not necessarily a bad pick up. sestito can hit, fight, and maybe even score goals. he scored 40 goals in the OHL, and i'm sure he got picked up because volpatti is gone.

Well, they didn't specifically waive Volpatti - they wanted to move him to the farm, which required clearing waivers. It's kind of a no-win if you need to open a roster spot - you either keep him in the bigs and don't free that spot for someone else, or you risk him being claimed.

Obvs the Flames understand that 6.5M is not what ROR is worth, even next year, but they had to find a way to make the contract toxic enough to discourage Colorado from matching (after this contract ends, ROR's qualifying offer for next contract would be 6M), like how Philly structured Weber's offer sheet as 26M guaranteed salary in the first 12 months to screw the Preds. Or maybe the Flames didn't understand that based on this:

Too bad Avs matched, would've been hilarious to see Flames lose a 1st and 3rd round pick to Colorado, then O'Reilly to Columbus on waivers and the Flames be left with nothing haha. Feaster would have been fired haha
