It's a "(golf) resort community".

I think a lot of it is Vacation/retiree/secondary property. I only knew one person who owned a property there and it was his second house for when he was in the Victoria area.

I suppose it would be allright if you didn't have to commute anywhere, but if you had to get into the Colwood Crawl everyday, fuck that.

It had a pretty turbulent past with all sorts of lawsuits. I believe that the companies that own and operate it are currently under receivership.

How is your house only 3xxx sq if the lot is over 9000. It doesn't look like a 9000 sq lot

JDMDreams 12-17-2024 01:02 PM

Burial plots ain't cheap, and you can also flip them like presales??? Profit

As the last surviving child (though there are some step-grand kids involved I think) she's likely set to inherit the bulk of that house.

Both my parents and in-laws sit on clear title East Van homes and the in-laws recently asked my wife to help them find burial plots which got me making like:

They cost a fortune - cheapest ones are like $40k and they go up to $70k+. My wife found some on sale on FB/CL for $25k each but the views "weren't good" apparently. My wife wants to be buried next to her parents while I just want to be put into a wood chipper but she says she does't want a stranger next to her so I told her to "live" between her parents since she's always breaking up their fights anyways.

I know 5+ island guys with balling viet parents that bought 2-4 SFH that matched their son's DP. Buncha Nammers renting $1,300 in Vancouver while sitting on $1M equity on their future home.

Not to mention their parents house also sitting at $1.8's fully paid off.

Sell both and they'll have $2M in equity to toss around for a SFH in Van.

Wtf, burial plots are 40k+?

You gotta be some uber elite to be spending 40k just for a plot, or have have very poor financial life decisions

Cook me up, throw me into the ocean, good to go. 39k saved not including the rest of the bullshit

Or if your against it, throw me into the back of a uhaul, drive out to merrit, and pick your spot for free

JDMDreams 12-17-2024 06:59 PM

^^ yep $40k is like flat land, if you want like the private garden + little gate it's like $100k plus. The head stone is like $10k even an urn is $500. Big bidness

underscore 12-17-2024 07:47 PM

I just want my remains to be spread somewhere beautiful. I do not wish to be cremated.

yray 12-17-2024 08:36 PM

better yet, have no one claim your body

government takes care of it :troll:

Gumby 12-17-2024 08:43 PM

Wow, this talk about burial plots is fitting in the real estate thread. It also shows the aging demographics of RS users!

The people spending 40k on burial plots are the same ones cutting $200,000 cheques to the govt. because they don’t want to talk about their mortality and a succession plan.. ironically..

Mikoyan 12-17-2024 08:59 PM

I know a couple people who won't talk about or even get any form of life insurance because talking about it "makes it real."

Badhobz 12-17-2024 09:51 PM

I told ya donk. I ain’t gonna let big funeral get me.

Costco casket. Plz return after the ceremony and then just throw my corpse in a dumpster and set it on fire. Ideally right next to sim mayors house.

You can’t get me !!! I’m not apart of your system …. Man !!

If you don't want to be cremated, how does this work? Just chop your body up into little bits and pieces?

Well, if the beautiful outdoors is what he meant, you don't need to do any work. The animals help out like they did with Snow White.

Tibetan Sky Burial - Leave it in a mountain-top field and let the vultures take you away. :concentrate:

my grandpa bought them for 8k each.. mauybe for then it felt like 40k.
it ain't cheap.
I don't know if ANYONE here even thought of buying one. Please enlighten us.

I did go in for a job interview and it's a business to be had. I see 50/ 60 yr old maybe getting into the business and making money, but seeing it as less of a trend.

HECK, i can't even get anyone to go eat at family dinners... let alone visiting my grandpa at Burnaby to pay him respects.

Is it a dying business.. no pun intended.

It's an old joke, but it's often accompanied by a photo of a woodchipper.

In reality I told my wife just do whatever's cheapest.

6thGear. 12-18-2024 11:42 AM

We actually just laid my dad to rest a few months ago. Pine casket, cremation and urn burial into his plot service. Was over $10k. We chose the cheapest package as that was his wish. The plots my parents have, they bought it like 10 yrs ago out in S. Surrey, the site I believe is popular with Catholic Asians, was about $4k each. In retrospect, they looked at the Fraser view Cemetery where my grandparents are buried and it was roughly $20k a plot. This isn't a cheap service to pay for, they'll even charge you to view the body 1 last time by the hour. Ask if you want embalment for cremation (we declined as the body is kept in freezer anyways) etc. Plots are expensive, of course, it's a piece of land your laying in however, the upside is you can finance it which my parents did.
