Maybe it's a reflection on inflation vs discretionary income. Maybe when people are financially hurting, they don't spend on mooncakes.

Personally I've been less eager to buy mooncakes in the last couple of years because they've gotten kind of expensive.

I’m 40 and I’ve never bought a box of moon cakes in my life. My parents always have a bunch gifted to them and passed on to me.
My favourite are the lava yolks and winter melons ones but they never seem to make it my way. They’re good but not worth the money.

I'm really bad when it comes to traditions, stories, culture etc. One, I didn't grow up knowing these stories and why we celebrate x/y/z so these holidays mean absolutely nothing to me other than wasting money. Two, as a CBC I really didn't give a shit about learning it because I didn't understand the language growing up anyways. Three, as a kid I only care about the ungodly amount of unhealthy sweet shit I could stuff my face with and nothing more.
