I swapped the water pump in the wifes Rav because it was sounding terrible. It was a pretty straightforward job, everything is accessible with normal tools, but it took over 4 hours because there's so many damn bolts. The motor mount was the most elaborate contraption I've ever seen, there's 4 brackets in addition to the 2 piece mount and something like 16 bolts and an upside down nut to remove it all. If I ever have to do it again I'm buying an electric ratchet. Oh and those spring clamp pliers because I spent ages fighting with that stupid thing on the rad hose.

On the plus side Toyota used a metal gasket so they're no messing around trying to scrape a bunch of old crap off. Just pull it off, slap on the new one, and go.

Why do they call it a water pump and not a coolant pump!

i dont know, but nobody calls it a coolant pump. Just like how come they don't call a battery a juice box?

Out of curiosity, where did you end up getting all of your parts? I recall you posted in the other thread.

Would you DIY this again?

On a separate note: I refilled the windshield washer fluid with Toyota OEM fluid in this sweltering heat dome. Car showed 41 degrees today.

I went with all Aisin parts from Rockauto. I'd DIY it again, it's a very straightforward job overall. The only tool I used that isn't just in your average socket set was a crowsfoot 14mm for the upside down nut because I couldn't find my wobble extension to zip it from underneath with my impact.

Is Rock Auto CAD? I thought they ship from murica? I've been avoiding buying things from murica since the tariffs.

Yes, they charge in CAD but convert the price from USD. The price you see is the price you pay.

I tried to buy from a Canadian company but nobody had what I needed. There were no surprise fees when the parts got here.

Also as an added surprise, because I remember bcrdukes and I mentioned this before too, the dealer was actually the cheapest option for coolant too. $24/jug which was the same as the cheap no-name stuff and half the price of the name brand one, go figure.

I do like using it to cross reference parts and compatibility and to cross-shop prices locally to where I am. It's a bit of a rabbit hole because you learn so much about different parts and manufacturers like OE vs. OEM vs. aftermarket vs. "Made in China" vs. Made in Japan etc.

Caveat: Not all parts made in China are bad.

Anytime you buy something, just google the 5% coupon code and grab one from any of those stupid coupon sites.

You enter it into the "How did you hear about us?" field at checkout

Yes. They were famous for their pitch on Dragon's Den.

I haven't used TDot Performance before because their prices are high. Alternatively, for coilovers, you can consider Garage 16 (Toronto-based) or for something local'ish in Richmond, try Essex Distributors. If you aren't in a rush, Essex Distributors has sales once in a while.

Rockauto typically won't have much high performance parts, mostly just daily driver type stuff. I bought my Bilstein B12 kit and I think that was almost as high as they went.

I'm sad I didn't bring over my RA magnets when I moved, and now I've only got one small row of them on my fridge.

^ very rarely I've been able to find some things by searching with the manufacturers part number. Sometimes they'll have a part but no fitment info so it doesn't show up in the regular listings.

Are their parts legit? Wtf is Famous Brand. Some stuff seems stupid cheap like $25 CAD for rotors and $4 wiper blades. I've never ordered from them before. It's like $350 CAD for a set of rotors and pads all around for model 3

Yes, their parts are legit*. Some of the parts with weirdo names are white labelled by the OEM or OE or a combination of closeout sales. I've purchased some bizarre brand names from them before and they installed and work just fine. Majority of my suspension on the Mini is some off-brand part that worked better than OE parts.

*Having said that, buyer beware: I based my purchasing decisions on RockAuto based on lowest price with zero fucks given, so what works for me may not work for you. So make sure you do your own due diligence.

Yes, this can be a bit annoying for their catalogue.

rockauto famous brand may be one of several brands they are no longer going to sell. I ordered once and the manufacturer no longer made the cv shaft. Another set of control arms I got the same part but one in plain packaging one in a regular box.

I recommend to do some research and buy the best part they sell. It's likely the most expensive one they offer but still cheaper than buying locally. I typically don't buy their famous brand, but there is always a time it makes sense.
