back in the 90's there was a TV series/movies staring asians called "vanishing son". the 'villian' who was the main star's "brother" was the danny devito of the 2. he said something i could resonate with, something along the lines of being an outsider being CBC (or ABC in that case): "too chinese to be white, too white to be chinese" i.e. never accepted anywhere.

as a kid i'd remember the hongers treating CBC's like they're white, especially if you can't fluently read/write/speak canto. of course everyone else just sees you as chinese based on looks.

these days idgaf i just wish i can read a menu where ever i'm eating at :lol

spoon.ek9 10-08-2025 05:02 PM

I can read the menu if it's from a HK cafe lol. Otherwise it's spotty at best. In the eyes of hongers, I'll always be the white boy of the group and that's fine. I know I've improved my Canto a TON since highschool.

Around here, I hardly ever get treated like an "outsider" due to race. Sure, there were incidents in Calgary and maybe once or twice in Richmond but otherwise no such things happened to me other than being viewed as just another Canadian.

Badhobz 10-08-2025 07:26 PM

Pssshhh I don’t know you wanna be identified as a Guangdong bastard. It’s better to be exotic. Bitches dig that

I went to buy egg waffle at that Michelin egg waffle place in HK and they asked my wife if I was a movie star. My wife was like uhhh this fat guy ? No ! The ah mo was like lookkkg at me with this highly sus face…. Like Haven’t I seen you before on TVB or some shit ?

spoon.ek9 10-08-2025 09:40 PM

Actually, when I'm in HK it's super obvious to them I'm not a local lol. I get WAY more attention from girls out there compared to here. It's a bit of a story, not really frugal shopper related material :lol

EvoFire 10-08-2025 10:53 PM

I stand out in HK. Me and two other guys taking the MTR, we converse in a mix of canto and English, and we type on our phones in all English. The amount of "hey pick me" kind of vibe is very strong from chicks.

red kryptonite 10-08-2025 11:17 PM

i stand out too. i dont see it but people say i dont look chinese.
we're going back in march for 清明!
i remember the amount of attention i got from these girls and how easy it was in my 20s. sure didnt hurt having my local cousin/wingman randomly dropping "oh hes visiting from canada."

edit: now i wish the gf wasnt joining, but my parents invited her.

BIC_BAWS 10-08-2025 11:48 PM

Also idk what it is particularly about Asia but people are REALLY short. Like I'm 5'8 which isn't remarkably tall, but holy crap all the girls out there are literally shawties.

Badhobz 10-09-2025 05:59 AM

Mmmmm…. Yes. Thirsty bitches in Asia. That’s why 69stylez is banned from going there.
We don’t need more half breeds running around trying to figure out their identity.

Hahaha yes!! They’ve said if I’m not going to marry this bitch at least bring her along to meet the rest of the family.
This will be her first time going to china/asia, she’s going to be in for a culture shock. And she’s a halfer that’s looks more white than Chinese. She’s going to stand out like a sore thumb.

EvoFire 10-09-2025 03:32 PM

HK ppl have a hard on for mix girls. You better beware.

spoon.ek9 10-09-2025 03:37 PM

halfers are sometimes the hottest girls. other times, it's like... yeah, I won't go there :lol

This is the trap. The expectation is you marry her.

They're going to get dragged into Chow Tai Fook and he's going to be told to pick out a ring for her. Lol.

Both me & my son are 6'1" so it's easy to spot us in a crowded MTR station. When standing in the train car itself, we can see all the way down to the other end.

bcrdukes 10-09-2025 03:50 PM

I think my tea ceremony cushions will come in handy for him. :lol

spoon.ek9 10-09-2025 03:54 PM

man, if I ever met a halfer with english/australian accent who can speak canto I would have been in trouble. gg bank account.

Badhobz 10-09-2025 03:58 PM

AUSTRALIAN?!?!! no fucking way. yahhhh nahhhhhhhhhhh mate. after about a month, i wanted to murder everyone who talked to me. Its like they all had lock jaw or a stroke that left their face paralyzed.

I have a relative in HK who grew up in Sydney. I met her for the first time a number of years ago and I told her I understood nothing she said and preferred she speak to me in Cantonese. She called me a racist.

BIC_BAWS 10-09-2025 05:54 PM

Is she hot
