I'm sure you know how annoying AliExpress is -- their prices constantly change (even if it is only by a little), and their search function almost always returns different results every single time. So half the time, I can't even find the same item that I have found the last time I did a search.

Scrolling through Memory Express / Canada Computers / Amazon, most seem to go for $18 - $40-ish, depending on the brand / storage capacity. I don't really care how big the drive is since even just 32GB would be bigger than anything I could ever need it for. But even at $20, it is far too much $$$ than what I am willing to pay for. (I am really more used to the dead slow $5 for 32GB stuff since that's all I really need.)

And then I thought of AliExpress. I would never trust that a flash drive being advertised there as a Sony flash drive to actually be a Sony flash drive. But at anywhere between $0.99 for a 32GB drive, to $2 for 2TB, do I even care what brand they are, or whether they'd be DOA? For the same amount of money that I would be spending to buy from ME/CC/AMZN, I can buy 10 knock off drives from AliExpress. At least 1 of them has gotta work, right?

And FWIW, as a joke, I bought 2 generic branded TF cards (ie. micro SD cards) from AliExpress during the Black Friday sales for dirt cheap -- probably something like $2 - $3 per card. They were made in Shzenshen and branded under some Shzenshen technology company. They were also significantly faster (ie. higher data transfer speed) than the few brand name low-end cards that I already had.

Personally, I find all this a little ironic. But it is what it is, and I am not going to deny factual truths.

Do you not have a USB A to C adapter? I have like 3 of them. I can drop one off.

Now that you mentioned it, I probably have one or two lying around somewhere! It just never crossed my mind bcos none of my home computers uses USB C. Thanks for the reminder!

Every guy has a box or drawer of random trinkets I'm sure you'll discover you have multiple USB A > C adaptors laying around lol

My wife is disgusted at my apparent hoarding of "random junk".

But every every month: "help! this doesn't plug into that", or "i broke this... now what?". I fix her problem and not even a thank-you.

My conversation goes a little farther than that.

"See my hoarding fixed your problem."
"But how long did you have to hold on to that piece?"

Colloquially, yes, I agree that is it DLLM. Formally, however, it is DNLM. I did not believe it.

Take the Chinese character and put it into Google Translate. You will see the pronunciation as "nei" as well. Select "Cantonese" and play the audio. My mind was blown.

That feels overly prescriptive.

If you're going to ask somebody to diu their lo mo, why constrain where they have to insert their lun? Plenty of valid options for them to pick from!!

bcrdukes 01-24-2026 02:06 PM

You’ve given this a lot of thought. :suspicious:
