I am on a plan that gives me Unlimited Local calling. 604 and 778 are local area codes.

DJ Milk 11-05-2013 10:17 PM

Actually 604 and 778 can also be area code for the rest of BC. 604 was the original area code for BC so there are lots of out of town phone numbers that are 604. 778 is being used in Kamloops and other cities in BC.

Taken from some website
Quote:

Area Code 778 History:

11/03/2001
Area code 778 was put into service. Area code 778 is an overlay of area codes 604 and 250. In 2008 the overlay pattern was expanded to cover all of area codes 604 and 250.

Area code 236 was put into service as an overlay of area codes 250, 604, and 778 on 06/01/2013 and mandatory 10 digit dialing is required.

Ten digit dialing (area code + seven digit number) is necessary in the 604/778/236 and 250/778/236 overlays because two different homes in the same geographic area can have the same seven digit phone number but each would have a different area code.<

Major cities or places in British Columbia within area code 778 include:

Area codes 250, 778 serve the larger communities of Campbell River, Cowichan Valley, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, Terrace, Victoria, Vernon, and Williams Lake, along with many smaller communities in the area code 250 and 778 service area. Area codes 604 and 778 serve southwestern British Columbia including the larger communities of Abbotsford, Aldergrove, Burnaby, Chilliwach, Langley, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Powell River, Richmond, Surry and Vancouver along with many smaller communities in southwestern British Columbia.
So maybe that person you were calling is from out of town and you didnt' know that

willystyle 11-05-2013 10:30 PM

I didn't know that person with a 778 number is a non-Metro Vancouver number, and WIND shouldn't expect their customers to ask (their caller) or need to worry that their local area code (778) runs the risk of being a non-local phone number. It's absurd. It's a straight up cash grab.

As far as I am concerned, 778 is a local Vancouver area code, and I shouldn't be ding for it. Whether it overlaps with other municipalities or not, it shouldn't be any of my concern.

DJ Milk 11-05-2013 10:45 PM

Then the issue is not with WIND or any other telephone carrier. You should complain to the people who assign these area codes.

I'm pretty confident that I wouldn't be charged with the Big 3.

but you would end up paying a lot more in the end.. granted they do have better networks...

TPMarko 11-06-2013 10:40 AM

doubt the big 3 wouldn't jump at the chance to charge you LD.

mr_chin 11-17-2013 06:48 PM

Will wind ever get LTE?

Graeme S 11-17-2013 07:45 PM

If they do, it'll be 700mhz most likely.

FerrariEnzo 11-18-2013 07:43 AM

lol if it doesnt get delayed.... AGAIN!

DanHibiki 11-19-2013 02:03 AM

Just switched over today from fido. Damn the data speed is slow lol

Question. The wind rep told me the 30 day cancellation notice with Fido doesn't apply when porting phone number over. Is he right about it of will fido still charge me?

FerrariEnzo 11-19-2013 10:44 AM

are you done with your contract?
If so, you need to port over near the end of your billing cycle to avoid charges for next month...
If fido still charged you (chances are high) then call them and tell them to piss off with their charges...

Wait until the bill in case you're just jumping the gun.

You'll likely have to email the CRTC because fido and rogers are bitches.

DanHibiki 11-19-2013 01:32 PM

I don't understand. If this is an illegal practice how do they get away with it?

Crap I think I'm fucked. Here's my story.

I called fido yesterday asking for retention to see what they can offer before I switch to wind and all their offers sucked. They told me about the 30 day cancellation but I said I would not cancel yet since I need to port my number.

I talked to the rep at Wind about it and he said if I port my number right now the 30 day cancellation does not apply. So I did.

Then I get home and read about this bullshit CCTS crap and have a feeling the rep at Wind misinformed me.

So since I didn't give Fido 30 day notice and ask to put a note on my account do I have zero case with CCTS?

How bad is Wind data speed compared to Fido? Like 2x or 3x worst?

DanHibiki 11-23-2013 08:13 PM

3x worse. I think

FerrariEnzo 11-23-2013 10:17 PM

Fido HSPA speeds are around 8-9Mb/s??
Wind HSPA speeds are around 1-3Mb/s

There is a Wind Mobile Speed test thread somehwere in here.. go search it up and you get can an idea of speeds at what area at the whatever time...

tomatogunk 11-24-2013 08:24 AM

I switched from Rogers. At first you can notice the difference between the data speeds but after a while you just get used to it

dub.g 11-24-2013 09:23 AM

yup thats how i felt too, going from LTE to H+ for me was definitely noticeable..

but even then it was never incredibly slow, loading up youtube videos on HQ was smooth

Acura604 11-28-2013 09:53 PM

Ported BACK to Rogers today after 2 months on WIND...some of my gripes:

- no phone number iMessage support on iPhone
- SMS picture messaging would strip out large photos
- WIND AWAY "dead zones" in otherwise WIND coverage areas meant the phone became a paper weight.
- hopped onto a Rogers Corporate Plan which gives me 3gigs data and unlimited everything else for $50 and no contract.

when I port out from fido to mobilicity I do exactly as what you describe.
next is, fido will charge you 1 month of service where you did not get service (because you already port to wind)
after that , just follow CCTS form , fill it in and send it.
wait .. then I get my money back...

Psykopathik 11-29-2013 07:53 AM

wind put an antenna a block away from my house :)
