ive been with Wind since they launched in metro vancouver area... there was 3 months when I ported to mobi but ported to wind..
the coverage from Wind is enough for me, as i dont travel too much.. I dont really call or txt a whole lot either... so the savings is great for me...
if you call/txt a lot, i wouldnt suggest either wind/mobi...

How much better and stronger is Wind's signal compared to Mobilicity, I want to gauge if it's worth the hassle of switching carriers again, thanks guys |
i've been on wind since end of december when they had the holiday miracle plan. i can honestly say i'm very pleased with the reception. i've mentioned it a lot to those who ask about the reception on this forum, but i've only had lost reception in areas where i dont go to alot, or where its bout to lose reception.
ie. skytrain through granville and burrard, grouse mountain (during the hike) odd parts of gas town i may lose reception briefly, in my underground parkade.
my reception isn't the strongest at the moment at my new home near royal oak, but i already knew that was going to happen when the rep showed me a map of the wind towers and told me this area would be iffy but i still get calls and data still works.
i moved from fido to wind, and couldn't be happier, so as far as going from mobilicity to wind goes, from what i've heard about mobilicity, you definitely wont regret that switch. thats just my opinion and from my experiences tho

if you call/txt a lot, i wouldnt suggest either wind/mobi... | actually, if you txt and call alot, i would suggest wind/mobi depending on the area that you'll be doing that in. as most ppl on mobi will point out, reception sucks in specific scenarios. if you're on the big 3, most of the time you have to pay a premium for unlimited text, or you only have 2500 txt, and say.. 200 daytimes minutes and unlimited after 7, unless again, you have the 5pm add on which costs money if you didn't get credits for it. depends on the user and their preferences but if you're a heavy talker/texter in the greater van area, wind (and possibly mobi) is enough

not true, if people rely on their phones, Wind/Mobi isnt the way... there are times when even I would loose signal or data... I dont mind coz i dont use it alot.. My usage would fit right into robelus cheap plans but its still cost me more then on Wind..
The savings I get from wind justifies my usage...
People dont mind paying the premium for phones coz they cant live without their phone! those are the customers robelus loves.

I've been wind for a year, and have noticed a few places where I can't get signal.
The very bottom of metro in the hallway heading towards T&T
The very bottom of Harbour centre Downtown (but oddly only on the west side of the food court)
The very bottom corner near timmy's inside waterfront centre
The middle of stanley park as driving/bussing through
The top of the grouse skyride (and above)
Beyond that, I get a very strong, very consistent signal. Oh, except within a 3 block radius of hastings and main where my data slows to a crawl. But that's not a big deal.

I Too, am a very satisfied Wind Customer. Rarely have a dropped signal, besides the obvious places that are hard to get, even with Rogers. Ive been to Calgary and Missisauga this year, both within the Wind HOME areas. Perfect. The tethering is the best part of it all.

Mobilicity has been pissing me off lately, not sure if it's the network or my phone. I don't get text messages until I restart my phone(which reconnects to the network) and calls don't go through at all.
From replies above, it seems that reception is fairly good. Mobilicity reception dies when I go into large buildings or even a small building like at school.
Does anyone have data on Wind? How is it?
I'm thinking of getting the Huawei Ascend P1, not sure why I seem to like it tho lol. Other suggestions? Also thinking of S3, POSSIBLY blackberry but most likely not.
Forgive me for being stupid, but I'm not 100% sure how the Wind Tab works. Say I get the $29 plan, I get the Huawei on a Wind Tab and 2 years in I want to switch to another provider, what do I have to do then? Pay off the rest of the phone?

I've got data, and I've mentioned all my deadspots. Are there any places you're specifically worried about? My recommendation: Gnex. I love it. And if you get one from mobilicity it should be $300 starting tomorrow, no contract.
Windtab works like so: you get a discount on the phone. 10% of your phone bill is put towards that discount per month (so you get $200 discount, you get $3 off per month). After 3 years, they forgive the discount. If you decide to leave after 2 years, you pay $200 less $72 (the two years @ $3).

and like graeme mentioned, Galaxy Nexus.
In regards to windtab, pretty much everything he said, and after 2 years you get the option of switching to a new phone i believe. could be wrong about that

I don't quite like the Galaxy Nexus for some reason, it just doesn't appeal to me because it feels sorta different. My friend has one and I've used it for a bit and it wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it would be.
So yeah thanks for clearing up the Wind Tab stuff. If the reception and everything is good I think I'll probably stick with Wind for 3 years and try to sell my Panache to cover some of the initial $200 I have to pay.

i don't recall anything with data but i got unlimited data when i signed up so it didn't really matter much for the refund. maybe its pro-rated for 100mb?
