Are newbs welcome to these events? And when I say newbs, I mean super newb

Dragon-88 05-10-2016 07:41 AM

If you're super noob, I'd suggest hitting up the pitt meadows track days first.. Split up into different riding levels, really helps with getting to know your bike, lots of room for errors.

Also its cheaper than a track day. So if you're hooked, then hit up a real track day.

bananana 05-10-2016 12:59 PM

+1 for Pitt Meadows. Also check out 2fast track day school & if you have $$ to blow, California Superbike School. The TSS trackday in particular was for advanced riders only.

kr4l 05-10-2016 01:40 PM

Thanks, will look into Pitt meadows

Rs special? My girlfriend and I would like to do a beginner lapping day to learn how to handle our bikes closer to the limit (of our ability)

Geist 05-10-2016 05:56 PM

if anyone has room on a trailer, I might throw them a few bucks if they are going to pitt meadows or mission anytime soon

Working on it. Stay tuned

I'll be at the Pitt Meadows track day for my first time on a closed course. Hope to put some faces to names/users :)

In the past month I've had new tires put on at Modern. Still had a bit of life left in them with the bike sitting a little over 10k, but decided to get rid of the stock IRCs sooner than later. At the same time, Spero over at Modern stiffened up my rear sag on my suspension. The combination of the two really brought some new life to my bike :lol

Did my brakes & fluids on my 300. Managed to score some leathers for cheap too!!

Geist 05-11-2016 08:21 AM

I got rid of my stock tires around 4k km and stiffened the suspension myself, I can vouch for the difference it makes. So much more responsive now.

DKaz 05-11-2016 11:24 AM

I'd love to do a track day once I get a bike again.

Dragon-88 05-12-2016 07:45 AM

Those who have gone to Pitt Meadows track day, How many bikers there have aftermarket exhausts and have a problem with noise level? What solutions do they come up with on site? My Akra pipe on the Grom might be loud and I'm just looking for advice before attending a session.

320icar 05-12-2016 07:47 AM

No louder than 88db at 50 feet away. That's like stock pipe noise levels....

Have you done a track day at Pitt Meadows? Any concerns?

double0seven 05-15-2016 09:41 PM

Anyone have any suggestions on a reliable older bike for myself?

Looking to buy an older collector to store at my moms on the island. I need some wheels on that side when I have the Datsun under the knife. I'm really digging the '70's classics right now. Not only are they fairly cheap, but I love the looks. Hoping to keep things OEM to get Collectors plates. Anything to aim for, any type to stay away from?

The small CB's, and the first gen Goldwing's draw my attention (Never thought i'd like a Goldwing, but that first gen is great when stripped to the bones).

I owned a SV650 for many years. The "sport" bike was fun, but I got bored. Looking for something decently reliable that I can tinker with and get me from A to B, including some highway time. Number 1 priority is cost. Number 2/3 are split between looks and reliability.

I know most of you guys are big bike riders, but this May long weekend is The Vapours Scooter Club hosted Victoria Day Weekend Rally. We tend to get some big bikes that show up, but would love to see some of your smaller cc bikes if you got them. This will be my 3rd year in a row going. I've always had a blast, Victoria has some awesome roads with no lights or stop signs. Even our friends from Seattle (Soldiers of Destiny Scooter Club) comes up and joins us for the rally!!

Honda CB 550F/750F 69-78 SOHC, CB 750F/L 79-81 DOHC, CB 900F 79-81, CB 350F/400F 72-77.
Kawasaki KZ 650 76-83, Z900 "Zephyr" 72-76, 750 H2 Triple (Two-Stroke, Fastest bike of the era but pricey) 68-76
Yamaha RD350 73-75 (Two-Stroke), RD400 76-80 (Two-Stroke), XS650 68-79
Suzuki GT550 72-77 (Two Stroke), GT750 (Two-Stroke Triple) 71-77

The Honda SOHC 750s (69-78) have the best aftermarket support and are the most reliable. Next are the Kawa KZs. All the two-strokes are faster than the 4-Cyls but have a lot more maintenance things. The Kawa Zephyr and the H2 are the prettiest and fastest bikes in the bunch but are also the priciest.

If I were to get another 70's era bike to restore and run completely stock, I'd be looking at a CB900, Zephyr or a H2 (if one could even be found).

Also, if you're interested in building the bike from scratch I do have a somewhat cut up '77 KZ650 with a rebuilt motor sitting in my shed that I'd be willing to let go for very cheap to an RS member.

Thanks for the suggestions, ill keep an eye out for those in particular. If I had an actual shop to work out of, i'd totally be down for a frame off resto. Unfortunately i'm going to have to find a bike which is already done for this purchase.

bananana 05-17-2016 11:56 PM

Oh I forget. Add these to the list:

BMW R90/100 and K75/100 Series. Very Bulletproof.

Moto Guzzi 850 Lemans

Avoid anything else British or Italian.

hud 91gt 05-19-2016 08:48 AM

That's a relief. The old BMW's are my #1
