Finally, a player that publicly acknowledges hockey fans' frustration with the NHL lockout.

Bertuzzi shooting straight from the hip. His comments are spot on in terms of the growing apathy of fans towards this gong show:

Report: Bertuzzi losing hope that season can be saved

Mediator brought in to help with negotiations. Hopefully this helps move things along for both sides.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
NHL and NHLPA have agreed to allow U.S. federal mediators to get involved in the labor dispute.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Deputy Director Scot L. Beckenbaugh, Director of Mediation Services John Sweeney, and Commissioner Guy Serota to serve as the mediators.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Mediators work under umbrella of Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. Let's see if some "outside" perspective makes a difference.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Mediation is not binding. It's just an objective third party trying to help process get on track. Mediators were, IIRC, used in 2004-05.

You would think they would re-do the whole schedule to accommodate a shorter season.

Mike Oxbig 11-26-2012 02:02 PM

NBA didnt do that did they? Plus i dont think players would want to play too many back to back games and risk injuring themselves.

the NBA and the NHL are completely different sports. In the NHL you have a bunch of tough fuckers but in the NBA you have a bunch of winy bitches that get paid way too much

murd0c 11-26-2012 02:59 PM

Why the fail? I don't usually say anything but it's true. They get a little injury and star players miss games all the time when in the NHL the stars are playing through broken bones and pain all the time.

Ouch I broke a nail I need 3 days off...

As much as I agree with you, it's very different on how your body can handle the wear and tear. Say a sprain ankle. You can sort of play through it in your hockey boot. But for basketball, it's hard for you to run and jump and put pressure on it.

Some funny thing Iain MacIntyre tweeted is

Daniel Sedin on old enemy Dave Bolland's RT that he wanted Bettman dead: "I'm lucky I never received a death threat"

lol

not here...

murd0c 11-26-2012 03:30 PM

I take it you have never played ice hockey before and got a really bad sprain. Just think how quick they stop, turn and pressure on the ice. So using that as an example doesnt work at all.

RRxtar 11-26-2012 03:37 PM

Fingers crossed for a couple more weeks of lock out so they cancel the entire month of December so the WJr's are the bomb digity!

If the NHL wasn't looking bad enough:

"NHL mediator canned over Twitter controversy"

Quote:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Director George H.
Cohen has issued a follow-up statement today regarding a mediator assigned to the ongoing labor negotiations between the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players’ Association:

“Within one hour after I issued a press release announcing that further negotiations between the NHL and NHLPA would be conducted under the auspices of the FMCS, it has been called to my attention that there are issues involving an allegedly hacked Twitter account associated with Commissioner Guy Serota, one of the mediators I assigned. Accordingly, in order to immediately dispel any cloud on the mediation process, and without regard to the merits of the allegations, I have determined to take immediate action, namely to remove Commissioner Serota from this assignment.”

“There will be no further comment from the FMCS on this matter.”
His Twitter and Facebook posts aren't that bad really, but for someone in his position, he wasn't being smart.

Hondaracer 11-26-2012 08:16 PM

if NHL isnt back by the time the WJR's roll around, everyone is just gonna say fuck the NHL

Tim Budong 11-26-2012 09:08 PM

some of the best hockey i've seen is at the WJR. its just blood sweat and tears

AzNightmare 11-26-2012 10:42 PM

Doesn't matter if there's hockey or not.
I follow hockey cause I love hockey. I don't follow hockey just because I need something to fill that "follow a professional sport on tv" void.

I haven't been tempted or cared to watch anything else, and I don't see that changing any time. I have absolutely ZERO attachment to following any other sports, let alone if they even had a Vancouver team in that sport. Personally, I just see no real reason to be supporting a random city/team just because. (Given that I've been raised and born in Vancouver, I don't have any secondary city ties).

fixed

Ronin 11-26-2012 11:05 PM

I'm a casual Whitecaps and Lions fan but only because all my sports time is consumed by hockey and being a ridiculous Canucks fan. I find I have so much free time now there's no hockey to watch...but I'd trade it all to see f'n Burrows do his move, score and give us a bow and arrow right now, dammit. God, I haven't seen the Canucks in so long. I hadn't missed a game in the last three years. Shit, I miss some of the people I only see for Canucks games...i should give them a call.

Even now, it's a habit of mine to type #Canucks...like its the actual spelling with the hash tag in front. It's like an old heroin addict scratching at his arm sort of habit.

Urge to kill Gary Bettman rising...

DanHibiki 11-26-2012 11:09 PM

i sleep with my hockey stick. i stroke it every night.

SkinnyPupp 11-26-2012 11:15 PM

And BTW I am not saying it's a bad thing. Some people are fans of certain sports or teams, some are just homer fans... There's nothing wrong with that!

During the last lockout, I became a big Formula 1 fan, and an Alonso fan... This time it's NFL and the Ravens... I just think it's interesting to see what people do when their VERY FAVOURITE SPORT gets locked out... I personally will check out other sports, and others will not, or like Ronin just check out the other home teams.

But apparently we're not even supposed to be discussing this, so.. :rukidding:
