most users report better reception and data speed from what I read. |
I've been getting 4 bars with wind at home in south van. In Richmond, connection is still very spotty; but I have no complaints anywhere in Vancouver. 4-2 bar signals throughout |

If anyone is looking to sign up, you get $10 off your bill for ten months for boxing day tomorrow. |
How's wind service in Langley/Surrey area? currently on Rogers for almost 10 years have that 6gb plan which they took away paying close to $80 but obviously want something cheaper! |

Better to get the $48 Koodo plan if you want something similar to that old Rogers 6GB without paying too much. EDIT: Speaking of Wind, did a Speedtest comparison between Telus and Wind yesterday around 8PM around Victoria Dr/E.37th Ave. Wind was around 13Mbps download but my Telus was hovering around 10! |
