badhobzzz just want that shanghai jetta taxi feel

JDMDreams 12-09-2024 02:18 PM

German women is too expensive, I don't really think they have the $ to fix all the new product issues. I think they will run out of money before and they will lose their ass on each car produced. It's just not a high enough volume car. Wouldn't you rather but a used model x with the doors for $50000. Rather than live with VW jank. At least Tesla drives itself. Does VW still own Porsche? Or is it the other way around? They can steal some money from them.

Ze germans aren't very efficient imo - they're actually incredibly bureaucratic.

My friends are paying their utility bill with FAX!!!! in 2024 and a lot of places only take cash. The biggest bank JUST stopped accepting fax for certain things.

They're cooked

I got a photo-radar speeding ticket in Germany and instead of just getting the rental car company to pay the fine and bill me; a police officer has to review the ticket, mail me the ticket in canada and I have to pay it via wire transfer cause they dont take card. WTF?

AstulzerRZD 12-09-2024 07:58 PM

you'd think people that strict could run trains properly

but low key Deutsche Bahn being late is the 2nd thing that comes out of my mouth whenever I meet a German; always gets a belly laugh

Imo Golf R isn't interesting even w/ Ohlins, intake, short shift kit.

For YVR folk who know the owner, you'll also know why we drove Mach E GT PP and Ioniq 5N right after.
No regrets passing on a brand new DSG R for 41k CAD (9k discount) and he's bored with this modded 6MT too.

they're only dominated because they had cheap coal and cheap labour from newly capitalist eastern european countries;

they have neither now... just spineless politicians who would rather let the country die then run a slight deficit and get some investment going

I never got around to explaining it but.. this pretty much sums it up. It's fucking boring. What does the "R" mean?! NOTHING. The most exciting part of a DSG R is seeing how much I can get away with not doing, with the assistance of ACC/lane keep. And before you bandwagoners say "but oooh the manual is so much better" ... it's not.

I'd like to think the MK4 R32 actually means something... but I probably won't ever get to drive that car and I'll leave it as a "dream car" instead of a "don't meet your heros dream car"

whitev70r 12-09-2024 08:53 PM

Interesting ... now you got me thinking about jumping off the Golf R bandwagon.

BIC_BAWS 12-09-2024 08:55 PM

It's a fantastic daily.. but I have the same amount of fun if not more in a F10 MTechII 535i with xDrive.

Hell the 5er's definitely a lot more comfortable and with a cheap module, you get CarPlay/AA too lol. Way better bang for your buck.

Maintenance is basically equal since the only thing worse than BMW engineers is VW engineers lol.

AstulzerRZD 12-09-2024 09:15 PM

Has 0 soul - the Mach E and Ioniq 5N have more soul and better dynamics
Frankly I’m embarrassed for the R

Can’t tell if compliment or roast - low key sounds like you’re calling it about as fun as a fast German Camry bought my middle management that didn’t have the balls or dough to get an M car

There are valid criticisms for the R, but isn't it unfair to lump the R against new EVs that cost $15-25K+ more as it's significantly cheaper?

EvoFire 12-09-2024 09:42 PM

GTIs are boring. Drove my friend's GTI back to back with my MS3, the MS3 *gasp* has soul. Every action, every reaction of the MS3 felt like something. The GTI was a Corolla that went a little fast.

Then I test drove a GTI and a Golf R with a friend. The Golf R was even more boring.

Not sure what facetroll was so enamoured with a 7.5R, it has nothing going for it except the colours if you can find one.

JDMDreams 12-10-2024 12:59 AM

In before face troll joins the chat, I was just looking into the 16+ R's cuz they seem to be low $20s now. Still never driven one though, meanwhile type r is over $30?!:yuno:

Badhobz 12-10-2024 02:56 AM

Boring for you racing schmucks yes. But good for old geezers like me and it’s already quite spicy compared to what I’m used to (suspension is too stiff! Even in most comfort setting).

In all honesty I think if I had the CTR I’d probably never drive it. It would have beaten me up too much on those shitty downtown roads and much like this gti, I would not have extracted more than 10% of its capabilities driving to and from work. You guys are too hardcore

Once again factor in the price per month and it’s the cheapest spicy hatch on the road. Hell the SI civic is more money and that thing is a piece of shit.

bcrdukes 12-10-2024 05:46 AM

It's going to have a catastrophic failure just for you to keep your hands busy. :fuckyea:

Well the R in the Type R actually means something unlike the Golf R.

Badhobz gets a pass cause this is as sporty as he'll get coming from a SC430, ES and LC.

And tbh, the CTR... is good at everything except being a daily. No creature comforts. It IS a harsh ride. Comfort mode in the FK8 is still harsher than Sport in his GTI.

The only good thing about it for a daily is power, trunk space and good on gas (7-8l/100km mixed)

roastpuff 12-10-2024 07:34 AM

You guys are expecting the GTI/R to drive like a Miata or S2000...

It's a mildy spicy hatch, which is great at daily tasks and being your only car. It's competence is it's downfall.

It is precisely because it is not overly spicy that it sells so much more volume wise vs a CTR/GRC etc.

Lots more people buy Tabasco or Frank's Red Hot vs Da Bomb

trollface 12-10-2024 07:38 AM

You guys know it's a hot hatch...right? It's the best swiss army knife.

The GR-Rolla and Type R are purpose sports cars, but I would never DD a GR-Rolla. 60k for a 10k interior, 50k "Soul" and they even stole the heated seats off the Type R.

I drove the Type R, GR, and new Golf:

The new Golf is the best DD.
The GR>Type R>Golf for fun.

The Golf has always been the softy of the bunch, even when the Focus RS, Speed 3 was around.

omg, did you talk to my hitlerbox or something? this morning the friggin infotainment was going nuts again calling SOS and hanging up on them randomly.

I fixed it by hamfisting that touch pad by smashing it a few times with my fist. TAKE THAT HITLER!

anyways i got another service appointment booked, apparently this is quite a common problem with the mk8's.

p.s. I like how i started call him face troll and now everyone calls him face troll.

I think that's the difference between our mindset and yours which makes the golf R really great for a certain demographic.

I'm thinking can I fit in a lotus elise lmao

JDMDreams 12-10-2024 08:34 AM

^ the only good move you made was only leasing it lol, I wonder if the older r's have this many issues too, or were they ok since they were pre pandemic cars?

With how much this forum hyped up the Golf R, I was expecting ///M or Type R. This is about as spicy as a 35i product from BMW.

To VW/Audi's credit, the S products (not S-Line) is a LOT more spicy than BMW's 35i products - before BMW started doing M40i's. For the longest time I thought S4 = M3, not S4 = 35i since it was so incomparable.

I don't think RS has ever hyped up the Golf R (except maybe to trollface) - I think everyone has acknowledged that the Type R, and now the GRC, has more character/performance/soul whatever you want to call it. And no one in their right mind would call a Golf R similar to a M product or a Type R lol. Part of the obsession was with the limited edition Spektrum colours as well, I think.

I think the thing about the GTI/Golf R, and what I've personally said about it, is that it is the better daily car. Civic Si vs GTI, I think the GTI is the more practical car. Same with the GTI vs the Veloster N. It's sort of that great middle ground, if you only had one car and one parking spot for it.
