You'll be surprised how many people's passion for hockey disappears when the interest is anything outside of "Canucks" and to a lesser extent "Team Canada"

True hockey fans my ass.

And what's worse, it's usually these over zealous home-town sports fans that make the loudest, most cockiest fans of the fanbase.

DanHibiki 11-26-2012 11:25 PM

I play more NHL 13

7seven 11-27-2012 06:11 AM

For me it's always been NFL then NHL/CHL/AHL then NCAA Football then MMA then boxing, I could care less about MLB, NBA, CFL, soccer or golf and haven't found myself following/watching new sports or leagues I didn't care about before.

I still love NHL hockey and I will still return to it when it returns, however, during this labor dispute I'm just finding I'm not missing or craving the NHL to return like the last lockout. It's almost like the NHL has become that family member that keeps screwing up, you just come to expect them screwing up that it doesn't surprise you and you just grow indifferent and a general apathy, you still love them but you don't want to deal with their shit until they get their shit in order.

I've followed and watched the NFL the same amount as I always have, which is a lot, but during this NHL lockout I've found more time to watch and follow NCAA Football. When the NHL returns, great, but until then, life goes on.

Hondaracer 11-27-2012 06:30 AM

I've watched way more golf in my lifetime than NFL

Also it's pretty ignorant to say "x isn't a hockey fan, only a Canucks fan"

As an avid Canucks fan when the NHL is on I'm watching the majority of Canucks games, which in itself takes a tonne of time, and even with that said I still usually catch 15-20 other games during the season, it's a massive commitment to watch other NHL or even hockey on top of the commitment to the Canucks already

Majority of the people claiming that some fans are only Canuck fans, probably don't even play the sport lol

Ronin 11-27-2012 01:00 PM

I started watching NFL football lots more after I got HDTV...and football is a good enough reason to get HD.

I like watching the Patriots take people apart but I'm not a fan, really. I'm more of a bandwagon football fan. I don't have a team but I'll cheer for whatever everyone else is at the bar.

Great68 11-27-2012 01:53 PM

So you can't be a hockey fan if you're only interested in one team?

Some of you are so pretentious.

Spoon 11-27-2012 02:07 PM

Have enough problems finding the time to watch a Canucks game. These hockey fans you speak of must have no lives.

kristianhay 11-27-2012 03:20 PM

If anyone is itching for some hockey, Shaw did a pretty good mini-documentary series on the WHL finals last year. Gives you some good insight into how much heart and soul these kids put in. Rough seeing the losing team as I know the feeling (have lost in 3 provincial gold medal games) and I'm sure some of you guys do as well.

Enjoy!

Yeah it was tough losing ice604 playoffs in the shootout last shot, after giving up the tying goal with less than 30 seconds on the clock.

srs

Then life went on :)

I guess some people are really hard-pressed on the definition of Hockey vs Canucks (one team) fan.

I love the sport of hockey and all, and enjoy watching good clips of hockey highlights regardless of teams,
and few exceptions where I watch other teams during playoffs if a bunch of people are in here posting about
how intense the game is turning out.

But on my own will, I really don't make too much effort to watch games outside of Canucks, or team Canada olympics.
(This doesn't mean I'm not on top of things for stats or standings though.)

Doesn't mean I appreciate the sport any less than the next guy who wants to watch every thing hockey related.
Some people may want to watch everything just cause it's a good excuse to pull out the beer.

Fans come in all different forms as people have already pointed out.
Sounds silly to be debating who has a bigger power level of "fan-ship"

I don't even know what to say hahaha

So he was nearly 4 times over the legal limit, driving a car while wearing a teletubby's costume, provided police with his teammate, Brendan Smith's ID, police initially booked him as Brendan Smith..... hahahaha, just WTF

Police: Detroit Red Wings prospect was driving drunk while wearing purple Teletubby outfit

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A Detroit Red Wings prospect faces charges under Michigan's tough "super drunk" designation following a traffic stop during which police discovered him clad in a Teletubby costume.

According to a Grand Rapids police report obtained by MLive.com (Arrest report: Red Wings prospect Riley Sheahan was 'super drunk' in Teletubby costume | MLive.com ), Riley Sheahan twice registered a blood alcohol level of .30 per cent when tested in jail following his arrest on Oct. 29.

Police say the 20-year-old Grand Rapids Griffins centre from St. Catharines, Ontario, was wearing the costume of a purple Teletubby known as Tinky Winky during the stop.

The "super drunk" charge carries a penalty of 180 days in jail and possible deportation.

Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill says Sheahan is "getting help right now and will continue to get help."

Sheahan's next court hearing is scheduled for Dec. 13.

Well, Schneider's leaving town to play elsewhere for now...
Quote:

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider is the latest locked out National Hockey League player to head overseas.

According to the team's website, the 26-year-old will join HC Ambri Piotta of the Swiss league. Because Schneider is a dual US/Swiss citizen he doesn't count as an import.

Schneider is expected to suit up for his first practice with his new team on Thursday.

Sharing duties with Roberto Luongo last season, Schneider had a 20-8-1 record in 33 appearances with a 1.96 goals-against-average with a .937 save percentage.

Just after the season ended, Schneider signed a three-year, $12 million deal.

Schneider was drafted by the Canucks in the first round (26th overall) in the 2004 Draft.

Forbes says Canucks worth $342 million | Vancouver Sun

According to Forbes magazine, the Nucks are worth $342M but that is only 7th in the NHL. The Leafs are worth over $1Billion.

According to Forbes, the #Leafs are worth more than the Preds, Canes, Islanders, Jackets, Coyotes & Blues combined.

Should've relocated the Coyotes, Bettman...should've relocated them

Mike Oxbig 11-28-2012 07:19 PM

The last hockey news i heard was the NHL still trying to fight their way to have the coyotes stay in the desert :fuckthatshit:

The lease was just signed today. So I don't think that's a likely outcome.

Josh Harding of the Wild diagnosed with MS. Sad news.

kristianhay 11-28-2012 08:51 PM

^ So sad. He hopes to continue his career though, hoping the best for him.

Quote:

Minnesota Wild Josh Harding has announced that he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, but that he hopes to continue his playing career.

"I had a couple days where I felt bad for myself, but no more," Harding told the Minnesota Star Tribune's Michael Russo. "There's things in life that happen. Sometimes you can't explain it. You deal with it."

Russo outines the symptoms that Harding will be forced to battle through, including problems with balance, fatigue and blurred vision.

"I don't want people treating me different, I don't want people feeling bad for me, I don't want people moping around. I want this to be a story where when we look back, it was a happy story."

Harding agreed to a three-year, $5.7 million contract in the summer, keeping him with Wild.

Harding appeared in 34 games last season, finishing with a 13-12-4 record, a .917 save percentage and a 2.62 goals-against average.

But noooooo...Bettman didn't want to admit he was wrong about hockey in America so instead we have this fucking lockout.
