Hardware-related. LTE Band 66 only became "mainstream" this year.

Just ported over to Public Mobile last night. Difference is night and day. I'm getting reception every fucking where on my route to work except for when I'm in the tunnel.

Groot 06-24-2017 01:48 PM

would getting a replacement sim card better my speeds on my s7 edge? I feel like the speeds have slowed down compared to before. I think I read from the thread a few members did the sim card change and it made a night and day difference? I'm getting tired of Freedom mobile lol

Yes, I along with my wife, two friends, and a coworker made the switch on over to public mobile and it's like I actually have a phone again. Freedom did buy more spectrums, but it's not available today. We didn't like how grandfathered plans couldn't use their new LTE network and overall bad reception. Public mobile using telus network is fantastic. Reception everywhere, $40/ month for 4gb, unlimited talk and text, caller ID, voice mail. If you go on their auto pay, it's an automatic $2 off every month, and if you keep referring friends it's another $1 off a month off each referral. You can technically bring down your bill to $0. Mines already down to $35/MO, but aside from cost savings, it's nice to be able to call 911 in elevators, underground parkades when I actually need to for an emergency. Freedom means freedom away from freedom mobile. Was with them for almost 5 years and never again. No point when you have great companies like these competing against freedom and price matching.

Simplex123 07-02-2017 05:28 PM

^You're definitely able to call 911 even if your provider does not have service. In fact, you don't need a sim card at all to call 911.

For those who missed out on the $40 for 4GB plan from Public Mobile last time. Promo's back.

anyone seen this?

https://www.freedommobile.ca/plans-and-devices/plans

basically its $50 for 10GB of LTE data, but from what i understand, there is no included talk time, its at $0.05/min for incoming OR outgoing? which really isnt much of an issue since most people dont use talk time much anyways.

but how is the coverage with freedom mobile now? and is their LTE bands still limiting to only certain few devices else its 3G?

6793026 10-19-2017 09:58 PM

I still do not like Freedom (i'm on it now), i want to move away cause when i'm in whistler, or even in Victoria, i get nothing. any suggestions?

I'd wait until they upgrade the new network in the Spring.

feels like network becomes even worse when the weather is shit.

When I was on Freedom, I got reception in Whistler but zero reception in the whole Vancouver Island.. couldn't stand the coverage anymore and switched to Public Mobile last month.

Razor Ramon HG 11-07-2017 12:31 PM

Freedom's network upgrade for the newly acquired LTE bands has been going smooth and it's been going to be complete by the end of the year. All grandfathered plans were given LTE today, so that means all devices that currently don't have Band 66 LTE will do so soon.

I'm 99% certain that iPhones are also going to be launched by the end of the year.

Future is looking bright.

Shaw undercuts Big Three on iPhone pricing, Freedom Mobile to sell iPhone X for $0 upfront | Financial Post

Shaw Communications Inc.’s Freedom Mobile will shake up the way wireless carriers have traditionally sold Apple Inc. devices in Canada when it starts selling iPhones for the first time on Friday.

Freedom Mobile will sell the latest slate of iPhones, including the 8, 8 Plus and X, for $0 upfront on two-year contracts, Shaw announced in a news release Wednesday.

This pricing strategy is a sharp departure from the standard followed by the Big Three carriers Rogers Communications Inc., BCE Inc. and Telus Corp., none of which offer the newest, most expensive iPhones for zero down just months after a release.

As of Tuesday, the Big Three were selling the flagship iPhone X starting at $599 upfront plus $95 per month on two-year plans. That price only includes 1 GB of data, according to the carriers’ websites. The iPhone 8 and 8+ start at $229 and $359 on the same rate plans.

Freedom’s iPhone plans, on the other hand, include 10 GB of data starting at $65 per month for the iPhone 8 up to $110 per month for the iPhone X. To get that much data and a new iPhone from the Big Three, customers must pay at least $155 per month plus the upfront cost.

Any Shaw or Freedom Mobile employees got any of the 35% off codes they want to share? I would switch to Freedom if I can get one of those codes :D

:fullofwin: same

can we get the code from shaw for being a shaw customer?

DJ Milk 12-19-2017 12:28 AM

I got a code about 3 weeks ago so I switched already. Had to think about it for a week because I didn't want one of their current market plans. Finally found a store that can sign me up on this promo plan that was available in the summer. Can't go wrong for $32.50/month :joy:

Which store was this? Can i just walk in and ask for the same plan with discount code applied?

racerman88 12-19-2017 11:01 AM

Can anyone walk in and ask for this plan if they have the discount code?

DJ Milk 12-19-2017 12:23 PM

You can’t get this plan unless you go to one of the farthest store along a route to the USA border. I called most stores near me and none of them can give this plan. So I asked Freedom Mobile Support on Twitter and they told me to go to either the Cloverdale store or the Abbotsford store. If you have your own code, they will apply it on the plan when you sign up.

racerman88 12-19-2017 12:31 PM

So would you be willing to share the discount code with us?

DJ Milk 12-19-2017 01:52 PM

I should clarified that each discount code is unique and are a one time use only. I asked so many people before finally getting one.

FerrariEnzo 12-19-2017 02:10 PM

Whats the diff between yours and the $50 10gb one?

DJ Milk 12-19-2017 02:19 PM

The current $50 promo 10gb has only 500mb roaming data in Canada only. The one I got has 1GB roaming data in Canada and USA but I do lose 2GB of local data.

FerrariEnzo 12-19-2017 02:34 PM

hows the reception? data speed?
