How do u guys feel about paying $4400 for a used R3 with 3-5k km. When its about 5k new.

save on taxes and all new bike fees such as PDI, documentation (which is BS but it happens. I've always questioned to as to why I have to pay for paperwork fees if the dealer requires to do it in order to sell to me legally, it's part of the job)

This is a question you have to ask yourself.

a) do you mind a slightly used bike if everything checks out fine or

b) a completely new bike out of the crate as well as all associated fees that comes with a new vehicle purchase experience.

a 5k new bike will eventually become almost 7k. fyi.

I think they use either their second level or basement for winter bike storage. I remember seeing them hoist bikes up to the second floor years ago. But best to call and get the details yourself if interested. Good luck.

New bikes also usually encounter first service which I believe is a whole bunch of inspections and a oil change. I think if its done at a dealer can cost up to $400 bucks.

New bike warranty is only 1 year. Didn't know that at first lol thought it was like cars minimum at least 3 years.

I think Yamaha started offering 5 year powertrain here in Canada and Suzuki also offers it

$5k MSRP = $6600~ off the lot. You're saving $2200 (30%). Id say that's worth it. Another nice thing is the bike won't depreciate much from there.

Isn't there taxes on used bikes like cars?

12% GST like normal. Mostly everyone declares slightly lower to combat the bullshit. New bikes off the lot have about $800 or so in extra fees before tax is calculated on top.

How does everyone store their bikes over winter? Do you just put it on stands, use a battery tender and fuel stabilizer?

on stands, fuel stabilizer, and i take my battery out of the bike and keep it in the house.... along with the bike. Although this year I think the bike will have to stay in the garage.

I'd ride throughout winter, I mean this is Vancouver and we only tend to have 2 full weeks of it anyway. Plenty of days that are still pretty damn warm. Hell, I even went riding with buddies on X-mas day. still if it's gonna sit, atleast throw some cardboard or scrap carpet under the tires if you don't have stands and pull the positive lead on the battery, give it a good day's charge before riding if sitting for more than 3 months.

Geist, do you pull the battery out of the bike as well?

Never had to, I try to ride all year round

I put mine on stands with a tender but I don't bother with stabilizer. I Just start the bike and let it run for a few minutes one a week. However this year since my bike's fucked it's either going out for a bit of work + winter storage or it's going to sit in my living room.

for winter (half) storage I do the usual on stands/carpet, battery tender. I also lube all the joints and clean the chain prior. Give it a nice wash and wax. I turn it over once per week just to keep the fluids flowing and not remain stagnant throughout the winter.

if the weather is nice, I take it out for a rip, even if it's cold but sunny. However, if the mercury drops down to below 6 degrees, it stays home. My sport touring tires are nearing end of its life so I rather not take a chance.

All I do is pull the battery put it on a tender until I'm ready to insure and I've never had an issue. Winter doesn't get cold enough or last long enough here to add fuel stabilizers and a like.

There is still time left in the riding season, won't be putting it away until November at the earliest, in the past I'd ride year round but I've turned into to much of a pussy.

I've heard in the past that starting your engine in that matter can create moisture in the engine leading to other problems? It's what i've heard, can anyone confirm?

quite possible, I haven't noticed much but I store my bike in a heated space with the usual stabilizer. I believe there are fuel driers mixed in there somewhere. I run it hot to a point the fan turns on, and water vapors disappear from the pipe.

good to know, thanks for bringing that up. Haven't really thought about it before. I shall investigate more.

edit: oh right. Engine. well, I change the oil out beginning of every season. Being sealed unit I would hope there will not be any corrosion from any possible excess water.

lol. I should be more worried about hydro locking then. eek. Lemme ask my techs on this issue.

well that was a quick answer.

water vapor in engine: negligible.

worry about fuel going bad first before that. oil in engine will protect from corrosion.
