not sure in Van since HQ is there, but in major malls in GTA, they will repair.. If you're willing to drop off, they will WASH your arcteryx for you... i cant wait for this season to be over and give him all my collection to wash.

Yeah, the store in Kits is set up to evaluate/repair. That's where I took in the jacket. If they can't fix it there, they send it in to the factory I guess.

I got on the jacket wash list this year, had a couple shells washed in the fall.

Always wear your bullshit clothes at a campfire, shit isn't a fashion show, expect that you'll leave the fire with some holes in your pants or jacket :lol

My GF had to learn that lesson last year wearing her newly purchased NF puffer :lol

I got a zeta shell down there with goretex pro for 150usd too.

Do they carry the exact same stuff as regular retail at the outlet?

Banana Republic has gotten sneaky with their shit. Their outlet products are not the same as the regular retail stuff. The fabric is terrible and the pants ripped after wearing them 3 times, and they wouldn't take them back either.

The Arcteryx outlets carry mostly out-of-season colors for their items, but quality-wise they're the same as retail. Size / color will be a hit or miss of course, but the warranty / aftersales support is the same.

I have the same experience with BR retail / outlet items and learned to just stock up on retail items when they run their steep discount sales which happens semi-regularly.

That's been the case with BR for years, maybe even decades now. Outlet shit is produced separately and made to "look" like their retail offerings. The Arc'teryx store in N.Van is legit though (or was last time I went a few years ago) it's just old season items.

I bought my Arc'teryx years ago at Atmosphere at a significant discount (remember when they actually had good shit?) Now SportChek/Atmosphere is just garbage and don't even carry premium brands anymore.

CBC did Market Place piece on this before. Does this apply to ALL stores and products probably not.

any international brands that have outlets all over the country/world are generally the ones making clothes specifically for those outlets at a lower cost/quality.

stores like arcteryx that as far as i know only have one outlet in existence, are just getting rid of their past seasons stock.

Hondaracer 01-07-2025 11:42 AM

Outlets have always been like that, either selling colors or lines no one wants, or it’s a completely different quality than the regular stores carry

yray 01-07-2025 01:18 PM

if your arcteryx jacket isn't made in canada, it ain't an arcteryx :troll:

unit 01-07-2025 01:44 PM

ive had my made in bangladesh atom lt for over 10 years now, wore it 100s if not over 1000 times. many countries, many hikes, even used it in SAR as a mid layer. not so much as a single hole in it or any obvious wear. less water resistant, and sleeves are a little less tight but all in all its been the best clothing purchase i've ever made in my life. doesn't matter where it's made, the quality level is still high. cant speak for the new ones but i don't really doubt that they are just as good.

Hondaracer 01-07-2025 01:46 PM

Yea I’d say they are worth the money even at that price point

For such thin shells they do an amazing job at temperature regulation. Just don’t want to burn them

Back to R/E I had a colleague go check out a brand new building at Cambie and King Ed today, new wood frame low rise rental building

2 bedroom unit with 1 parking spot renting for… 4300/month without utilities :lol

Badhobz 01-07-2025 03:38 PM

It's market rent bro and cambie street, West side yo

Badhobz 01-07-2025 04:28 PM

That isn't very meaningful nowadays. Considering the trash-ass kids they are putting out nowadays from the school system, you're better off sending these kids to a Siberian gulag, at least they'll learn a trade. Even the garbage universities around here are a joke. UBC or SFU. Give me a break, I'm sure Calcutta U is just as memorable on the world stage.

Go ask anyone in Europe or east asia what is the best school in Canada, and they'll be like uhhhhh.....

its like asking us whats the best school in Argentina. who gives a shit.

I recently caught up with a uni friend who's a prof now - the endless amount of student stupidity is mind boggling. Examples include: a student accusing my friend of marking exams wrong 'just cause', someone waiting outside an exam room not realizing everyone started writing the exam 1/2 hour ago, a student asking how expenses work in high-level accounting courses, and interpreting homework that's worth 4-5% of the course as 'not worth doing' because it's worth so little.

At least the top students are still solid, though the extremes are getting more polarizing.

I wonder if that's a result of a pivot in parenting style. Like back in the past, kids didn't get enough attention from their parents. Then those kids grew up and became helicopter parents, overcompensating for their issues growing up. Winding up micromanaging their kids in every aspect of their lives.

So when their kids wind up somewhere without direct parental supervision, they are helpless.

That's not new. Already had to deal with this stuff 15+ years ago as a TA.

-Student arguing for part marks on a multiple choice question
-Student brought his mom to argue with professor for more marks
-Student too slow in booking classes, was stuck with a morning class. Came to ask to switch. Threw a fit when she wasn't allowed cause the later courses were full.
-Student shows up for a tutorial. After getting grouped together for an in-class task, he "goes to the bathroom" and doesn't return until class is over, expecting the team to have done it already.
-For a group term project, student ghosts the team and no-shows for the rest of the semester. When prof fails him on the day of the final exam, he flips out at the prof.
-Student wrote an assignment using swear words. Though, this one was just a troll and I did find it funny.

As a freshly minted full-time student, I will reply back if I can add to this list. :accepted:

We've started to use the phrase, "Look with your eyes, not your mouth." more often when the kids are "looking" for things via, "Mom, where's my _____?"

Friend of mine was telling me about a parent at their kid's elementary school. 110% the mom in Turning Red, lurking behind trees to spy on their kid. Emailed the teachers/principal when she deemed another kid was playing too rough with her kid at lunch. School told her there was nothing wrong with what was going on. Later, the mom followed that kid home from school and yelled at the parents. She asked for a chair, so she could sit outside the classroom during school hours. They told her no.

That mom would totally Black Mirror "Arkangel" her kid if she could.

That’s $53,000 a year in rent before utilities for a wood frame low rise.
